If Starscream couldn’t swivel his waist in the G1 Cartoon, then how is the Masterpiece able to flip the bird when the cartoon can’t do that? See? YOU WERE PROVEN WRONG, PEOPLE WHO BRING UP THAT EXCUSE!
Imagine if they took the cartoon as basis for the articulation Skids would be a brick, bumblebee would be a revoltech and most figures would have no waist, ab crunch or butterfly joints
Fascinating how Jobby and Doc Lock uploaded reviews about the same figure on the same day and had entirely different opinions on the matter. I'm on the Doc's side tho
What does it for me is that yes, it is the best OFFICIAL MP Starscream by a mile. No questions about it. He is absolutely great. BUT. Third Party still exists, and that new DS Starscream is looking to be way better that this figure is. Moral of the story? If Takara aren't ever going to hire those third party witches to design their toys, then they'll always just fall short.
Dunno yet. Don't even have the figure yet. I tend to make videos when there's a good idea to go over: something beyond 'figure good' or 'figure bad'. I don't have the figure yet, so I can't say
@@DrLockdown honestly I just thank that you replied You're funny and charming You just need some sort of audio adjustment I can't tell what Maybe a better mic or something? I don't know But overall I like your content
5:22 The F-15 can't do that IRL. The F-22 can, which is the plane Starscream turns into in the Bay movies. There was a prototype F-15 with STOVOL capability, but it looks very different from a standard F-15 due to a pair of massive canards on the forward part of the fuselage.
man it's so wild both you and Jobby the Hong both reviewed this on the same day because you both actually started with pretty similar takes and then went in completely different directions by the end of it not saying you're wrong or anything, I just thought it was interesting
I'd like to give a shout out to MP-53 Skids! Not only does Skids look good, it took a different direction from the toon accuracy by getting the original toy designer of g1 Skids to make the masterpiece version.
Ran into an article on TFW2005 about reviewers peeps watch. And I thought about who I watched. Which made watch this. I then subbed cause I realized how much I've watched and enjoyed right when you said "Megasimp". You didn't need to know all that, but now you do. You're welcome.
It's times like this that I'm glad I never went down the Masterpiece rabbit hole. Got MP 10 and MP Soundwave, and that's it. Don't think that'll change any time soon
@@DrLockdown really? Is that true? That would totally make sense in that case I wonder which of the WFC figures specifically they worked on. I wouldn't be surprised if it's both Earthrise/Siege Optimus and Soundwave seeing as they are very much downscaled MP figures with how similar they are in looks, feel and transformation
Use floor polish on that pin. Keep moving the part while it dries so it doesn't sieze up and it should do the trick of keeping it in. Just a suggestion.
@@_V.Va_ tbh I'm just poking fun at how some may not know which reviewer to trust the opinion of more because thinking for one's self is a foreign concept.
For the nosecone, let's just say that crimson wings did it and even the voyager did it, what you or lazy eyebrow (forgot who) suggested on the voyager to have the nosecone split is exactly what crimson wings did so it definitely works
True If anyone says a giant bettle is properly scaled with an f-15 show em this or that photo of the crown vic crushed by an eagle (Edit) I recently looked at the photo and it turns out its a chevy, not a crown vic.
He was more positive but also critical of the figure's flaws. People throw shit at him for being too harsh on official MP Takara figures, but once in a long time with Screamer he is a bit more positive and already gets shade thrown at him; this fandom really doesn' what they want. At least they aren't blindly positive with an official figure like a certain famous reviewer i won't mention
I remember back when I was a kid and saw an ad for the first MP Optimus in a booklet that came with one of my Energon figures, I wanted to someday get it, and then finding out there were other high-end figures like it made me want to someday start a Masterpiece collection. Now that I'm of an age where I can collect higher-end figures and looking at the current MP stuff released where they're super expensive just to be overly complicated for the sake of complexity without accomplishing enough... yea I think I'll be sticking to CHUG. With the way the MP line is going, I don't think I would even want to get an MP Armada Prime as a high-quality version of my first TF figure since it would probably cost $500 and explode into origami to transform between two bad modes.
