I'm excited to see someone who built a pilot version. I'm working on the first pilot version myself. Love the look of those nacells. Great side by side video to conclude part one of your project 350.. Thanks!
Wonderful! Thanks for this! As mentioned, I have that MR ship too. Working on the 350 refit currently. That is a daunting project. Soon as that one is done, I'll move on to TOS Enterprise. Light kit should be out by years end. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks for the LED info. Several folks have let me know about things that are out there that may have worked. I'll remeber that the next time I have an issue like that. The main problem was that the shuttle bay wall is actually right against the hull wall completely blocking the window ports. In fact its so tight there that when you put the window inserts in at those ports it creates a gap in the hull halves with them in there. I had to shave those down as well.
i met with a guy in tempe, az. that was doing blueprints for the first star trek movie. he said that it had been in the works for more than a year. had all the deck details, doors, elevators, and even intercom speakers. absolutely mindblowing. the original model was 6' long, displayed at old tucson, and was destroyed in a fire. but, there were actually 3 of them. the blueprints were about equal those you would find in a walmart store, right own to door thicknesses, lighting, etc.
hay Boyd I'm Philip I'm a Star Trek fan and I just want to say I like your video's the star trek one's mostly the refit Enterprise-A is my favorite Starship and I like the 1/350 scale model you built I think it's absolute studio quality work I commend you.
To quote George Takei... "Oh my!" ;) It is very cool to see both of these compared side by side. I'm almost surprised you didn't try to slip on some temporary ISS Enterprise markings and do a bit of a "flip flop" sequence with the camera since the ISS ship is essentially pilot 2. ;) The choice of the warm white LEDs for the lighting was a very good one IMHO. My PL lighting kit just arrived, so I begin my trek to build a series version of the ship this week.
Hi again.. the stand and base that the PL kit is sitting on , is it detacthable? I've seen the poles with what seems like a jack plug or socket type plug? Excellent build too
Hello, love your videos and your modeling skills. I purchased a MR Enterprise signature edition a few years ago but it didn't come with the stand or power supply so I've never seen it light up.So I'm going to have to make something from parts bought at Radio Shack. I just don't know what type of power jacks or the volts/amps to use, I would deeply appreciate any advice from you, thanks.
looks great, what is the red part on the Master replicas that is making the noise and is lit? it sounds like one of those old space pistols we would get as a kid and pump the trigger of to make it light. ultimately I think I like the look of your build more, love the open shuttle bay. cheers
Thanks for showing us your two sweet Connies. What supplies did you pick up at the local Model Shop? Was it 2 vials of Micro-Dilithium. Maybe a couple of magnetic bottles of Micro-Deuterium.
The grid lines on the MR Enterprise are like pencil lines and are on the surface. The Polar Lights kit has actual recessed lines in the top and bottom of the saucer. They are fairly small and not very deep so they can easily be filled if you don't want them there or you wanted to paint them on the surface like the original model.
people do a lot of variations in grey to this ship, sorry to go on :) yours look fantastic. i hope to get my effort on you tube soon if my camera allows me ?i have seen a lot of yout trek models and they look spot on .be glad to see more of your work . great talent :)
Question 1 what are those 4 rectangle panels on top of the saucer and are they lit? 2 when did the TOS Enterprise have the big round lit panel above the 3 front sensors? I’m going to be building a 1/537 AMT TOS Enterprise, also are there 2 small green or orange lights on the front nacelles just above the Bussard collectors?
Great job on the kit. Not to nit pick, but is the motor noise from the Masters Replica model? And are there no nacelle lights on the Polar Lights kits?
Some years back, I think it was Master Replicas, had a prebuilt Enterprise-D from Next Generation. Did anyone you know ever get one? Was curious how it looked. Great video, thanks for posting.
wish i was a s good as you at these things, i have to complete my revel kit, i know you dont like these and i see why. there are a lot of imperfections in this kit, i got 3 just incase at bargain prices, painting it was fun and a learning experience, trying to avoid dust and getting a good few coats on, i am lighting mine with motors and 12 leds in each nacelle. yes 12 x 2 mm, its tight believe me, i got rear flashers to go in aswell as a mod to the saucer dish
Yes to more large kits! To much instant gratification-prebuilt stuff nowadays! An Excelcior and Reliant in 350th would be cool! They should probably throw in a Klingon BoP and Romulan Warbird as well! (Or just for the sake of "We are America, not American't!" put out an Enterprise D in 350th! It could be two seperate kits, one saucer, one engineering hull.) I'll just dream on now! Keep up the awesome vids! Nice work and nice tips for us lighting rookies!
