Notes: Drop the shoulder - thumb low on the neck - wrist beneath the guitar - elbow tucked in to body (curls fingers over) Ostrich Head - Make your weak Ostrich strong! 2nd, 3rd, 4th fingers before barre High fret position Corner of the finger Show them knuckles! Another great lesson! 😁
I’m simply stunned! I have been trying to do a clean F barre chord for months with little to no success until following Mark’s instructions on this video. I have a bit to go to transition to this chord quickly but I literally was able to nail the dreaded F after watching this video once and have consistently been able to cleanly play it ever since! I cannot thank you enough Mark.
@Mark TheGuitarGuy - Agree, tucking the elbow and rolling your shoulder so the hand rolls works so well. I was able to play an F and G bar chords and they ring out clearly. Now I just need to build strength in the hand. Thanks so much!
This video is a diamond among videos. It is the best explanation I have seen on how to do a barre chord. Bravo Mark! You just made the guitar world a better place.
For two years, as a new guitar player, I have run away from bar chords, even cheating on the F with some pretty gruesome sounds as a result. Thanks Mark. Simple, clear instructions to follow which I will do as soon as I stop typing.
Mark, these tutorials are presented extremely well. Thanks so much! I've struggled with bar chords, but your description of the wrist shape, shoulder drop and thumb position makes so much sense!
I shit thee not, if you’re reading this wondering wether nor not this video will be worth your time it absolutely will be! My friend gave me an acoustic last week which I haven’t stopped playing since, I couldn’t for the life of me get my index finger to work without buzzing or muting one of the strings. By the end of the video I can play perfect bar chords. Unreal. I’ve played bass for years but I’ve never progressed so quickly with one short lesson Thank you, sincerely
Thanks Mark. I've struggled with bar chords for three years. Nailed my very first bar chord after 5 minutes !!. Tucking in your elbow makes so much sense. Cheers mate !!!
I have been having trouble forming bar chords quick enough. The trick with the first 3 fingers then bring the index finger in last helped me huge. Thanks
Actually works. I kinda “forgot” how to do barre chords. Watched a few vids, this one has all the best tips and I can play them again. Struggling with F minor bug F major is a breeze
That tricky minor note in Fm will start sounding more as you progress. But try this... move the Index finger higher up over the neck slightly, as if your trying to reach it above the neck. It’ll stop that little crease in ur finger from sitting right on that string that’s not ringing
Hi Mark, started on barre chords about a month ago (mostly the F chord) and I'm doing ok, but this will definitely help me get better postitioning with my fingers and shoulder..thanks
great video Mark, its really helped me to get a better understanding of these Barre chords, especially the positioning & angle of which the first finger rests on the frets.keep up the great videos i,m really enjoying them, especially your videos on the various strumming pattens. great tutorials keep up the good work. many thanks
Thank you! Great info.... The part with the wrist, the thumb and tucking in the elbow was espically helpful.... (I've been to several different sites) As far as I know, you are the only one on RU-vid who mentions this.
Phew it took me ages to do this and it was only when I had the bridge lowered my string were to high so my thought as well as the great tuition if you are still struggling look at you set up 🙂
I have small hands and no matter how hard i try i cant get the second to last string to work, its a crevice in my hand that stops it from being pushed down...
Good video but I have no problem with the bar. When I do an F chord, the problem I have is putting the 3 fingers down perfectly on the strings. I miss a little and have to quickly adjust, especially with the middle finger (on an F chord). But that very short delay is still too slow and the chord isn't clean until I adjust. And the B chord - that one is a nightmare!
SeeYouLearnEnglish you should practice regular open chords like E major and A minor without using your index finger i.e by using middle, ring and pinky until you get used to them then using them while barring with index will become natural.
Loved your lesson, I tried a lot but i'm unable to play barre chords. I need you right beside me to teach the barre chords. Why this is happening with me everyone can play but why i can't.
With respect,I think youtube videos(not just aimed solely at you Mark)make barre chords seem at lot harder than they actually are. Once you understand the finger positioning it simply requires practice, like everything else.
That’s awesome that it’s easy for you… However I’ve taught literally thousands of People how to play bar chords and for every single one of them it’s not an easy task no matter how easy it’s taught.
@@MarkTheGuitarGuyChannel I was only trying to emphasise to others that it is not impossible and not to get over anxious about them. I am lucky that I have picked them up quite quickly but I believe everybody can do them as long as they persevere. I was not being insulting.
Mark i got an issue....my f, a minor and a major bar chords are okay but my eminor bar chords suck as the stupid g string refuses to ring....>< my god its annoying...any advice on tht? I feel like my index is always "slipping" into the g string....any reasons for tht and how to remedy tht????
Right, if you do it this way, it‘s gonna hurt ... because it is wrong. Never bend your wrist and don‘t use your thumb. The secret about barre codes is not about getting a grip but about letting the weight of your arm press down the strings. You can play barre chords with your thumb off the neck and with no pain no matter how long. As he says, he figured it out himself instead of learning from the best. Watch classical guitarists play and you get on the right track: the road that leads to no pain.
