Just came back from holiday to find 3 dead plants in my little pots. I need ideas of what to plant next in my patio pots for autumn/winter southfacing please. Thanks for your lovely video Catherine ❤
I have so much to do in the garden. I have a load of perennials I’ve grown from seeds. And some things to move because they just aren’t in the right place. I love autumn gardening ❤
After a busy day it was so lovely to spend some time with you in your garden dear Catherine. Your new plants look wonderful, I am sure they will give you, and the bees much joy . I have viburnums flowering at the moment, ( Spring here in OZ), I always look forward to their delicate scented flowers. I hope the garden continues to restore and heal you. The garden/nature has always comforted me in times of loss and sorrow. Thanks so much for sharing, I will venture outside myself now to potter a little, take care and many thanks for sharing💖💖
That Viburnum is fabulous Catherine. Have it too here in dublin. Grows really big but you can hack it back. And I use the flowers for, dare I say the 'C' word so early, natural Christmas displays on my mantlepiece. Am going to need to cut back my mini meadow soon. Just planted it last year and it had tonnes of lovely bees. Will miss it's glorious colour. And it's still feeding later 🐝 s. I visited kells bay garden in kerry with its giant tree ferns. Dinosaur land! Monty was there a few years ago too! Happy autumn and love your beautiful new semi shaded garden.
I'm so sorry for the loss of your Mother. I know it's not easy. I love the stuffed animals you made from your Mom's jacket. They're adorable. May you find your peace soon. Blessings to your Mother and may she rest in peace. 🙏❤
Your shady corner is quite delightful. You asked us to share what we have been doing ... I weeded a Hosta bed down the side of the house and added a white astilbe in front of a large rock. On the other side of the house, I planted two more astilbe, added 16 creeping thyme, along the edge and completed the bed with 1 echinacea, and 4 turtle weed.. I hope to also add daffodil bulbs between the plants within 4 weeks. Next to a small seating area, I planted 2 Russian sage ... I enjoy your gardening adventures and you encourage me to go for it. Thank you so much.
Well done for making yourself heard by the council :) looking forward to seeing how this corner looks and develops come springtime! I feel the garden is only « done » for the year after november, when (in France at least) we get the real cold days & nights and it’s time to put the spring bulbs in, trees on occasion, and prune, prune, prune! Although I might not wait to do that this year because the garden is maaassively overgrown after having been left to its own devices for a little bit too long (turns out it is tricky to find time to garden with a baby 😅). Happy Autumn!
Can't beat a freshly planted border ❤ I've lost so many plants this summer to black spot 😢 but this means I can start again with new ideas...every cloud!
Black spot is treatable, the spores can overwinter in your soil and reinfect new growth the following season with the spores splashing up with rain or watering. Air flow around the plant can help the plant not get reinfected. Mulching the ground around infected plants may help as well. Removing and not composting infected leaves also helps.
I am redoing a garden. I over planted and many died out. So digging some up and moving them but we are still in the 80s and 90s in my part of Georgia. Hopefully cooler weather is coming. I have learned so much from you about gardening, you always inspire me.❤
I had to cut back my long border at the rear of my bungalow it took a couple of hours but was so satisfying just like your garden clean up. You’ve had a very tough year so you can’t blame yourself for the neglect this year and I’m sure next year will be better, hopefully more sun less rain and grey skies . It was nice to see stone Blondie emerging from the jungle 😂❤️
It sounds like you had a productive and satisfying garden clean-up! I completely understand how therapeutic it can be, especially after a tough year. Thank you for your kind words - next year definitely holds more promise, with hopefully sunnier skies! And yes, stone Blondie is finally making her appearance from the jungle! 😂❤️ Wishing you a wonderful season ahead!
Oh Catherine I’m so very sorry for your loss. I lost both my parents 2 years ago 8 days apart. Grief and the loss of both our parents is truly life changing. Be gentle with yourself. Thinking of you. 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
I've learn so much from yourself regarding the garden. Looking forward to this planting season, buying bulbs and getting them in the ground. I have shrubs I'm intending to put in the ground, looking forward to doing that and also tidying up. Sending love and hugs from Sir Radley, (my black floofy Overlord), and myself. Take care of yourself Catherine, give Bàn and Beagh a hug from me. 😊😊😊
I’m so sorry for your loss. I love the bears that you’ve made from your mother’s coat. What great comfort they will bring. Take care of yourself during this difficult time.
Thanks for sharing this refresh, it looks great! I've just finished digging the last of my bearded iris-gave away hundreds to neighbors! Now I just need to replant mine. Then, soon enough, it will be time to dig dahlias...
My hostas need a weeding. Wild violets have invaded the bed. Oh but they are so pretty. So I need to find a way to contain them to just a section. I have been splitting the hostas and using them in areas that are sunny. they border by patio beds and suprisingly grow well, not as big but vibrant.
