One important thing to highlight is that Indara warned Sol twice about projecting onto others, both when he confused his own feelings with Torbin’s and then later when he confused what Osha wants with what he wants. Everyone says ofc they would stab Aniseya, but if Sol was doing the Jedi thing he could have noticed she did not have aggression in her heart. But Sol projected his fear and capacity for violence onto Mother Aniseya. If only he listened to Indara…..this also calls back to when Torbin was possessed. Indara remained calm while Sol was ready to fight

As a fan from 1977, I must add that there was backlash by the fans when Return of the Jedi came out. Fans were up in arms about the Ewoks and the death of Boba Fett. It was this backlash that caused George to move on from Star Wars. Thankfully he would change his mind and give us The Prequels, but again there was backlash against him. The big difference is that we were in the early days of social media. Of all the Star Wars projects (not including the novels and comics), the only one that I have issue with is Rise of Skywalker (not that anyone cares, but I feel that was a bad movie, there are rumors of a directors cut, and the lack of deleted scenes does support this), however as a fan I still find myself sucked into it whenever it’s on TV.

Thank you for your perspective. I saw return of the Jedi in the theaters as a young child but it wasn't till Episode one came out that I went back and read reviews and fan reactions for Episode 6. Parts of this fan base just loves this universe and lore too deeply to be objective or satisfied with everything that is written for the Star wars Universe. When I watch or read Star Wars content, in general, I view it through the lens of a comic book level of depth sophistication. By doing so, I keep my expectations for great writing lower, and thereby I'm rarely greatly disappointed.

I’m glad you showed that clip of George! That’s the bullet point I always pointed out to the current Disney haters and they said it doesn’t exist. Lucas pretty much quit Star Wars because of the “fanbros” because he couldn’t experiment as a filmmaker with his world. Disney is basically saying “hold my beer” - and I like it!

Indara was actually a great Jedi. In this situation, her only mistake may have been actually bending the rules at all.
@cultmecca
@cultmecca 3 месяца назад
Yes, and she only bent the rules because of her compassion for Osha. Osha had lost everything. All she had left was the dream of becoming a Jedi and Indara just wasn’t cruel enough to take that away from her too Can we also talk about how powerful of a Jedi Indara was? She is ultimately the one that killed every witch in the coven. It was out of necessity because she had to free Kelnacca’s mind from their influence but she used some kind of powerful technique to do that which killed all the witches connected to his mind, which was all of them
@abeautifuldayful
@abeautifuldayful 3 месяца назад
@@cultmecca Yes, all the ones in his mind, but not the mothers. Sol killed one mother witch, and the other one escaped. But she did seem to have the most power. I harken back to episode three, when Aniseya talked about power and who is allowed to use it. If Indara had that much power, she would also have more responsibility to make the best decisions. But she let her emotions take over and deferred to Sol instead of sticking to her guns and asking the council for guidance. After all, they didn't know enough about the coven to be sure the girls were in as much danger as Sol feared. In essence, she let his fear, but not enough facts, invade her ability to evaluate the situation. She also let her padawan out of her sight while listening to Sol. That was too careless. In hindsight, she may have had too much power. Should any Jedi or Force user have that much?

I think she also made the mistake of not being a little more compassionate and understanding with Torbin. She only made his anxieties worse as she gave no comfort or reassurance for weeks. I hate feeling aimless and would feel pretty lost as well if I didn't know why I was sent to do something for weeks. Him being homesick too could have used some compassion. It only blew up so hard in their face because he tried repressing that emotion so much it burst.

@@Dakarai_KnightWhich would make her teasing Sol about not having an apprentice ironic as she arguably wasn’t being the best teacher to him, or at least, her “company woman” status was at odds with his reasonable immaturity as a young person. Sol had the right idea about the coven being untrustworthy, as most of its members seemed to defy Aniseya’s will to allow Osha to leave, as they saw her more as a religious figure than a person and wouldn’t accept Osha didn’t want to stay with them because they feared how “women like her” (as in witches, the problem being that the witches are just regular Force-sensitives without access to Force ichor, the mist the witches keep manifesting when they use their powers) would be treated outside the borders of their facility, which ended up being rather fair to her all things considered, as the Jedi let her go when she “failed” to meet their standards and process her trauma the way they felt she should. It was only when Mae started rampaging that the Jedi targeted Osha, mistaking her for Mae. Mae’s actions dragged Osha into this mess that everyone else is paying for.