@@DrLockdown Is THAT why CHUG has been pretty good the past few years? Damn. But good! The better engineering going to AFFORDABLE figures is a great move.
Personally, I prefer mp-11 starscream than this. Transformation was simpler and looked better than newer version. Honestly masterpiece went down hill after mp-44 Optimus Prime. Just feel like Takara gave up on the masterpiece line, feel like only putting passion in beast wars instead the whole entire line which is disappointing.
They were in trouble back with the overcomplicated, fragile paint mess that was MP36 Megatron...that overcomplicated transformation, the breakage issues if you weren't careful, and the easily chipped paint definitely bumps it down from amazeballs to just pretty epic. MP39 Sunstreaker basically said "yeah, this is how we're gonna do business going forward". Then came MP43 BW Megatron with his fragile crotch and his uncooperative panels for T-Rex mode...and so on.
@@DrLockdown can you elaborate on that? Whether in this comment section or as a video of its own? I'd like to see you simply talk about and provide examples about what makes a good or bad or simple or complicated transformation. Cause with how you kinda always interchange the meanings between videos, it becomes a bit difficult to keep track of. A video dedicated to just talking about the transformation process and why it matters would be very appreciated
Unfortunately due to circumstances surrounding the country I live in, I will never review MP36. I can elaborate though. MP36 is complex, but every step is buttery smooth and nothing feels superfluous. Each part has meaning, and they don't add useless steps that accomplish nothing, unlike figures like MP52 or Weijiang Thunder Leader. Complex doesn't mean bad: it's just that so far on this channel I haven't had a chance to talk about good complex transformers outside of maybe ROTF prime
@@DrLockdown I don't really want a review of MP-36 in particular. I more so wish for something like a 5 to 10 minute long video of you giving us a Diagnosis on what you think makes or breaks a transformation. On what bad or good means in the case of the process and how much can be considered complicated and how much can be considered simple. I'm sorry if I can't put it into words, but what I basically want is a "How to engineer transformations" or "What makes a transformation good or bad" if possible
KG Cyclonus jet nosecone transformation puts this MP-52 to shame with how convoluted it is. Hell MPM Megatron, Unique Toys Dragoon and New Age do it as well lol
I don’t really like any of the hyper cartoon accurate MPs, at least from photos, I don’t collect MP, but I like the look of this guy’s robot mode. I didn’t like it at first, but now I do.
I suppose this is where the third party Deformation figure comes into play as the one that "does this but better" and cheaper too. Looks nigh identical to this figure, but has a waist swivel and handles the wings differently.
How did the combiner wars and Iron factory seekers manage to have the accurate nosecone transformation, while being friggin' legends figures Classics toy? Fine it is a stylization and the way the nosecone swings and swivels is pretty neat. Would have preferred the normal one but this is still pretty goddamn sick Siege Starscream? He IS a tetrajet but it would have been cool it it had transformed like the impossible toys figure but y'know good Earthrise Starscream makes the classics transformation shit while still having no waist swivel. The classics was forgivable since it was pretty small and the clunkiness adds to it but this is meant to be g1 Starscream so it sucks The MP version 1? Kinda has the original transformation actually, but with a cool stylized twist. Better than the classics. But this is just......wow And it's not like I am a geewunner, I've been pretty liberal towards the MP ver.1 and classics. It is in the end my opinion that I love the original transformation, and if it changes a bit, it's pretty neat But my god is this a left turn if I've ever seen one holy hell.