jpatt1000, the Enterprise-D in 1:350th scale would be over SIX FEET LONG! Even a 1:700th-scale model would be a smidgen over three feet! (That would be SO cool!) The Romulan D'deridex-class Warbird is 4,440 feet long, according to Andrew Probert, the production model's designer. This would make a 1:350th-scale model 12 feet 8.23 inches long! I would like seeing such a kit in scale to the AMT/Ertl models of the Enterprise-C, -D, and -E; and the Klingon Vorcha-class Attack Ship. These are in 1:1400th scale.
so what if they would be massive? a 12ft long warbird would be incredible and what about VGER in the same scale? you could live inside it or equip it with an engine & wheels & tour it around trek conventions for a good fee!;for model maniacs, some company MUST under take to make these massive kits;a 1/18 scale Saturn V (with astronauts) would also be great.
I have this model but the power supply burned up and I cannot see what the voltage and amperage was can someone please tell me what it is so I can replace it?
dish to get side flashers in,i have tried lots of ways and spent lots of money to get as close to the original as i can though this is the cg version, which is made for lighting, the led strips in cool white are hard to fit in as this is around 19 inches long, the neck and secondary hull are a bit small, though, i am managing.the cg version on the show, i am sure the lights are are not right on the nacelles?they used to flicker in the bussard collecters randomly, i studied it.also the rear flashe
The MR Enterprise does have a super nice light effect on the engines though. A camera never does them justice at least not my camera. I have the Round 2 light kit in hand and after setting it up it does the job but it's not perfect. The light flashing rate is too slow and you don't get the twinkling effect that you should see. Some mods will be needed to get that to look better.
wow my friend this looks awesome i really want to get the polar kit version as it looks amazing but I'm scared i might ruin it and mess it up i wish i could purchase it and send it to you to do for me
The polar lights on the 2nd Pilot version should be offset slightly rearward. Plus, on the 2nd Pilot version, the impulse engines should be 8 smaller outputs (as like in the Franz Josephs' drawings).
the rear flashers on dont see on the cg version aswell as the neck coloured red windo and the green at the rear for which i will put in there as this is right, dont get me wrong, the cg version offers good effects but, the original ship is the one and should had been shot with model and closer accuracy to the original instead of making it look silver grey, i ahve gone for a very light grey on my model, close to how the plastic comes in the kit before painting, i think this looks right? ,
They had no lights on the nacelles of this version of the ship. If you watch the TOS episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before" you'll notice the difference and how it changed for the regular production of the series.
The pilot episode Enterprise, 1&2, have always been my favorite versions. It is like a look at the ships early design, along with the crew uniform look.
The polar lights has a kit for the lighting effect on the 1/350 1701 engines. This kit does not include the bits of mirror, as used in the original desilu studio filming model, which should be glued in with silicon room temp vulcanizing glue (RTV). Cyanoacrylate ester (super-glue) causes fogging and frost to them that will hinder reflection value!
Michael Jobin The model here is meant to be the second pilot version from "Where No Man Has Gone Before". Note the rocket type exhausts at the rear of the nacelles.
medic 927 It's big, the upper hull is big enough to place a big turkey on it. Giving the idea of a size. Far bigger than normal scale model size sold in any stores years ago. Think refit Enterprise with Galaxy class Enterprise comparisons.
Sad, bet she took EVERYTHING off of you. That's what normally happens when a man has to go through a divorce. The laws have got to change to protect men these days.
In the Polar Lights model, the lights in the Bussard collectors don't seem to light up. If that's so, that's a major flaw, much worse than the blueish tint in the window lights of the Master Replicas Enterprise.
Food for thought. To feed the crew of a Constitution Class for five years it would be a total of 2,354,250 meals breakfast lunch and dinner. That's a lot of food over five years.
He he, yeah the MR Enterprise is not going to sneak up on anyone. The motors that drive the spinning bussard collectors are whats causing the noise. They are all like that.
The MR sucks in lots of ways? Whoa, are you kidding? I understand it has some minor flaws (what model pleases everybody?) but "sucks"? C'mon, man... I couldn't disagree more. I understand that a lot of model builders are naturally MR Enterprise detractors, many feel threatened because it's pre-built and they look down their noses at it, but please give the Devil his due. The MR is fantastic! And what's more, it is already built! If you're not a skillful builder, there's nothing better!