Yup. It's just like George Lucas wanted though. He wanted a mythos for planet Earth, something to inspire the youth as they enter adulthood. He probably had no idea how dangerous this idea could become. Fanatics take the lore and canon to another level and judge others against their understanding of this mythical story. Star Wars fandom is an another level than any other fandom in the histroy of cinema (or even books, like Lord of the Rings). Star Wars had become a subconsious religion and religion can be used for good and for bad. It's become a tool, unfortunately. I just try to enjoy the galaxy itself more than the story. It's helped me to love Star Wars through all it's ups and downs. The droids, the ships, the lightsabers. Give me a cute droid and a heartfelt personal fight to the death and I'm fucking good. All day baby. Enjoying The Acolyte so very very much. Sad that so many care more about the literal words on the page of their religious bible than the message that story is trying to tell.

I agree. The level of toxicity has become (for lack of a better word) "dark." And it seems reflective of what's happening in the US outside of fantasy films/TV these days. Suppose significant studios like Disney or Paramount with massive IPs begin to feel like they attempt to add a "different flavor" to familiar IPs. In that case, we will see a gluttonous amount of sameness in these popular shows and movies. TBH, it's already happening with a lot of loved properties.
@uadhlagash7280

That's not toxic, that's just passionate (Source: Henry Cavill, 2020) Calling every opinion that rubs you the wrong way toxic is also its own brand of toxicity. You know why SW is getting so much hate? It's because fans hate the deliberate and/or via incompetence destruction of a once great IP, and further, the incessant antagonistic marketing that falsely paints any criticism as some form of bigotry to smear your paying customer. Disney self-manufactured this situation.

I think one thing people might miss with how Lucas PT showed the Order is that there's a mixed attitude of 1) this is the way things are. The way things are works. There is no need to adapt the way things are for the individual, and 2) The way things are done can be interpreted. You see this clash with the Council and the attitude towards Jinn. It's entirely what Obi's "if you'd only listen to the council" comment was about. The Jedi path is individual, but you'd better do it like everyone else believes it should be done. This is why you can have two different masters/knights with wildly different views on what is the right action or emotion in any situation.

The hate that's being hurled at this show is unwarranted. It's no where nearly as bad as naysayers are saying it is; it's a decent show at the very least, but it's a good show in my opinion. EDIT: Like many other streaming shows, _The Acolyte_ appears worse than it actually is because people are watching it episode-by-episode on a week-to-week basis; this has ruined people's perception of its pacing. This show is written like an extended movie, which means that it flows better when it's binge-watched. Each of its episodes is equivalent to one half of an act, which is why it appears so asymmetrical in regard to how certain types of events are distributed among its episodes (e.g. dialogue, drama, action, etc). It just so happens that by the time that I started watching it, its first 6 episodes had been released, so I was able to binge watch them. I was therefore better able to appreciate its pacing relative to most other viewers; an action-packed episode followed by a dialogue-heavy one did not bother me, because that's typical in a movie. Additionally, The Acolyte features some of the best hand-to-hand combat and lightsaber dueling that's ever been in Star Wars, and it has a few intriguing mini-mysteries, such as the initial apparent mystery of Osha being in two places at once or the identity of Mae's master; these mysteries help maintain engagememt in the story. I also love the portrayal of the Jedi Order as imperfect, because it would be unrealistic for such a large and expansive organization to always live up to its ideals and to be void of internal conflict.

Right? Some of them are saying it's the worst show ever and that's such an exaggeration. The truth is that they were turned against the show before it even came out because it was directed by Leslye Headland, whom they've been told they should hate for reasons. A lot of them got told the show is "woke" and even though it's really not they pick the show apart to find instances of "wokeness" to get angry about. This forest is likely the most natural and most boring place he has ever been in his life and he has no choice over anything in his situation. So here he is stuck in the middle of nowhere, in an environment he doesn't have experience with, against his will, cataloguing boring moss for two months with no end in sight and no understanding of why he is there; especially when they could have made a droid do this work. Negativity certainly draws clicks. Our society and even our world may implode from all the negativity and divisiveness that results. Sadly, those caught in the trap that was so carefully rage-baited, don't always realize and so end up stuck there and even helping to perpetuate the negativity even longer, and causing it to become stronger which allows it to catch more people.