I mean I'm not complaining. Hastak figures are cheap. But I mean hastak figures still use fake parts today more than usual while having thinner plastic, they are simpler than masterpiece but they still aren't great. I mean look at Kingdom Rhinox, Tracks or predominantly in the studio series with the wreckers, Dino, Dotm Megatron, Both Optimus Primes, Jetfire ect. Luckily with Mp Skids, they're moving away from the horrible weird transformations, in masterpiece at least I doubt it'll change for the legacy line but we'll see
@@Majinhero I'd be less annoyed about it if they fixed the nosecone just sitting on his back, and instead like had it split and rotate to sit on his back in a less noticeable way. I know it wouldn't be a good fix but it's better than the piece just sitting there.
Great points. This puts things in perspective even a little more - the zeta toys unicron is a beautiful piece (in my opinion). Made extremely well and great sculpt .. also Four times the size as this piece of garbage.…. It is still $50 less (at showZ) then takara starscream. What sucks even more- the more I have this figure and mess with it, the more I don’t like it.
@@DrLockdown From reviews and people who have messed with the figure say he is extremely solid and sturdy without any insulting QC issues like MP-52, though the paint is extremely thick and can scratch in some areas. Most importantly the transformation from robot to jet mode can be a nightmare without any proper transformation guide (the reviewers who transformed DS-001 by pure instinct were struggling on it), but users in TFW2005 who took their time with all the joints and watched some recent transformations videos, said that it's not really frustrating and can be fairly intuitive if one knows how the joints work. For example: the transformation of the chest/cockpit section and Starscream arms were a pain for those that didn't know that the chest could open easily using the ab-crunch or angling just a bit the arms down as lever to unlock more easily the neck section; and the arms are in an assembly with screws that need to match up and in that step appears as the figure suffers from clearance issues, fortunately in TFW a guy posted that the hinges can angle down in an L form and then rotate up so that the screws will be facing on the same side without all the unnecesary fiddling. I apologize for all the text, but i thought it could come in handy for you before transforming DS-001 and i hope that your copy will have no QC problems
Do you think even the wings transformed wrong (since you fixed it as you said), do you think it's a little better on the back after fixing it? Or it's still a piece a shit?
Interesting thing i wanna point out The manuvering thrusters are innacurate to the real life f-15 eagle. those thruster nozzles are fixed in place on every eagle and only open and close, and the jets that have em are russian mig's and sukhoi's
@@DrLockdown yup, inaccurate. But if I do wanna make a very far out guess, Starscream wanted his Alt mode to be the best version of the F-15 as possible, so he made his thrusters be able to do Thrust vectoring (the term for when the thrusters are able to move around like that) though I thought this was a licenced alt mode for God's sake
i have watched this video multiple times, right now i am watching it with my legacy voyager soundwave and guess what, it has the same problem Lockdown has.it has a the left shoulder pin joint that wasn't punched correctly or the little tiny thruster thing wasn't pinned correctly. If you are wondering what that means, just think of it like this, the thruster is at an ever so slight angle putting stress not only on the pin, but the hole it is in. it can't sit flush with the top where you swing it around for either of the 4 modes (there are 2 secret modes). also the right side thruster is perfectly fine. thanks for the shawty qc hasbro. also going to mention this here as well, my armada starscream that i pre ordered, came with a missing screw, at the back of the head on the figure, it is okay since the face plate has a secure grip, but wtf hastak?
I really wish people would call out Takara on their fumbling of the Masterpiece line. It seriously baffles me that this is one of the only video reviews I’ve seen that views modern Masterpiece negatively and points out its faults. The only other ones I’ve seen are Jobby’s reviews on Bumblebee v2, Arcee, and your review of Star Saber.
I just realized, it’s even more retarded to make you buy Skywarp and Thundercracker to get the coronation gear after realizing they weren’t even in that scene. Starscream threw them overboard.
I already didn’t want to get this before it came out, because of those weird proportions with the large chest, short shins, and large feet it just looks bad,and that’s not even getting to the face.
Grapple was the key moment I started HATING the slavish cartoon accuracy. Here you have a figure that originally did have waist articulation now have it taken away simply to move the tires oh so slightly to be cartoon accurate. Bring back Hasui, the Lambo's and Datsuns are fantastic. ... and release Deep Cover to complete the range and FINALLY make Mirage, I can happily stop collecting MP's then.
