Another very funny and classic episode of Match Game with: Nipsey Russell, Loretta Swit, Charles Nelson Reilly, Brett Somers, Richard Dawson, and Betty White
This early 70's era for Match Game was the highlight of the show. Everything was new and the celebrity of all the panelists was fresh. No one was jaded and their was excitement in the air. Everyone was happy to be there.
21:26 I love hearing about things from Wisconsin, and to hear about something that is close to where I live. Mind blowing. Weinbrenner is still making shoes in Merrill.
@@mrmustangman Oh no, I was in a silly mood that day, and thought it might be kinda funny to exaggerate the numbers. At the time, gas prices were rising and Japanese cars were selling at a high rate. This was due to the fact they got very good gas mileage. According to the TV advertisements, the Datsun B-210 I had, got about 45 mpg on the highway and 35 mpg in the city. 😊
Shelby 412 it was very fun because game shows came on and I watch Buzzr and the gsn every day and I love the seventies too and the seventies made me happy with Gene Rayburn making funny jokes and one of the episodes he took his shoe off. Man, time is moving way too quick, this time needs to stop so we can go back and see Gene Rayburn in person ☹️
It actual gave Charles more time to tell his jokes without Brett butting in constantly. Too bad Richard and Brett couldn't get along. It would've helped Charles in the long run.
Sarah Kinsey he was so funny and I would never have a better host than Gene. Gene was the best game show host ever and I miss it when he was alive. And Gene attacking the cameraman ....lol...
Bucky Flywoodie I 1,000,000% agreed with you and match game is one of my favorite game shows and game shows keep me alive and going and people are just so nice on there but I wish I was on there in 70s :(
He didn't start using the hand mic all the time until a later season. The reason was so that he didn't constantly have to keep grabbing the hand mike as the turntable went around when it was time for the Super Match.
@Nelson Robert Willis My theory was if you drew a blank and couldn't come up with an answer, just say Boobs or Tinkling... At least you'd have "a shot" at matching someone. 😉
I watch these episodes every day('76, '78, etc.) but '73 I discovered is My FAVORITE because THE COMMERCIALS are EDITED ! I'm Sure Alfred Hitchcock backs Me on this ! 😂
Until you hear how PC doesn't exist. The panelists and sometimes the contestants give answers and say things that people would NEVER SAY nowadays. I've seen them imitate every ethnicity. They used (Brett) the word fag. There's so many examples of non political correctness on this show it's not even funny. I read the stars were fed a heavy diet of alcohol before the shows tapeing. I watched match game religiously as a kid. I loved the show!
@@zooyawk4526 This show wouldn't be anywhere near as good if it was on now, compared to how good it wss in the 70s. It would be like the new MG with Alec Baldwin... In other words a train wreck.
ROFL! Another fine after dinner episode! :0) ROFL! Love ya Gene! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Charles! :0) ROFL! Love ya Betty! :0) So funny seeing Gene giggling along side the contestant when she gave him her answer and then Gene crawling to the panel to get her answer. ;0) skirt! ;0) lying? Warts! On the first date! ;0) You know that brings up an interesting question, when the contestant didn't take any of the suggestions from the panel where did Roger write the contestants response for the audience match so Gene could be reminded what it was? Hmmm Suurrreee Gene, suurrree.. ;0) Bouncer?
@@zq9m3xh8 The parents of the baby boomers and the gen Xers were saying the same things in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. The world changes. Sometimes us older people just don't keep up with it very well.
My opinion, you need to keep whining and complaining about Brett so I can make fun of you in future comments as I rewatch MG 73 and 74. And get the sand out of your vag.
I have a question - why is it that up until 1974, Gene Rayburn was announced by Johnny Olsen as "The Host" of Match Game and then the following year (1975), he suddenly was announced as, "The Star"? All game show MC's were ALWAYS the "Host" of the show, why did it now become..."STAR"?!
@@mikeizme20021 Thanks Mike for your reply - most appreciated, but does nobody really know the reason? I'm just curious what drove Gene and others, to demand equal "Star" status when in the past they've always been known as The Host?! Just curious.
A young woman from China...Free Press! She's right...Too bad we don't have that any more...It's all propaganda today like the world she came from...She seems so mature and statesman like.
I love Charles Nelson Reilly, in a platonic way of course, he's so intelligent funny and talented, read his bio. and Brett is really annoying I saw her in a Have Gun Will Travel episode when she was young and wasn't pretty even then, and of course Dicky Dawson is great and Betty White is a doll.
How rude can you be. Brett was a beauty all throughout her life. Brett was a beautiful person inside and out. Why say these things about others yet are nasty towards Brett. This shouldn't keep on happening. Leave her alone.
Beach Town Reseller yeah but she was sooo great panelist and one of my favorites too but Charles and Richard , and her are my favorite but my one one favorite is gene
Yep. Usually about 70% of the time. And blurting out during questions like people are waiting with baited breath to hear her talk. Please Hush, Brett!!
@@timdub70 This was a first-season show, relatively early in the reboot's run. They were still trying things out. I'm not sure CNR was even a full-timer yet.
You know that brings up an interesting question, when the contestant didn't take any of the suggestions from the panel where did Roger write the contestants response for the audience match so Gene could be reminded what it was? Hmmm
It was unusual. The time between picking their own answer and revealing three answer would be about a minute and a half. I'm guessing Roger and Gene could handle it.
Brett was, and now watching the reruns still the most annoying of the panelist in this game. Always trying to get the attention, talking not sense. laughing, singing, you name it. I hear many times at the host saying, :"This is my show".
And coughing. I think she tried not to match question 1 just to get more screen time. She often attacked or insulted the others. She was an attention whore. And only Gary Burghoff was worse. Without a M*A*S*H script he sucked. He had a family connexion to get on the show.
Yes. If they had to have her, thank God they eventually moved her away from Richard Dawson. Though her obvious cribbing off CNR was bad enough. I wonder if Betty White just didn't want to do the show fulltime, she would have been great in the "2 seat."
But Gene reached the point with her and said. "Brett, when you see my lips moving that means Im talking and you shut up." One of the few times he really was pissed off at her.
