H/H match update: ... Our returning champion mixes it up with her choice of celebrities for the audience match segment. Today she picks Brett, Richard, and Betty, and goes with Betty's suggestion "Call me up." Unfortunately, she strikes out (Brett's answer was the $500, and Richard gave the $250). I think if the question were asked today, "Call Me Maybe" would be the top answer and "Call Me By Your Name" would be on the board too. Anyway, no H/H match today, which is sad because she failed to match Richard yesterday, and so becomes a 2-day champion with only $300 to show for it (so far -- I haven't watched ahead to know if she wins again or not). Quick recap: Richard has played 12 of the last 13 head-to-head rounds and matched in 7 of them, so he's definitely on a hot streak. (Mary Ann Mobley scored her first H/H match in episode 585.) There were certainly excesses and mistakes (and too many manufacturers in love with polyester), but I'd take the styles and grooming standards of the 70s over those of the last 20 years, especially the last 10, in a heartbeat.

@@kenvr2287 I remember watching this show as a kid and feeling uncomfortable in the way he touched the female contestants like he had a right to, or commented on their body parts. They may not have been hypersensitive to things the way we are now, but there was a feeling that this just wasn't right. Gene Rayburn was very creepy and had no boundaries. There were people that didn't like him.
How come when people are joking having fun, people always assume they are drunk here. If they are walking straight, then they arent drunk. People have thought the same thing of someone else on this cast, only to find out he or she never touched liquor. Rip
Interesting sign from Betty at 0:14. Klass of '07. She was in the klass (wrong spelling, I know) of many years. By the time that year actually came around, she guested on a couple of primetime shows, plus had a recurring role on a daytime soap.
I think it had to count as a match because the contestant's response had no context and they never asked her if she meant "hair" or "hare" -- everyone simply assumed the former. Also, as Gene says nearly every episode "spelling doesn't count." -- But I have to say it wasn't a very typical ("hard") first-round question as the rhyming scheme leaves few possible answers. What else? Chair? Bear? Lair? Mare? Care? Dare? Fair/Fare? Ware? Nair (the hair removal product)?-- all really lousy answers. Maybe the writers really were going for animals the way Betty suggested: Hare, Bear, Mare... Anyway, the contestant was pretty lucky to pick that question!

Gene creeps me out Kissing this lady and Mary Ann Mobley. He tries to be funny and innocent to cover it - making it more creepy. This person resembles Mary Ann Mobley, actually-not as pretty.
Because it is supposed to be funny and corny? Female celebrities probably tell the produces what they're ok with and what they aren't, which is why some episodes Gene doesn't kiss some of them. Do you find it creepy when the majority of female contestants hug and kiss Richard when he helps them win the money?

I know. It was disgusting! A comment below said that if they didn't want to kissed, they would have made it known, but not according to RU-vid. MANY contestants on this show AND Family Feud hated the kissing!