Hasui basically did the majority of the WFC line. If you want his style, you can still get it, only for less of a hefty price tag. The new dinobots are his work too, which is why they turned out so well
@@DrLockdown My friend has been happy with the Dino's. He is looking forward to getting the team to end his collection on a high, I'll have to let him know that factoid, he also enjoys the Hasui MP's. And no wonder I've been enjoying the output from this trilogy, good to know. I believe the SS86 Hot Rod and Rodimus Prime were by the MP designer for MP Hot Rod V2 is that correct?
Man this toy has some conflicting reviews, but this one convinces me to stick with the cartoon colored MP3. even if it is not cartoon acurate at all. Also h...how do you know this toy is as expensive as an hour with a woman of the night?
Yea... With maybe acception to face. You pin-pointed the flaws quite well. And as for the rest.. The minifigure technicly would been nice, but considoring the qualoty of those, (like in MP 44 aka Prime 3.0) skipping them was a good idea. Plus most people don't REALLY care about those. Also, I get the point what you did with Skywarp aka. "poor paint application". But hey, it at least look's uniqe, like if that was a scar/wound after getting shot in the face. And I never knew I would like Diamondbolt, role-plaing, as a "Karen" 😁
This to me is one of the best Starscream figures out there on the market. The proportions are very faithful to the animation, the transformation (albeit unorthodox) is very inventive, satisfying, and refreshing-just look at the way the nosecone radar is utilized to form a clean backpack and how the tail wings tuck away into the main wings. Absence of waist swivel is fine as the figure has excellent poseability and excellent modes. Just an ingenious figure overall.
how dare you disrespect kawamori's work, he was the one who DESIGNED the original F-14 Jet robo for takara in the first place. all of his designs are perfect
ya know its sad when modern masterpeice is so predictable that even an average joe like me can predict it won't be good also 30:21 which of diamondbolts videos did you get that from?
@@DrLockdown oh ok didn't know that also why is firebyte Ahkmou? that doesn't make much sense given Ahkmou's character, is there something I'm missing or am I reading too far into a joke about obnoxious fanboys?
Uh just to point something out the middle pods on the chest, I only seen him do that in Deathbattle against Rainbow Dash, but I highly doubt it’s canon to the G1 show (which is fitting cause Deathbattle really does a horrible job with their research)
I personally think seeker shouldn't have a waste swivle because of the nose cone chest it doset look right in my opinion because its glass and not metal if they made it so it did it below the nose cone chest I would love it But It swivling with the nose cone in the chest fake or not it wouldn't feel right to me like I get metal bending and moving but glass is fragile and wouldn't be able to bend like that abb crunches I see since it can just slide on in but not swivel
You’re funny but I do think you have unfair double standards, not here to criticize but to subscribe, I also respect your opinion if you don’t agree with me
You just described perfectly the MP-52 thread in TFW2005 Official news discussion. Man those Takara bootlickers really are obnoxious with how oblivious they are in simping TT and pricey poor delivered figures nly because it's officially licensed.
@@TheBatman39 fact is, TFW2005 forums are literal shitshows. No one is respectful, no one is critical enough, no one seems to really think outside of being a Geewuner
@@charlienash1050 Exactly, also they just don't know what they want and constantly complain about things they really shouldn't complain. But don't complain AT ALL when it's necessary.
I'm G1, was around when TF first started, however I do like some other parts of the franchise so I guess I'm not a true "Geewunner"? I dunno. I HATE the overly toon accurate aesthetic which sacrifices other areas of the figure and vastly increase the price along with not fully integrating with the previous MP selection. Hasui saved the MP line. When MP was under his design lead what I saw were figures that blended toy design, toon design and a sprinkle of MP uniqueness to give them a different visual yet still instantly recognizable look.
