This is inspiring to me…I’m disabled by multiple autoimmune and neurological issues. I want to set up my first dirted, planted 10g tank to keep in my room, where I spend a lot of my time. Great video.

Do a 30 or 40 gal long and You will not be disappointed. It's a lot easier to handle and you can have a few plants.

@@billmeyer4773 I only have room for a 10 or 15…I’m still looking forward to it. Just have to finish picking our plant and sketching the layout. I’m getting neons rasboras, Pygmy corydoras, Bertie snails and one rabbit snail, just because they are so cute.

@Sharon I'm in a chair from autoimmune peripheral neuropathy & orthopedic issues and have several tanks Get at least a 20long or 29. tank. They're more stable . You can figure out the room for it. Trust me, you'll want more fish/snails.

@@alekkoomanoff7281 Thank you for your comment…my room is small and I’m bed bound but I’m determined. Hubby is also disabled so a friend is going to help. Hope to get done in the Spring. I had wanted to do a Sonoran Desert riparian tank, but had a fall and very bad flare so my hands are not able to make the trees. I’m going with a creek bed with lots of plants. I may try to get native US fish from Florida, where I lived as a child. I did keep all my research on the desert one so if my hands improve I might try to make one for hubby. I have neuropathy secondary to Sjogrens. It can be very annoying…sad to hear you have it too.

38:02 Small correction, lake tanganyika is a rift lake, formed by tectonic movements. :) It's close to the equator, so sizeable glaciers have not formed there for many millions of years. Otherwise, super cool video! ^^

18:37 yes, I prefer to let the water level decrease while they bulk up and then fill it back up and add something for decent flow and they always go nuts for a couple months

I wish I could have a huge aquarium! Right now, due to my apartment lease, the largest I can have is a 20 gallon. I do love my 20 gallon though 😊 I have some Cory’s and I have some of the Pygmy Cory’s too!

How does that gentleman clean all those tanks being disabled. Even I have trble reaching the bottom of my tanks being able bodied. I have to use a ladder.

I had a feeling my java moss slowly died off specifically because I removed the little internal filter in my deep substrate hybrid walstad tank. I only had it added to a no tech tank for bamboo shrimp so I thought, why not remove it when I lost my last shrimp. Then the huge balls of moss just started to slowly suffer and die off. Good to know David thinks it needs flow too. My random hypothesis is confirmed by someone else.😂✌️ This just randomly popped up in my feed and I have to say, I'm so jealous of the channel name! Awesome choice! Subbed.

I have an aquaclear 30 on my 26 gallon so pretty slow flow and my Singapore moss (what everyone calls java moss) is going nuts. Its taken over about 1/2 of the tank.

@@giftofthewild6665 this tank is heavily planted and everything else is fine without a filter, Crypts, Bacopa, hair grass, water sprite, everything's happy, just the moss that seems to need at least some flow.

@@laurabustos6560 hmm that's not been my experience. I've grown moss like a weed in a bowl with no filter. I think what moss most needs is cooler temperatures. My tank is unheated (and obviously the bowls were unheated). It grows fastest in winter when the tank temp hits 18 -19C and slows down in summer when it hits 25+ Is your tank heated? Maybe the moss needs the higher flow to bring more dissolved gasses to it if the temp is tropical (thus lower dissolved gasses)?
