I'm 46, I love music from the 60's and 70's. I just think that it had more to say and it was more original. The music industry became so commercialised that I never thought that we'd hear anything like it again. But thanks to the Internet, talent can still find its way through. If you'd have told me 10 years ago that a British rapper would be competing with Pink Floyd as the greatest artist I've ever discovered. I'd have laughed you out of the room. Individually his skills in story telling, rapping, singing, performing, guitar playing, piano, song writing. Are all top tier. Having all of these skills makes this kid a one in a generation artist.
I'm an old school prog rocker, Floyd, Genesis and Yes etc. But I've been obsessed with Ren for a year. I've heard about 70 songs and EVERY one is at least fascinating, never had an artist like this before, he's a generational talent.
Oh no, Ren does not imrpovise! He is utterly meticulous in each video, planning out virtually everything. Sure he takes input from those with him but they only add to the genius. 8-) I sincerely hope you watch more of Ren's videos, there are a veritable ton of them.
On a live stream Ren, his cinematography team Samuel and Josh, talked about sourcing props for Violet's Tale on a very limited budget. The bed is a child's bed propped up and the IV bag is really an enema bag. LOL I think they said the "hospital room" was actually a bike shed that they cleared out. A lot of the time they had no permission to shoot the videos in the locations they did. Gotta love the ingenuity. Great reaction! Looking forward to your continued Ren journey.
That's one of my favorite parts of any Ren video... when he pauses the instrument playing to use visual representation of the story, to paint an even more vivid picture ❤ I feel blessed to be alive at a time to witness Ren and his brilliance 😊
The camera work really reflects Sam’s (the cameraman) genius. Everything is done with a purpose. The camera is not accidentally out of focus when they go through the door. When Stevie pinches and turns up Violets eyelids, her vision would be out of focus, and then REN’s face comes into focus like Stevie’s would when Violets vision focuses. The detail and thought that goes into the video’s is nothing short of astounding. Thanks for your great reactions to Ren. 🙂
The twist at the end make it amusing instead of just sad. He defies genres but his genre is listed as bardcore. When asked he said storyteller. I think storyteller and artist. He's amazing. It's great to see people start the Ren journey... I'm here for it.
Ren is a MASSIVE perfectionist and has ADHD. That combo means that when he’s making a video Every. Single. Thing. is pre-planned. Every note, every footstep. Every gesture. Every facial expression. When he shoots one takes he knows exactly what spot to be in and when. He knows what camera shots he wants and exactly how they should look. Once he’s got EVERY nuance worked out, they shoot the take. You also mentioned how hard it is to play and sing/rap, but imagine doing that PLUS acting the story PLUS hitting every mark and camera angle for the entire song, no breaks. Like a Broadway show but with instrument playing and camera angles and marks to hit.🤯 Ren’s a genius, even more than you’ve realized (yet😉) and more than you’re giving him credit for.

The OP writes the UK version of John and Jane Doe is Jenny or James, so I’m asking since when did unknown bodies become Jenny or James Doe?

NIL Improvisation. Ren is meticulous in planning out every word, note, breath, step, pause, venue, lighting, acoustics, etc. - to the Nth Degree. It takes a LOT of effort - and rehearsal before The Take - to make something this complex, fast paced and on point - look this effortless. A Masterpiece & Master Class in Storytelling. In delivering modern blend multi-genre street theatre by a mega-talented creative artist. BUT Ren is also Far MORE than an Artist. He's also a powerful Social Commentator, who's not afraid to tackle the hard topics. He uses ALL the creative tools in his toolkit to bring us right into the frame. To stand as 'Witness'. He wants us to care. He says; "Hey! Look Here! This sh-t is WRONG! We need to Fix this!"
Getting ready for work as I'm watching this, and it was a fire reaction! Jenny and Screech will always be one of my favorites by Ren, not only because of his great performance, but because the story is so compelling and plays around with time in a way that would make Christopher Nolan proud. You can compare! Nothing in this world is new or not influenced by some outside source. Ren and friends just found a way to pretty much combine at genres in every song they make. Now that is uniquely Ren.

Loved the reaction and how into the story you were. Ren hopes to one day do a Netflix series of musical tales like this one. Musical meets Scorsese vibes. Also, his promos for these were awesome. He introduced Screech's tale by staging that his phone was stolen and the person (Screech) was posting to his Instagram. So people got glimpses of Screech's life before this dropped. Instagram was about to shut his account down because so many people were reporting it 😂❤
Up next: Money Game. It's more master class on story telling. If you do all three parts, make sure to do the official video for part 1, the LYRIC VIDEO for part 2, and the official video for Part 3. There's a live video for 2 also, but it's a bit of a rough draft, and the lyric video is the finished song on that one.
Just my opinion, but there have been 1000's of recent reactions to The Money Game Trilogy so I would hold off and do these later after spending some time exploring the Ren catalogue. I suggest some of his classic Rap songs like The Hunger, Losing it, or Genesis. Ren tells the stories and the filming of the stories are all done so well i found myself looking for the bodies laying on the ground. The saddest thing about this is the fact each of these things are happening in every country at this very moment and the cycle continues

I love how amazing storyteller Ren is. After seeing so many reactions to Tales of Jenny, Screech and Violet it hits absolutely everyone - he is able to suck us so deep into Violet's story, that we forget we've heard first two and that there must be some connection between all three - just till the end. That's just insane! Another thing, that hits just after the final words: Jenny was 14 years old, just like Screech! Yet, walking down the dark streets of London in high-heeled shoes... she wasn't just another teenage girl, she was a young prostitute. This makes the whole story even more heartbreaking when you realize how tough her life was, until her brother "let her escape". And - last but not least: Violet left home while she was sixteen, and her flat was paid for by a welfare scheme. This implies, that she was pregnant then. And no... Stevie wasn't the father 😢

If you guys react to Money Game Part 1, 2 and 3, make sure you react to the Lyrics Version of Money Game 2. The live one (on the beach) is just a promo and half the song. They aren't a cohesive story, they don't need to be reacted to in order or at once but they are solid. Cheers!
As I understand it, he wrote Jenny and Screech's tales 2 years before he finished it with Violet's tale. That's the sign of a true artist, someone who lives with their work so much that they can come back to it 2 years later and want to add to it, or feel that it's not quite finished. He also published various other little facts about the story that weren't part of the songs or the videos, like the fact that Screech's friend couldn't answer the door because he was out with Screech's girlfriend. Those little details he published on social media really fill out the story, and again it's the sign of a true artist who really thinks a lot about the narratives he's creating.
Ren said on Violet's tale there was a perfect take where it started raining just as he reached the final alley, but someone shouted out the window and spoiled the take. And he did mention that money game took more than 130 takes.
Ren and Chinchilla do art. They don’t care about a whole lot of fame. And in doing that they both are blowing up. There are very few artists out there like them. BTW, he does what’s called Bardcore
Jenny and Screech was based on a real incident. Violets tale was an imagining how J &S could have come about and the nature of growing up in an abusive home. The circle of psychological violence and it's repeat throughout life, if you don't get help
I didn't see a comment addressing this but I didn't read all 155 comments: Jenny & Screech were written together, in the same year. Violet's tale was written a couple years later--- and I think you can see Ren's musical progress here. Violet's tale (to me) is even more sophisticated and complex, artistically.
