H/H match update: ... ~~~Today's action: Four victories was the limit for this champion. (He did match Fannie, but the game was over when Richard revealed his answer.) At any rate, another happy former champion spins off with $6,900 in winnings. *Today's audience match question: "Jazz ________"* (My thoughts: Band, Hands, it up) The celebs: Brett (Age), Charles (it up), Richard (Singer) The choice: Singer The answers: Musician, Singer, Band Well, she chose the best suggestion offered to her. (And I swear I thought of "it up" and typed it in before Charles gave the same response!) Well, who does our new champion choose for the head-to-head? I imagine it'll be KR (King Richard). Yes. This is King Richard's second consecutive head-to-head question, but he's played 56 of the past 60 times now. Stats: Richard has matched 113 of his 262 most recent attempts (43.1%), 52 of his last 122 attempts (42.6%), 33 of his last 78 attempts (42.3%), and 5 of his past 14 attempts (35.7%). His overall success rate is *42.1%* and this is his 740th attempt so far. For the sake of comparison: Fannie has matched 15 of her 31 attempts (48.4%), Charles has matched 33 of his 69 attempts (47.8%), Brett has matched 30 of her 71 attempts (42.3%), and Richard has matched 311 of his 739 attempts (42.1%). Neither Dick Martin nor Polly Holliday has yet answered a head-to-head question. *Today's H/H question: "________Sponge"* (Kitchen sponge? Dish sponge? Cleaning sponge? I have no idea. Kitchen, I guess.) Instead of immediately writing as he often does, Richard appears to be in search of inspiration. He looks toward Fannie and then appears to be reading Polly's suggestion(s). Cut to the new champion who smiles. It looks like she's got her answer. Back to Richard, still undecided. I see Polly tossing her card. Richard still looks dubious, but writes something and shakes his head as he files his card. I'm in the same boat as Richard. Pausing and unpausing the video to type, it's been about three minutes since I've heard the question and I still can't think of a good answer. She hesitates a moment (I thought she had her mind made up?), and then says "Wet sponge" and immediately turns to guage Richard's reaction. (It sounded like a weird answer to me, but I guess there's an expression about being a wet sponge? Or is that a wet blanket?) The audience sure approves of her answer, though. Hmm. We'll see... Gene says he drew a blank on the question, but not Richard! "Wet"! (Good job on a hard one!) Richard scores his 312th H/H match today. ~~~Here's our updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: (An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.) (For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.) Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 71.4% (5 wins in 7 attempts). Betty - 50.0% (19 wins in 38 attempts). Fannie - 48.4% (15 wins in 31 attempts). Charles - 47.8% (33 wins in 69 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Brett - 42.3% (30 wins in 71 attempts). Richard - 42.2% (312 wins in 740 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 1099, excluding the missing/damaged/unavailable episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, 645, 910, 1024, 1025, 1026, 1027, 1028, 1029, and 1030. *Also, note that episode 849 was never produced. (These stats do, however, include the H/H results of missing episode 968 as those results were revealed in episode 969. Note: There was no H/H in missing episode 1035, as we learn in 1036.)
4:42 Fannie saying that you can refer to someone’s wife as their “beard” probably had more than a tad of truth behind it, although I don’t think anyone else caught on.
15:24 love this part, 😀😀😁 Example of Bretts really Bad Acting. Then the camera go to Gean talking to Polly, the camera goes back to sour face Brett😳 lol.
Richard was pretty harsh on Brett...at least she had a good attitude and was entertaining...if he was so unhappy on the show he should have quit sooner, or had his ass canned...
But she did that for every question, because she wanted more attention and the camera's on her. I'm sorry but it got old real fast. And every one knew she drank a lot. I believe something needed to be said to her. Richard had finally had enough of it. He wanted out, but they would not let him out of his contract, nor would they fire him.
Richard was no rose. He had an outrageous ego, and felt he was the actual star of the show. He high-hatted the other panelists constantly backstage, and acted superior to all of them. By the time he finally left, his prima donna antics had alienated everyone, including Gene. No one was sorry to see him go.
Dawson had an ego and chose to be grumpy a lot. But, he DID have an uncanny ability to match the contestants. As for Somers, while she seemed like she'd be a fun person to hang around with, but she was really pretty dreadful at ACTUALLY PLAYING THE GAME. If you eliminated all the time she prattled on and looked to others for her answers, they could've probably fit in 1 or 2 more games per season with more money going to contestants. Brett Somers officially had the EASIEST job in the history of America.
13:19 4 years of What was the Question Again.. Even Polly after 1 Week is Sick of Brett some old.. What was the question. He reads it loud a clear wih a microphone. Everybody hears it but her.
