I have a friend whose name is Kim Ketcham. She, at one time, was dating a guy whose family name started with a K. If they had married (they didn't), her initials would have been KKK. Both are wonderful people, and would have never shown even the slightest inclination towards racism, but some things work out for the best.
H/H match update: ... Today's action: It took two tie-breakers, but the challenger won a hard-fought battle. Today's audience match question: "Can of _________ " (My thoughts: pop/soda, soup, whoop ____*) *Richard has used this word from the Bible before as an answer to a regular question. I highly doubt this colorful expression would be on the board, but it really was something that was said a lot back then!) The celebs: Dick (worms), Richard (peas), and Betty (beans). -- Worms is good! I didn't think of that. The choice: Beans The answers: Peas, Worms, Beans (Well I totally struck out this time!) But our contestant was savvy enough to pick the top answer (did you see Betty mouthing her doubt to the camera when he chose her suggestion?) and now he plays for $5,000. I'm not getting the "pick Richard Dawson" vibe from this new champion, but who knows? Betty would be my top guess... Wow! I guessed right! He chose Betty! This is her 36th attempt overall. She last played and matched in 718. Looking back, Betty has only played five time since episode 496, and she matched three times (the three most recent). Note: this excludes missing episode 645 in which there was a successful H/H match by the same contestant who had matched Betty in 643 and 644, so I suspect that's an un-credited match for Betty. Today's H/H question: "Political __________ " (There are a lot of good answers for this one! Political science might be the best.) Betty is holding her hands over her face as she thinks. The contestant looks cool, calm, and collected. The camera cuts back to Betty who writes her answer which looks fairly long, at least six letters. Maybe "science" is in the running... He says "science." The audience groans, but there's a smattering of applause too. Betty looks grim, but she's an actress, so it's hard to read into it! No, she's truly disappointed that she didn't match. "Campaign." No match today. That brings Betty's overall score back to a still-excellent 50%, and she and Charles trade spots on the leader board. Here's our updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: (Note: An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.) (Note: For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.) Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Fannie - 52.4% (11 wins in 21 attempts). Charles - 51.0% (27 wins in 53 attempts). Betty - 50.0% (18 wins in 36 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Brett - 41.4% (24 wins in 58 attempts). Richard - 40.7% (174 wins in 427 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 733, excluding the lost/missing/damaged episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, and 645. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!"
@@pencils812 There was a song from "Paint Your Wagon" that had been kind of popular about 6-7 years earlier that was covered by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in the film version of the musical called, "Hand Me Down That Can Of Beans".
