Today's contestant features a lady who is about to give birth to twins. Richard Dawson makes a card that says "Not guilty". Jimmie Walker, Brett Somers, Charles Nelson Reilly, Roz Kelly, Richard Dawson, and Betty White
H/H match update and preview of the week ahead: ... This is now week 167 of our favorite classic game show (the final week will be 291). These episodes were taped on October 3, 1976 and first aired in early November of 1976. Our three stalwart regulars are all in fine fettle and joined by: ~~~Semi-regular Betty White, back after two weeks away. This is her 42nd week (of 75), and she's in a long-standing, on-and-off tie with Fannie at a 50% accuracy. ~~~Jimmie Walker, returning for his 7th and final week on the panel! (His last visit was in episodes 721-725.) He's only played one head-to-head question, and hasn't scored a match yet. This is his final chance to enter the head-to-head hall of fame. Will he do it? ~~~And finally, Roz Kelly joins the wacky party for her first of only two weeks. (1011-1015 will be her final week.) Richard was the King of the H/H Match again last week, playing four out of five times, and three matches brought him back above Brett (yet again) as far as overall success rate in matching contestants. Reviewing the past 22 weeks, Richard has played 86 times. Everyone else combined played 23 times. (Brett had 8 opportunities, Charles 7, Fannie 6, Betty 1, and Lynn Deerfield 1.) Percentage-wise, Richard played 78.9% of the time over those past 22 weeks. Of course I'd love to see Betty play the head-to-head match this week! She's always a treat to see on the show, and with a 50% success rate, she's actually a safer bet (statistically speaking) than "King" Richard. Charles has played in each of the five past weeks, so I hope he can keep that streak alive with at least one attempt this week. And why wouldn't he be chosen? He's the true H/H accuracy king on this week's panel! Brett hasn't played now since 804. She remains the second most frequently chosen celeb, but her margin is gradually thinning. (She's played 66 times to Charles's 60.) And since this is Jimmie's final week on the show, it'd be nice to see him finally score a head-to-head match. Anyway, whatever happens in the H/H this week, I plan to just sit back and enjoy some 1976-style ________! ~~~Today's action: We start the new week off with the best part of the show! (No, not the kiss with new-kid-on-the-block Roz, but the head-to-head match!) Our champion had just won $250 with Richard's audience match suggestion when time ran out last week, so here she is ready to pick her ESP partner. (Well, after they modify her T-shirt, thank you Betty and stage hand with the masking tape!) Anyway, I'm guessing it'll be Richard, but maybe she'll surprise us. No surprises. Mr. Dawson prepares for his 505th head-to-head question. In his 20 most recent attempts, he's matched 7 times. Today's H/H question: "Special _______" (My first thought was the cereal Special K. Then special education. And special effects. Nothing really jumps out at me. I'll say Special K. I seem to remember it was advertised a lot back then, and Wikipedia says it was introduced in 1955, so it would already have been around for a while by 1976.) -- Edit, okay, there's a "Special K" commercial embedded in this video! -- I hadn't seen it yet when I was typing the above! Although, the commercial isn't from 1976 - it looks like it came from a late '90s/early 2000s rebroadcast of the episode. The contestant also seems to be finding it a difficult question. Charles ponders a bit, but finishes his answer fairly quickly. is nodding. Richard finishes his answer quickly. It looks to be a little a the long side. Did he write "income"? I think he might have... Richard starts to write immediately, but the camera cuts away from him, so no clues as to length of his response. The contestant doesn't look thrilled with the question. When the camera goes back to Richard, he's still writing, so it must be a long-ish answer. Certainly not "K." She says "delivery," which is a great answer that I hadn't thought of. It also makes a lot of sense that she'd think of that word since she's expecting twins. Richard reveals his card: "Delivery." (The odd thing is that there is clearly another card behind it.) ~~~ Despite all the shenanigans and general goofing around today, they still somehow managed to fit in a whole game. Brett ties the score and Charles delivers the second win for our champion! Today's audience match question: "Land of the ________" (My thoughts: Free, Giants, Midnight sun) The celebs: Charles (Giants), Richard (Free), Betty (Rising Sun) The choice: Giants The answers: Lost, Giants, Free (I used to watch "Land of the Lost" on Saturday mornings, but I didn't think of it today.) Last time she took Richard's answer and won $250. This time she took Charles's suggestion and won $250. But time has run out for today, so we'll see her H/H at the top of tomorrow's show! ~~~Here's our updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: (Note: An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.) (Note: For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.) Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Charles - 51.7% (31 wins in 60 attempts). TIE: Betty - 50.0% (18 wins in 36 attempts). TIE: Fannie - 50.0% (13 wins in 26 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Richard - 41.2% (208 wins in 505 attempts). Brett - 40.9% (27 wins in 66 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 831, excluding the lost/missing/damaged episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, and 645. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")
The game show scandals from the $64,000 Question destroyed careers. Even if it looks like the panelists had 2 cards, I am certain none of them would write down 2 answers for the sake of some contestant. And, I’m certain the show was monitored.
@@sdlively27 I believe, after seeing Charles do it earlier in that season, that it was "understood" to happen to build certain players momentum or whatever.
This seems to confirm something I've seen Charles do: at 4:38 you can see two cards ready in Dawson's hand. He only used one---no gag or anything. Must have been part of the game to have more than one answer ready.
Jimmy Walker is hilarious and goofy. Too many uptight wankers commenting "ohhh he's soooo annoying". Most likely wholly ignorant of what kind of character he played, or else something much worse.
@@magikp6636 the fact that you react so vehemently to a minor celebrity from the 70s makes me think you have some serious problems. He was one of the reasons for the success of Good Times, which came out long before the Cosby Show or the Fresh Prince. Arguably one of the most famous people on the panel at the time, except for maybe Betty White. He had the one schtick he did, the ghetto prince, but sometimes one character is enough to make someone famous. Halfwits like you fail to comprehend that when he did this over 40 years ago it was fresh.
I don't understand why all the MG episodes with Walker have comments like this. Seems like a lot of people are clueless as to who he was and his schtick.
Roz Kellys days were numbered because Henry Winkler and the producers couldnt stand her and ended the Pinky character. They had planed for Pinky to be a permanent member of Happy Days
4:38 What's with the extra card behind the winning "Delivery" card? Curious... Perhaps it was his signature, or was used so the marker wouldn't bleed through the first card? I'd like to think it was a prepared "Guilty" card in case he didn't match. I really hate to think of how horrible another assumption would be... :( Since that's all the "evidence" there is, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that it was there for a good reason.
What else would I shave with besides an electric knife? An electric fan is NOT the definitive answer gene. That was nice how the judges let gails answer of crack UP slide considering Brett and Charles wrote down crack
Wow, what a vastly different world this was. Gene Rayburn's insistence of kissing "the new girl", Roz Kelly, would never fly in today's politically-correct world.
@@nomiddlenamenmn427Yes, she did! And this is why she got booted from the show, IMO. Henry Winkler was threatened that she matched his Fonzie vibe. So he schemed and complained to get her fired. He had only been a central character for one season prior to that. Richie was supposed to be the center of Happy Days.
@@nomiddlenamenmn427We watched different shows. I disliked her from the jump. She didn't fit in the cast. It's hard to believe she was cast for even one episode.
Has anyone seen the episode that Betty is talking about at the end of the video at 2:50? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bEZkCnTKGW4.html
