Lawd have mercy, Gene Rayburn would brighten the worst mood! I love this guy, and I miss him pretty badly. Rest in Peace, Gene, because you damn near killed yourself on this show!
@@tiffanymorgan6562 While I agree with you, the only reason I didn't add Mr. Barker to this short list along with the great Monty Hall is that Barker hasn't "gone Home to Glory" as of this post. Please don't get me wrong, like you I grew up on Bob Barker, and any list of great game show hosts is incomplete without him... and Monty... and Alex Trebek
too bad they couldn't let Gene host a few TPIR episodes, that would have been epically funny. OOPS! I said that already duh?!?! Seeing Gene hooting, hollering, jumpin up and down, kickin props, telescoping microphone, kissing the beauties. That would have been hilarious.
I caught this episode this morning (March 31, 2015) on the Game Show Network and had to figure someone had to have this on youtube. As he passes the celebrity panel i was like "what the hell is he doing?" If only they continued with the video after he tells the two contestants to talk to each other he asks for oxygen after his run around the stage and studio audience. I think Gene Rayburn is the 2nd best game show host right after Bob Barker. R.I.P Gene.
They should have let Gene host the nighttime version when Dennis James left. That would have been funny. Heck, even switch with Barker on occasion would have too.
price is right .. Come on down..in the intro.. so Gene was doing as they do on the price is right and ran up to the stage some get the joke.. some dont.. I do .. ;-)
Back in the 1970s Studio 33 was used to tape three shows: "The Price Is Right" taped two shows per day Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. "The Carol Burnett Show" rehearsed in the studio on Thursdays and taped on Friday evenings (they also rehearsed in a rehearsal hall Mondays thru Wednesdays) "Match Game" taped six shows on Saturdays and six shows on Sundays (Five shows each day for CBS and one show for syndication). They taped every other weekend so Gene Rayburn could fly from his home on the east coast to do the show.
+Musicradio77 Television Network I've been fortunate to be in Studio 33 four times (three tapings of TPIR and once for an unofficial tour of the studio). The studio is very historic going all the way back to the Jack Benny Show in the 1950s.
norelco pc You're talking about Jack Benny. I listened to Jack Benny all the time since I was young. He started in radio back in 1932 and ended up being the longest running show on radio where Mary Livingstone, Rochester, Dennis Day, Don Wilson and Mel Blanc who later does the voice for all of the "Looney Tunes", they were great. By the 1950's, they moved to TV and lasted until the early 1960's.
norelco pc Thanks for the info. I knew Card Sharks w/ Eubanks and TPIR were taped in the same studio because of the stage set up. But I never knew about the other shows. Thanks for the info
And now TPiR is packing up and abandoning the Bob Barker Studio. If it wasn’t time for the show to die when Drew Carey first started hosting, it sure *AF* is now.
@@khmam it's possibly because they taped on different days. If you look real close at the beginning of MG7x, you'll see where contestants row is for TPIR
Sonny and Cher mostly originated from Studio 31. TPIR, Match Game (with one exception in February 1974) and Carol Burnett originated from Studio 33. Today, Real Time With Bill Maher and TPIR use 33.
I still to this day can’t get over the fact that he was taken out of contention to host _Match Game ’90_ simply due to his age. That, not to mention Bert Convy being meant to host and dying some time after filming the show’s pilot, along with placing it on most ABC affiliates’ noon time slots, when they would just pre-empt the show, sealed its doom before it even got started IMHO. I mean, Ross Shafer was a great host, but Gene returning would have been perfect. Especially with some of the recurring cast from the second version of the ’70s and ’80s-Gene also hosted the ORIGINAL _The Match Game_ from 1962-1969, albeit it was nothing like the 1973-1982 version which had much more pizzazz.
@observer9670 I know Charles Nelson Reilly appeared on TPIR one time for a brief promo of Match Game and other hosts did for various shows as well, I wonder if Gene ever appeared on TPIR, as Bob had been on Match Game.... hmm......
Reminds me of high school graduation when this kid (who had serious ADHD in the worst possible way) ran all around the auditorium (just like Gene Rayburn did in the video) when they announced his name for a diploma at graduation. He was bright, intelligent, often annoying, but a good person.
Creating a memorable moment in history for the show. I guess he thought it would be funny and memorable if he did that and he guessed right. If I were the host of that show, I probably would've thought of doing the same thing just for one time and not every time, because I know I wouldn't be able to keep that up. I don't know if I would've succeeded.
