The reason Fannie Flagg was wearing the nurse costume was because she was cast as Nurse Florence Wilkins in the movie Grease which would have been in production when this episode was filmed.
That thumbnail reminds me of Fannie's quip on a different episode. There was a "live one" contestant who was a nurse who was flirting with Richard, and in response to their bantz Fannie said, "I'm afraid Richard has taken a turn for the nurse."

Kris Jensen - who first appeared on Match Game about half way thru this episode - was one of the most beautiful women ever on this show IMO. I wonder what became of her. It's been roughly 46 years since she was first on the Match Game.

(She was also the rare champion to have scored a H/H match with two different celebs: Richard and Charles, in her case.) *Today's audience match question: "Bust________"* (My thoughts: a move, a rhyme, -ing loose*) *I have a feeling all of my answers are anachronistic, but nothing else is coming to me. The celebs: Richard (Size), Orson (of Lincoln / -ing Loose), Fannie (in the mouth) - I pity the poor champion. I can't recall ever hearing such a rotten bunch of suggestions for the audience match before. The choice: Line (!!!) God almighty, I hate it when Gene goes overboard and does those stupid fake accents. I know Gene wants to keep the show moving along, and wants to make sure the contestants know how the show is supposed to be played but Gloria is being very nice about it all, and I`ll bet she could show any of those clods up and give any other intelligent answer like she did with bust line. It`s moments like these that I`ll bet some contestants wonder why they bothered to apply to come on the show. Another thing Gene does is when he thinks a contestant has given a rotten answer, he`ll just say, "really?" like he thinks none of the stars are going to match what the contestant said as the answer, and lately the stars HAVE had the same answer.
I totally agree this time. Usually he inserts a few words or phrases, but on this occasion he did go overboard. Enough Gene! However, I think he was a great host.
@@tonystone1016 exactly. Relax and enjoy the game. I wrote that comment 5 years ago but I usually choose my words very carefully to convey my sentiment. So I notice that this comment is merely an observation which may or may not be true. BUT, knowing myself and my style, I purposely added the word "playfully" to enforce the idea that I know and want everyone to know that I understand Gene Rayburn meant no harm. Unfortunately, however, his remarks (probably) wouldn't be immediately construed that way today and therefore he would be hit with extreme and unforgiving backlash that would force action from his employers; hence, his termination in our present day. Please understand that I prefer the former which I gather is your feeling as well.
After winning $14k, and she couldn't get a match on "lips"? The way that cast blew through those answers it was almost like the producers needed her off asap. Sorry, don't buy it. Knowing Richard, he ignored the producers and wrote the real answer anyway. Very suspicious. And yes, Fannie wore her "school nurse" outfit from Grease right down to the "Nurse Worley" on the name tag.
How about Fannie's answer of dance card! And I agree, it seems like sometimes the panel purposely gives answers they know would not likely match the contestants.

So not PC this day and age. Everyone is talking about them making fun of the lady's Spanish, but no one noticed the fun sexism toward the middle? Richard Dawson was so creepy. Something tells me that around Christmas he was the one at the Christmas party that got really drunk and dressed up like Santa Claus and tried to get all the attractive girls to sit on his lap
Richard didn't drink at the time. But with working on Match game and his own show Family Feud, he was pretty tired a lot. And it showed. Match Game would not let him out of his contract.
