Guys if you watch RU-vid to improve your pool game this is the only channel you need. Bryan is the ONLY Pool RU-vidr that talks for a while then demonstrates the shots all in one take. There are other pool channels that have good info but they can't hit the shots on command the way Bryan does. Bravo to you Bryan!!

I consider myself a pretty decent bank shot shooter, however one thing that definitely helped me massively improve was randomly discovering and watching some bank pool tournaments. It's a super tough game given that only pure bank shots are allowed, no flukes, no bank combos, no kicks etc. Given that a ball comes back up when you make one in the wrong pocket and on a scratch, a ball comes back up and you have to shoot from the head string line, it's not a very appealing game for beginners. It's very tough! However, if you're an intermediate level player/banker, playing even one session of bank pool once every couple weeks will boost your bank skills big time. It's also great for creativity/experimentation with banks, especially with multi rail options. Great video Bryan, as always!

Hey Players: Have you used english to assist you in making bank shots in the past, or even to get position from a bank shot.
@briandoerge5092
@briandoerge5092 2 года назад
Absolutely! But to be honest it's easy for me to forget the English "reverses" as well as how much the English takes when the object ball is different distances from the rail, lol... These shots play right into 3 rail positioning so naturally that you should be able to get almost anywhere on the table👍😁... Thanks Bryan! Playing 1 pocket later today and I KNOW this will help on them tough shots

Had a situation recently where I could not see enough of the ball to make a short shot in the corner or even enough of the ball to bank cross corner but I hit it full with a lot of LH english and made it cross corner. Made my day,,
@RadioTom103
@RadioTom103 2 года назад
All the time. I examine the angle to see where the object ball will end up with a center ball hit, then add English to either “skinny up” or “widen out” the shot.
@kenhall3851
@kenhall3851 Год назад
Yes! Just as in a normal shot, sometime spin is necessary to get proper position or can make a seemingly impossibe shot, possible.. Some are memorization shots for banks, admittedly on most banks I use no to very little spin and I've begun using higher speed and track lines for banks when position isn't critical (because of the intimidating "message" it sends to my opponent as you slam a seemingly difficult shot into the pocket like it had eyes on it)). But most players are far worse bankers than they think. A test is to set up 3 fairly easy banks with specific cue ball and object ball position and have players shoot them (bank 1, bank 2 ,bank 3). But with altered shots between the 3 banks randomly on 10 tries. Suddenly a player who thinks they are a 70% bank shooter becomes a 30-40% bank shooter. Or if they think they are an 80-90% banker, it drops to 40-60%. A truer indication with more game type pressure. And of course, in banking spin can be used for two way banks either to get position or leave my opponent safe on lower percentage banks or in One Pocket.

LOL I am an APA 3 (after 2 matches) , but I have been using most of these bank shots in 8 ball. The last bank, though was an eye opener. Thank you for that. I will be practicing that. I forgot to mention, that I am playing 9 ball for the first time in a league. It is a big adjustment. I am beginning to love my 9 ball league with APA. I had originally signed up to play 8 ball, but the "secretary" assigned me to a 9 ball team. I must say that I like the APA format.

Have seen Bugs Rucker use some contrary English for steeper banks while simultaneously positioning the cue ball for the next shot. In other words, rather than putting running English on the object ball, he forced it to shorten to the middle pocket whereas otherwise it would run towards middle of the rail. Neat stuff.
@backyardbilliards101
@backyardbilliards101 2 года назад
And if you Bank a double Bank with English the object ball will straighten up off the second rial. Because after the first real the object ball has opposites spin.

This video is going to help nearly everyone who watches it. Banking is mysterious to most, and this helps replace the mystery with explanation and examples. Also, I practice kicking as much as I do banking-lots of similarities in terms of spin and speed, except it’s about what the cue ball does when it comes off of one or more rails before contacting the object ball.

Good video and as always very informative. You do underestimate the knowledge that most pool shooters have. Now the casual PLAYERS sure but I believe that most shooters especially who I've come in contact with do know most of these things. This topic has a difficulty that other shots don't. The table itself gives a person the unknown problem. That's why avoiding having to shot the bank shot period. The best bankers of all time will agree with me to avoid this shot but on your own personal table. Shooting banks are alot safer. But no matter how well you shot banks not something that you should rely upon. But as I stated before great video. 👍🏿

You mentioned a one pocket shot. I would love to see you do a series of those one pocket Banks. I sometimes play an older gentleman one pocket. He amazes me with his bank shots. I very seldom win and when I do it's only because he makes a mistake and leaves me in position to shoot multiple balls in. My banking skills are lacking but I have a good eye for most other shots

I'm actually starting to run a few 9 ball racks after 3 months of a couple of hrs a day at the table. My question is when you shot the 6 ball from your side of the table should you not have used right English instead of left. You used left again to bring it back from the camera side of the table. Around the 10 minute mark.

Great stuff! One crucial thing left out: using English to avoid a double kiss on banks you don't have enough angle on. Also would be good to mention how speed affects the transfer of spin from cue to object balls. Sorry but a mention of the difference between an object ball frozen on the rail would fit nicely in this treatment of banking.

