I can relate to Carol's car story. Had to bum rides until I finally had a beater car of my own, and then I offered to folks I knew didn't have their own yet. Felt good to be the giver/ granter of rides.
I love it when Louisa mentions "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" to no response at all from the audience. It wouldn't be released for a couple months and at this point probably sounded like some weird little art film nobody would ever see
Oh my gosh!! I knew that I was familiar with the name. But I didn’t know why! lol. Thank you for pointing that out! I love the line, “Alright, that does it! Out you two pixies go! Out the door or through the window!” Haha.
@@mj6962 Later in the 1950s and 1960s, he established a reputation as a producer of many successful television series, often in partnership with Danny Thomas. These included The Danny Thomas Show (aka Make Room For Daddy) (1953-64), The Andy Griffith Show (1960-68), Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C. (1964-69), and I Spy (1965-68). Also The Dick Van Dyke Show. His name was very prominent in the credits of those shows.
H/H match update: ... It's week 114 of our favorite classic game show (these episodes originally aired in mid-October 1975), and our stalwart regulars Brett, Charles, and Richard are joined by semi-regular Fannie for a second week in a row! It's rare for a semi-regular to appear on two consecutive weeks, although Fannie did it once before, in episodes 461-470. Also back is Louisa Moritz, making her third and final week of appearances. She hasn't had a shot at the H/H match yet. Rounding out the panel is "new kid on the block" Sheldon Leonard. This is his one and only week on Match Game '7x. (Gene didn't give him the traditional new-celebrity welcome, though.) Well, last week saw a little variety in the H/H matches (Brett and Fannie got to play - and match! - in addition to Richard), but as we start this week, Mr. Dawson has played 20 of the past 25 H/H matches (matching 9 of those 20 times). Well, let's see which celebs get a shot at the head-to-head match this week! ...We start the week with a brand-new champion, and at first I though he might be a somewhat unconventional contestant in his celebrity choices, because his called on Sheldon first for an audience match suggestion, and then Fannie... and then Richard. He (wisely) chose Sheldon's answer and won the $500. But then he went the conventional route and chose Richard for the head-to-head match. Today's question: "Cole ________" This sounded like another super-easy H/H match to me. I thought of Cole Porter the second Gene spelled the question, and I truly expected them both to give the same answer. While the music was playing, I did think of cole slaw but wasn't tempted to change my answer. After Gene spelled the question, Richard wrote something right away. The contestant said all he could think of was Cole Porter. And then Richard promptly revealed his card, and I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. He'd written "slaw"! (I tend to match Brett and Charles more than Richard. I have no way of knowing, but I suspect that both Brett and CNR would have come up with Cole Porter.) Here's the updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Fannie - 52.6% (10 wins in 19 attempts). Betty - 46.9% (15 wins in 32 attempts). Charles - 45.2% (19 wins in 42 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Richard - 39.1% (122 wins in 312 attempts). Brett - 38.8% (19 wins in 49 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 566, excluding the lost/missing episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")
I wonder what babies born in the 2010s will think in decades to come, looking back at fathers with shaved heads or messy hair, scruffy unkempt faces, wearing clothes that look like they shrank two sizes too small in the dryer?
On this date in 1961, The Broadway play Bye Bye Birdie lasts performance with Charles Nelson Reilly as Mr Henkel, standby Albert Peterson and Gene Rayburn as Albert Peterson had it's last performance..
Sheldon Leonard played Nick the bartender in _It's a Wonderful Life_. He had a lot of minor roles over the years. Nick is definitely his most remembered role.
I was so surprised MG cast a famous successful producer on the panel. Had no idea Sheldon Leonard did so many gigs as an actor!! He was a show business renaissance person! Like Lucille Ball.
The film that Louisa Moritz mentions with Jack Nicholson is of course the classic One Flew Over The Cukoo's Nest where she plays his hooker girlfriend. I'd completely forgotten that she was in that!
@@crissrudd4554 that's not nice, and not true. She also lost with Richard the time before that. I would have said floor mat, which noone thought of. And Brett usually has the best answer, and she matches most of her times and if they don't match, it's usually the contestant.
@@crissrudd4554 She wouldn't even have been there to match or not with Brett if Richard had given a better answer in the super match before that. I agree that sometimes Brett can be a bit much, but this blame-her-for-everything double standard is ridiculous.
Had Sheldon appeared on the show before? I don't remember seeing him before. And usually for new guest stars Gene tells the panel/audience to give the new guest a welcoming round of applause.
Interesting you are right, I don't have him appearing anytime before this. Maybe in the next episode Gene will correct this and remember he is a new kid on the block.. ;0)
This week was his only appearance on Match Game '7x. He did appear on a couple of Match Game PM episodes (which I believe were taped concurrently with this week's shows).
Boy, with those looks, and that gentle voice, I''ll bet the kids loved Rick! Some of the older girls must have had crushes on him. Maybe some of the boys, two...
Sheldon, that was a logical, erudite answer! Believe it or not, it occurred to me as well. But it's not funny, and it's totally wrong for the tone of the show. More boobs, please.
They matched Fat Phyllis with ... a weight loss program or spa. (It certainly would have been kinder than matching her with an animal.) "Coleslaw"? Well, I guess it could have been worse. Somebody could have come up with "Cole Oyl" (Olive Oyl's father in the Popeye comics).
I'm always amazed that they let them smoke on stage. Panty or panty hose is two answers Charles, good thing neither one matched. I hope that winner has a boy, Dannybrook is no name for a girl.
ROFL! Another fine episode! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Gene! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Charles! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Fannie! :0) ROFL! Love the entrances, silliness, voices, acting and the fun Gene! ;0) hippo! ;0) elephant! ;0) blimp! ;0) Repeat question? ;0) bust! ;0) boo! ;0) seven veils! :0) panty hose! ;0) head! ;0) I'll have to shot down you bird of paradise.
