I have purchased so many beautiful things from op shops like furniture , crystal and cutlery for a fraction of the price had I bought them new. I love and appreciate other people's treasures, makes me feel good to use something that is not new, especially in our throw away society, often they are much better quality as well .

Haha ... serial garden killer! I love your calm and upbeat personality. You are the prescription to a relaxing day! About a baking fail, it's more about my sister's fail. Years ago, she asked me why her cake in the oven wasn't rising. She said the thermometer hadn't worked in years and thought it was set for 350 degrees. When I looked, it was completely liquid as if she had just put it in the oven. She was hosting a party for her brother in law in an hour! When I asked how long it had been in the oven, she said "about 3 hours". Yikes! Turned out she didn't have oil for the recipe and substituted water! She had never baked a cake before so this was her first time. She sent her husband to the store to pick up a cake and he came home with another box of cake! She asked me to make the cake while she finished getting her house ready for the party. So I stopped my house chores and baked and frosted her cake. It came out looking delicious. Was it good? I wouldn't know because she didn't invite me to the party! We still laugh and joke about it.

For me, the hunt for those special little things is so much fun. Finding just the right piece is an exciting thing when decorating Your room is so pretty ! In my last home, I painted the living room walls 2 different colors, and stamped antique gold leaves on 2 of the walls. It was so pretty < I love it! I kept it up for 18 yrs then painted over it with bright white when it was time to sell the home. I always shop at the Thrift Store for cast offs.I bring them home, whitewash them,add florals etc that I pick up from Dollar Stores. If I don't like the way they turn out I can always paint again.Love your videos.

Hi Catherine, what great tips!👍💟 I like changing things for every season, but as you said, it can get so expensive and where would you store all these stuff, lol. So, for example, I purchased very good quality feather pillow inserts, and just make or if I am really lucky find pillow covers that suit my style or season. This way you don't end up with tons of cushions and no place to store them. I also have, what I call, core pieces, like vases, cloches, trays and lamps, that can be adjusted seasonally. You can purchase online interchangeable lamp shades that once rolled, fit in to a tube that it is easy to store, and hey presto, new lampshade every season. Tfs

Another lovely video Catherine. I love your bedroom and the chair in your hall is just like a chair I have in my bedroom I got off my granny and I love it. So funny at the end of the video you mentioned your brother being a mechanic and bringing in a bit of dirt. My husband is a mechanic and my home is just like your's my cottage is all pink flowery and shabby chic my hubbies not bothered by it. Him being a mechanic hasn't been a problem with my style except for my white pillow cases lol but I buy dear ones now and they stay white longer and is is to easy out stains. I do often laugh when I see my hubbie all wrapped in our floral bed linen against my pink floral wallpaper lol but would never let him choose decor he hasn't got and eye for colour but he is the man that has made my shabby chic cottage come to life as he has decorated and diyed it for me. He put in our bathroom complete with chandelier and redecorated and remodeled the whole cottage for me so I Swan in with all the interior design ideas and he brings them to life so we make a good pair lol. I have hand painted my beside cabinates too in pink chalk paint I mostly do the decoupage and painting projects on the furniture and hubbie does the rest ie wallpapering etc. Just love all your style keep the fab videos coming and any man would be lucky to have such a wonderful girl like you xx❤️
@@DaintyDiaries ahh my hubbie is a dirty mechanic too but his job now is less dirty as he works for the dva testing cars for mot and he also does the role of driving examiner taking people on there driving tests. So think that helps keep him a bit cleaner lol 😊 xx

My husband is not a careful person. I think he spills more than my grandchildren. He does not mean to, it just happens. I wanted a white chair in my pink and black bedroom, but I knew the chances of it staying clean were slim. A stain would make him feel bad and upset me, so I went with a wonderful antique wicker chair that had been painted black years ago and now it is all chippy paint with white showing through. I made washable cushion covers. I guess my point is, when decorating keep in mind the little things so they do not become big things. Oh, I also had my Livingroom furniture treated so any spill could be cleaned up easily. ;-)

"Use what you have." Absolutely! I have been looking for a shabby chic cream pot. I am trying to avoid matchy-matchy so I bought a cute sugar bowl but wanted a different cream pot. I have been looking online and at TJMaxx/Marshalls for 3 days! Today it hit me.....I have my GreatGrandmothers' cream pot she got as a wedding gift in 1898! I can now have grey or pink duvet covers pink and grey cusions, throws. It's you who got me going to Homesence love the shop. Nearly all my furniture is 2nd hand and I've up cycled everything. I've yet to do the bedroom bedside cabinets and I have oval mirrors above tgem which are waiting to be painted/sprayed. I have the same colour scheme/taste as you. One thing that our houses here in Cyprus don't usually has is wallpaper!
@@DaintyDiaries I'd love to put up some wallpaper and my landlord wouldn't mind a bit. The trouble is that here 1 roll is around €150 euros. I'm going to the UK very soon so I may try and buy some while I'm there, I'll need about 3 rolls. The second problem that I have is that I rent on of 6 houses and the landlord is in trouble with the bank who are looking to take the houses which is very unsettling. I think I'll be buying a caravan 😄
