Guys! Hanon seems to be the thing to Go To when working on technique! Do you agree? 💥💥💥

I have played and practised *Hanon* and *Dohnanyi* for years and in different scales too and they took me from level zero to HERO. 😁 You have explained so well about hand gestures and articulation and I believe that Hanon's advanced exercises for scales in thirds and octaves are the best anyone can do and would certainly make them a good pianist. Very well explained!👍👍😊

Yep totally aggree with you, the Hanon is really good source of exercises! There was a huge discussion on reddit about the Hanon recently.. and the community seems to be split between 'hate it 'or 'love it'.. 🙄

Great video! I'd be interested in what steps you'd advise to build speed when practicing either pieces or exercises. I find I can learn the notes, but bringing some pieces to tempo is difficult as a beginner/intermediate player.

My pinky in the left hand seems to have a mind of its own. It always rises with sort of a sling shot or whip affect, especially when coming back down in the exercise. I've watched your left Hand, but your pinky stays in line with your other fingers. Maybe I should practice by leaving my pinky down on the key, then finishing the scale. Your thoughts.
@UgniusPianist
@UgniusPianist Год назад
Hey! Yes the pinky I think should be closer to the keys :) If it raises it kind of indicates tension, so you might want to check if you have tension while playing :) If no tension there - maybe you are alright!

Amazing videos, you should do more!!!!! I understand it takes time, but man! Also, can you do a video like this but focusing more in the octaves section? I know you have some videos of octaves legato, but I would like to know how to practice those Hanon octaves

Hey, thanks for your comment! I am actually working on the new 2 videos on Hanon Book 3 :) One of them will be released this week :) What else is hard in the Hanon book 3 for you? You are right ìt does take time, but it is not the video editing, or recording that takes time.. it is planning and thinking what i want to talk about as well as doing research on things (if needed). P.s. you have some serious technique yourself, looked up you Keyboard Solos, they are great!
@johanssoncisneros1489
@johanssoncisneros1489 3 года назад
Thank you so much for your comment :) means a lot coming from a great pianist Actually I don't have more problems with Hanon, my problem are generally octaves, Its not like it hurts when I play them, I feel I get tense faster and I cannot practice passages or octaves alone because I don't want to injure myself

Hi Ugnius! Great video as always :) I've always been critical of the "raise the fingers" suggestion in the book too, but I like the repeating pattern of the excercises as opposed to, for instance, Gradus ad Parnassum excercises which are a pain to learn by heart. One question: wdyt about playing hanon exercises in different tonalities? I've been trying nns 1 and 2 in D major and they're really annoying to play like that, can hardly reach speed (I can do about 120 in the c major versions).
@UgniusPianist
@UgniusPianist 3 года назад
Hey Reiza, if you manage to do a 120 in the C major ones - you ROCK! As for the modulations: it is funny you mention that but i do exactly the same thing and my students do that too! (In fact one of my students gave me that idea, and i think it really works).
@adeilsonzeroberto
@adeilsonzeroberto 3 года назад
What are your favorite ones? As a beginner, I loop through 1, 2 and 3 using 60,70 and 80bpm. I don't intend on doing them all sequentially, hence the question. I'm interested in the ones focused on 3rd and 4th fingers
@UgniusPianist
@UgniusPianist 3 года назад
Hey Adeilson Silva, my favourite one is in fact from the book 3, the very last one(no.60), which is sort of an etude really, focusing on tremolos and the stamina. The harmonies are nice and I remember I use to love playing it when I was a kid ! Do you have your favourite? :)

some should write them or show them in other keys beside C !!!! fyi CHOPIN taught the scale of C last but every one else seem to teach everything in C I believe because most people are teaching how to read music/ music theory and not HOW TO PLAY PIANO

Makes sense, so if you are only working on getting the fingers work - lifting up may help, but if you want speed - keep your fingers down

@@UgniusPianist I basically finished when I was younger ( I am 30 ) . Did not focus so much on the third scales besides the chromatic third but other than that I thing O had finished . Right now I am working on several pieces such as ballade n 2, some Chopin’s Etudes ( three so far : Revolutionary, Ocean and Octaves ) , and also I am studying Rach 3 . On top of that I still want to resume my studies on ballade n 4 ( my favorite ) and Nocturne in c minor also my favorite. Currently I do some scales but not every day . You play very well sir :)

Pick up slow tempo and practice the L.H.with the metronome. Start by exaggerating the circular motion in slow tempo. The faster you get the smaller the motion :) Hope that helps!
