As a student I worked on the CN trains between Halifax and Montreal during summers and at Christmas. One of my strongest memories is of the train racing down the Matapedia Valley in winter between Campbellton and Rimouski, and pulling into small stations like Mont Joli in the middle of a snowy night. Thank you Kate and Anna, for this song and for all the other wonderful songs and albums that have embedded themselves in my life.
I've been a Kate & Anna fan for years and years. This is one of their best in my humble opinion; hauntingly beautiful, melancholic, with a hint of irony.
I thought this was the best the sisters could ever do -- and then the late Kate sang "Proserpina" at her last live concert and she blew me away. I don't believe Kate ever recorded the song in the studio but her daughter Martha Wainwright's version is a stunning, emotional tribute. Kate and Anna were so good...so magical...I miss them performing & recording together. I saw them at the Bottom Line in NYC with Emmylou Harris and that concert was very memorable. "Matapedia" is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful songs ever written and this is what we have to remember them by.
@@larciabella - I think it was 2000 in Sept. Emmylou Harris was at that concert as both a guest and a spectator. She sat near me. It was quite a good concert, one of the best I ever saw at The Bottom Line.
Sailed in the '69 several times from Europe to the Great Lakes with " ms Prinses Emilia " , " The Orange Line " , Kate & Anna brings that beautiful memories above , thanks K&A
That's where I grew up.. in the tiny village of Matapedia! And her daughter Martha is one of my all time favourite singers on this planet..!!!!!What are the chances I'm piecing this together now... this is her mom
I'm putting the pieces together too..what a great family...Martha was my favorite Wainwright, but now I'm getting it..blessed be for Kate McGarrigle. (There's a tribute to her life, a concert documentary I rented from RU-vid..go find it..it's so touching)
Having first heard Kate & Anna way back in the seventies, it sort of almost hurts to listen to them now. Too many reminiscences. But as beautiful (if not even more so) as ever.
I was very intrigued by this song. I knew these Ladies only through the 'Civil War' series. Years after that series, I just stumbled upon some of their music............what a waste of all those years that I didn't find out about these two before now.
Opening song at the commoration celebration of my beloved Hanneke at 2023 february 11 after she passed away the 4th. Was our most popular McG number… Tears in my eyes😢. For ever…
Got kicked off a train here... detained, then released and had to jump on a connector train (literally) to make our rugby matches at McGill. Sadly, the beautiful, haunting, but calming music of these two did nothing to 'mature' me. Well, I guess that ain't so sad, really.