I do not blindly defend current Star Wars or Disney, and The Acolyte is not perfect. But it is far from "killing Star Wars" or "the worst ever". I do find it odd how some of the harshest critics of what they term "Disney's Star Wars" were also among the most ruthless of George Lucas back in the prequels. If anyone is killing Star Wars, it's certain parts of the fandom I think. Lucas decided to portray the Jedi as incompetent as an organisation, yet still sympathetic, back in the prequels. This is further expanded upon by Dave Filoni in the Clone Wars series, specifically with the framing of Ahsoka and the Jedi leadership's failure with the situation of clone troopers Tup and Fives. Do you remember the hate Lucas and the actors who portrayed Anakin received by "fans"? Do you remember the hate Ahsoka as a character and her voice actor received by "fans"? The lesson of Star Wars is to grow beyond your past and strive to do better. I do hope us fans remember that, and critique the media we consume with a clear and open mind.

The more they try to paint Sol as being compassionate and worried for the children (or Osha) the more he feels like a villain. He's just so obsessed with Osha. When he explains the mission to Torbin, he says the vergence must be "studied, protected" like he just is obsessed for no reason. I think he went in knowing that he wanted this vergence, and then when he found it, he wanted to have it at all costs.

Something we all tend to forget in 2024, is that Star Wars and Star Trek were contemporaries, from a certain point of view. Back then it was a common trope in Sci-Fi, thanks to Star Trek, to laud the unemotional dispassionate character. (Thanks Spock.) George Lucas didn’t know he was launching a franchise and so adopted the ‘unemotional dispassionate’ trope and applied it to all Jedi, which helped narratively to distinguish Jedi from Sith. For one movie and one character, Ben Kenobi, that was fine and wonderful. Fast forward (to the past) and the prequels you have 3/4 of the cast in a trilogy of movies trying to emote over the top of an ‘unemotional dispassionate façade’. If the actors were successful, they broke cannon and if they were unsuccessful, they were boring to the fans. Fast forward again to Disney+ era and whenever you have a group of Jedi being proper Jedi the show is boring and slow. Sci-fi and Star Wars need to drop treating emotions as bad. Hopefully Daisy Ridley’s Rey will fix this going forward. And stories placed in the Old Republic or earlier can treat the same Jedi dogma differently, instead of suppressing emotions to avoid the Darkside, they work hard to manage their emotions to avoid the Darkside.

I think one of the things a segment of the fandom is struggling with is the continued departure from the initial high fantasy concepts of “A New Hope” where the bad guys were unambiguously bad and the good guys unambiguously good. But the subsequent films in the OT already began breaking down the mythology of the Jedi being unambiguously good. Probably the biggest example I can think of is Yoda and Kenobi withholding the true identity of Darth Vader and then when called out for it by Luke that it was met with “true from a certain point of view.” Since then with the prequel and sequel movies and tv shows there have been continued explorations of the Jedi history and how and why they had failed either in their missions or ideals at various times. To summarize my point I think some fans don’t like to have their biases and conceptions of the franchise deconstructed or criticized in any way from how they experienced it as children.
@redoctober1

The problem is that too many modern writers are deeply flawed people, who sympathize with the villain(s) and do this over-used shades of grey or sympathetic villain trope. Vader still had complexity, stage presence and character development. Meanwhile the antagonists in this show are just victims of everything and society, have blank SSRI stares instead of emotion, and rely on plot convenience instead of character development.

what you said About the fans saying poo poo on Disney compared to the prequels and how they were hated, Is exactly how i see the Star wars community right now i predict 10-20 years in the future we will have channels like SW Theory pop up defending Disney Star Wars like SW Theory defends the Prequels. Its a viscious cycle of Hate for ultimately a fantastical Universe which Canon is convoluted and honestly unimportant when it comes to most things as even the creators of Star Wars didnt care about the identity and potential of the overall universe, they wanted to tell a story they told that story and then when they had to revisit the Story for the Fans thanks to Corporate decisions, everyone hated it. But even still The Prequels are beloved and Disney will be in time as well.

Luke, in his 20s, managed to bring his father back to the light side of the Force. Similarly, Rey, who was around the same age, not only brought Ben Solo back but also defeated Sidious. Granted, they were both Force royalty, but let’s remember this is all fiction. Perhaps we should consider the idea that training individuals for serious tasks when they’re in their 20s, rather than sending them to a boarding school where their ‘master’ takes them into battle, might be a better approach. If the battle doesn’t kill them, there’s a good chance they’ll be slaughtered by an alumnus turned Sith. Maybe waiting until they’re in their 20s could work, even for those who aren’t Force royalty?
