Sloes are the fruit of the Blackthorn tree, and are very tart little buggers, which is why the three ingredients in sloe gin are sloes, gin, and sugar to counter- balance the bitterness of the fruit. A reasonable recipe would be 2lb sloes, 1lb sugar and a litre (1.76 pints) of gin. Bung the lot into a large lidded jar, shake until the sugar dissolves, and leave it to macerate for 12 weeks, shaking every second or third day, then strain into a bottle. On the whole, it's a lot easier just to buy a bottle!
I'm in AZ too. I watched at about the same time. It's 4:35 a.m. as I type this, but since DST hasn't hit L.A. yet, they share the same time we do in Arizona.
Ha ha ha. I love you women. You like a good drink. And you’re over 50 right? Because most folks who used to sleep like logs begin to become sleepless around age 50. Late night is a fine time to shuffle about and think about life. Also my favorite sister, well beyond the age of 50, an almost timeless beauty, after living around the world has settled into Scottsdale to my great surprise. Her favorite abodes are NYC, London, Moscow in that order. Yet she feels fine in Scottsdale. And has a stiff one every night before bed. Me? I could never live in AZ. Way too Red. Way too hot. Way too Joe Arpaio. But what a gorgeous place to roam January thru March.
Sloes are very, very tart. You would not want to eat them. They add a berry flavour to the gin but the sweetness comes from sugar which is added to counteract the tartness of the berry. If you make your own sloe gin then get some gin add a bunch of sloes and leave it for a year then add simple syrup (the amount is up to you), bottle it and leave it for another couple of months. Yum.
When YT wanted a change as I am hearing most channels describe, I feel it made the uniqueness of the channels change to a more corporate formula. Watching this now makes me miss the old videos. The uniqueness of you and Marice. Sigh...BTW I totally get what you mean. I ate a nectarine the other day and I thought how sweet but "meaty" it tasted.
I was just thinking about buying some sloe gin today, since I've never tried it before, but I didn't know what cocktails to put it into. Then I got the notification for this video! Get out of my head! (Great video though)
I'm loving gin more and more and I got the suggestion of mixing aloe vera and apple juice with gin. Hope it goes well because I'll start listing some fancy cocktail to make at home. This one looks good too, very refreshing.
Sammy kershaw in “queen of my double wide trailer” ordered his girlfriend a sole gin fizz as they sat by the lobster tank waiting on chicken fried steaks. Just a cool tidbit for country music fans
I feel your pain. My wife only likes either a Gin Fizz or a Rum and coke, so when she likes something else I make I pretty much caught lightning in a bottle!
I make it every year, or at least I did before the local council cut back the hedge near me. I've litres of the stuff, it gets better over time too. I would rate Bramble whiskey over this, which also matures over time to a complex fruity, rich liqueur.
Hey Leandro, Rambo called he wants his knife back! Seriously though looks cool but dangerous. At least use a tea towel in your hand and some silicone to grip the ice. Great video as always!
i dont know why but did leandros voice chance over the time? in the old videos he has more of an baritone voice and in the vids since lets say 2019 his voice is more tenorish
Pro tip: ice is brittle. Use the back side of the knife to smack the ice. it's just as effective and you don't risk turning your drink into a "bloody mary" accidentally.
Realistically yall, that knife is serrated. Even if he did hit his hand, the way he's using it the worst that would happen is a prick or a jab to his palm, nothing worse
Thx for your channel. Like your stil. But need some clarification about the sloe gin. How is your brand of sloe gin? To use a pre-made dose not show best class. Often they do not even use gin to make the sloe gin. Best is to do it your self Than you also make sure will get the alcohol to at least 60 proof. A good upgrade to the drink is actually add 2/3 oz of pure gin to give it more booze-isch style.
Gunther Higgenbottom I think It’s because RU-vid can’t notify all subs at the same time due to bandwidth constraints best way to make sure you’re notified is to hit the bell Icon on our page that tells youtube you want a notification every time we post
Ha ha. The key to that ice chopping is quite simple. #1 Do not drink before hand. Most certainly abstain from REAL martinis and real tikis - drinks that contain 4 oz or more of 80 proof+ booze. #2 Use a high quality Chef’s knife. I have no clue what Fly Man is using in the vid but I recommend a much better knife. #3 Points 1 and 2 assume you’re proficient in knife work. IOW you’re an excellent home chef. #4 Once the ice is chopped feel free to indulge. #5 Once #4 is achieved do not fall for booze heroism and think you can chop even better for the next round. Switch to non-Sharon Stone drinks.