Hey Brian! I'm here again with another confessional. It'll be my last one (until a bigger situation comes hahaha). I feel this one is worth sharing because it happened during my first league match (USAPL 470 Fargo rating) since I've seen this video. I'm on the hill and on the 8 ball, my opponent (480 Fargo) hasn't made an 8 ball yet. He gets a timeout to figure out his best defensive shot and almost executes it perfectly. His best option was to leave me with a bank of some sort. His defense was fairly good except his object ball came back and nudged the 8 ball just enough to change a wide cross corner shot into a backwards bank cross side shot. The type of bank that this video was made for! In my previous response I told you how this has been working out for me ever since I watched the video. And that hadn't changed up until this point. I won't say I'm perfect but I'm much more successful than before and a lot closer on my misses. And have a better plan in these bank situations now. So to tonight's game when he knocked the 8 ball in position for the cross side I'm like this is the moment I've been waiting for! League match, on the hill 8 ball bank to show how this English works! I calmed myself down. Found my ghost ball. Aimed it up. It was a few inches off the rail so I made a slight adjustment as opposed to it being right on the rail. Then before my final approach I repeated to myself "let the cue ball do it's job" got down on the ball and nailed it. Perfect pocket speed. So again, Brian, thank you for your wonderful advice! This has been a game changer for me because I can get out of these tough banks without giving it much thought! Final score of my match was 160-20. It's my second dominant outing this session and I'm definitely leading the MVP for my team. After week 1 I had the most MVP points in the league but a bye week held me back. And I had a hill hill match that went to the last ball in between. But I'm gunning for the MVP of my league this session and last night should put me in the top ten! I'M FOCUSED MAN!!!!

Thanks again CST. We picked up 30,000 subs in the last two years without "buying them," like some channels have done. And our sub count is accelerating. So we are getting there. We also have a more mature demographic so each subscriber is move valuable (from an ad revenue prospective) than those on the teenybopper channels. lol

Hi sir, great video, very easy to follow as a beginner! But may I know why are you shooting below center at 10:00 but above center on the previous shot? Thanks in advance!

I was keeping the cue ball from scratching in the corner by putting some draw on it. Thanks for watching.

You should do a version of this talking about object ball distance to the rail, and top vs bottom spin. It’s not as crucial as sidespin, but nonetheless still useful to have in your arsenal- especially players like myself who love one pocket.

0:44 Another thing about this shot is that the cue ball gets sent on a natural trajectory through the center of the table. which came in handy last night when what I learned from this video came through in the clutch again. I had 3 balls left. I needed to use my first ball to get position for a good breakout because I had a ball stuck on the 8 ball. Well I barely nicked the 8 ball and got the slightest separation. I misjudged the speed for the breakout shot. My opponent had like 5 balls so there wasn't much defense available. I only had one way out: make a ball in the side and bank straight back underneath me using English. When I made the side pocket with pocket speed I pushed the 8 ball past one of his balls. Couldn't avoid it because they were so close. So after the bank I had to basically get to the center of the table just a little bit past the side pockets to get past his blocker. And the English to make the bank set me up perfectly on the 8 ball. I had to add a little extra speed to get past his blocker but not much. Straight in shot. Bryan, thanks again for this great advice! I set the bank up with confidence knowing that it was on only option out. He also had a ball in the pocket which made it bigger for the bank shot. And thanks to something else I learned from you yesterday I thoroughly out shot him all 3 games we played. I lost the 2nd game because I scratched misjudging the speed again. Best out of 3 league match. I'll go to that video now and share what I learned and how it has INSTANTLY paid dividends to my game.

Bryan, Nice !! .. a very simple question for you: Okay so you know you need left hand english to make the shot (scenario) What is it that determines whether you you use TOP left or BOTTOM left English ? Is it just position or other factors? Thanks !!!

Yeah, really depends on which direction you want to Cue Ball to go- come backwards or go forward

Hey Brian thanks again for another great video always appreciate them is there any chance that you could possibly give any insight into the game and strategy of one pocket since I am fairly new to this game and eager to learn. Anything at all would be greatly appreciated thank you

I might be able to show you guys some one pocket shots in a future video. I will make a note. It might take some time since my next 13 weeks have already been recorded. Thanks for watching.

Bro I've been out shooting twice since this video was uploaded. Last night and Monday night. Monday I made 3 out of 4 banks using English as demonstrated in this video. Last night I was 2 for 2. As long as you hit the ball a little more full than normal and use English to throw it in the pocket you will make the shot.

This may be a stupid question, but is transferring English from the cue ball to the object ball affected by follow or draw? In three successive shots you go high, center, low (vertically) while using left/right.
@FXBilliards
@FXBilliards Год назад
I think I understand your question- so I’ll try to answer- you can transfer English with high or low on the cue ball as long as you put a left or right spin on it. Because center left and center right will allow you more spin you could use that as well. In general I stay away from any center ball hits when possible.

LOL, this is true. Remember that games like One Pocket, and Bank Pool were born in the south and mid west. They were playing those games before we knew they were games.

You could also use opposite spin to straighten out the bank

Does a softer cue tip impart more English on the cue ball, rather than a hard tip?
@FXBilliards
@FXBilliards Год назад
In some cases it will give you more grip which does give you more spin.

Banks are amazing. Got to use them to break the other person's spirit. Make them think what do they have to do to not allow me to have a even a bank shot. Lol

So how do you get the cue ball out of the way in time so it t doesn’t get hit by the object ball after the first hit?
@FXBilliards
@FXBilliards 2 года назад
I simply used the angle to get to CB past the object ball. This is not always possible. Thanks for watching
