I guess in 2554(?) they conceded all the branches into the Navy since it's a space force now. It kind of explains why they call everyone soldiers. It still doesn't make sense in modern context though, so I get what you mean. Soldiers are not marines, airmen, etc.

@Voltaic Fire IRL, no. A marine is a marine. It's the same with a airman and a sailor. A soldier is a person in the army. The marines are their own seperate organization and I think they fall under the navy, if anything.
