Please do not do anything shown in this video. EVERY SINGLE THING IS WRONG 1. Deck o seal is polysulfide sealant exclusively for pool decks. ( polysulfide is more resistant to pool chemicals) Not traffic areas. And requires a primer made for the system. Use polyurethane in traffic areas. 2. You absolutely have to use the correct size BACKER ROD not the crap he used and definitely NOT SAND. The backer rod does 3 things. It provides depth control,the sealant should be 1/2 as deep as wide. But not less than1/4” or more than1/2” it prevents a 3 sided bond and it gives the sealant the proper profile to perform correctly. 3. Adding sand to the top of the joint will cause the sealant to fail prematurely because it restricts the sealant’s movement I have installed sealants professionally for over 45 years and all of the RU-vid misinformation about sealants is just ridiculous. It seems for every 20 that are absolutely wrong like this there is 1 that gets it right
An update. I used this on my newer driveway and the mastic at the bottom that gets run over as I back out has been pulled away from the concrete so now water can get in. We have done it twice and it happened both times. I would recommend using felt on driveways where the tires roll over it. I also have a slope so that may contribute to the problem.
First of all mastic and sealant are not the same thing. The proper sealant to use is traffic grade polyurethane. When installed correctly there is no issue with driving over it.
I recently expended driveway with borders and control joints are blocked by the new borders. So I have to waterproof previous control joints so water will not lodged in them during freezing. I also read your recent comment that it is not a waterproof. What kind of solution do you suggest. Thank-you for sharing your experience.
Great vide0! Are control joints the shallow grooves cut into a driveway but expansion joints are deep cuts all the way through the driveway ? I need to seal expansion joints with Mastic but not control joints in a driveway correct? Thanks for any advice.
Hi when you add the sand before putting the deck o seal down .. how do you fix a sink hole.. whats the correct process.. do you keep adding sand or is there another way to seal the hole before applying seal!?
It should work, although it's a stretch. I would make it an inch or more deep if it were that wide just to give it a little more staying power. It will be even more important that it is supported from underneath, so make sure the sand is there evenly and it can't settle. Good luck!
Sealants should never be installed more than 1/2” deep. And sealants should once cured are not “supported from underneath “ You should not give advice when you do not understand the basics
