If you can learn how to hit this shot, you will NOT be stuck at the same level that you are at now. Every single player knows how to speed up the ball and hit it hard, but how many players know how to slow it down - away from their opponent's optimal strike zone? In this video, you'll learn exactly how to use your opponent's pace against them!

Great video. My drill partner and I have been trying to master the reset. Especially like the suggestion (around the 7:20 mark) to stay back and not come in if you reset is high. There is a tendency to want to rush in no matter how high the reset is. The progression through the steps is something we can practice each time we drill. Thank you.

@@BrionesPickleball my biggest problem is that I've been used to playing way too fast and I do better when I slow down, but my experience comes from playing table tennis and I enjoy being aggressive. But I experience players that like to be bangers and it sharpens my eye hand coordination. I started learning pickleball this March but I really need to get back to basics and this drill will certainly help
@daveharter6469
@daveharter6469 Год назад
I have gotten my mind to see that I needed to slow down. this video was great for me. One thing I noticed in your returns is that the height of the ark of the ball is not over the top of the net, but about two feet on the returnees' side of the net, so at the net is not the top of the ark of the ball. so the ball is coming down when it gets to the net. giving a much better chance of the ball landing in the kitchen , not on the line or out of the kitchen. It's a much better percentage shot .

Jordan-- you keep forgetting your most important tip-- to be sure and spin the paddle between shots! 😁 -- which, of course, you do all the time-- but I I'm guessing it does help in keeping one's grip looser on the paddle?

Great video on this topic. Well done. Two quick questions: When you split step, are you on the balls of your feet awaiting the ball? What is the paddle angle in the transition zone vs at the NVZ?

Yes. Paddle angle will vary depending on the height of the ball.

I find myself trying to be too perfect with my resets and a higher percentage than I want going into the net (rather than a little more margin over the net, but at the expense of them being a little high). Until it is mastered, I assume it is better to be a little high... Also, what are the key things you look for where you choose a reset over something more counter-offensive? Obviously shots at your shoes need more defensive resets, but it's the ones torso height that could be countered under the right conditions...and it's those conditions that I'm interested in. Thanks for all the great video's Jordan!
@BrionesPickleball
@BrionesPickleball Год назад
I hope to make a detailed video on this sometime. It’s a learning process that can be different for every player. You have to experiment to see what balls feel good to reset and what balls feel good to attack.
@kabnis2022
@kabnis2022 6 месяцев назад

Thanks, Jordan! Quick question-is the difference b/t a “reset” shot and a “5th-shot drop,” the ball bouncing for a drop shot and a reset is a volley (with no backswing)?
@BrionesPickleball
@BrionesPickleball Год назад
They are the same, it could be off a bounce or a volley, they are just both the 5th shot, and both resets.
