What I loved about Spain was when they had a three man midfield of Busquets, Alonso and Xavi with Silva and Iniesta "on the wings." 😂 So basically five of arguably the most intelligent creative central midfielders in the world all on the pitch at the same time. Then they went one better in the 2012 Euros when they started playing Fabregas as a false nine 🤯 Then they had six midfield geniuses all on the pitch together 🥵 England could have learned a lesson from them when they had Gerrard, Lampard and Scholes. Screw formation. Put them all on the pitch together and let them do what they do best.
What was exceptional about that Spanish sides performance when compared to the others? In a competition of World Cup winners I gather there would need to be exceptionalism..
@@therealDeencat_ only side to win continental then world cup and then continental. 3 trophies in 4 years. undefeated for 4years, best team of all time (had 9 players out of 2009 barca, which was the best ever)
@@LuisLRC I'm nit disputing the titles or the accolades. It's the overall performance in the Tournament itself. They didn't sail through, albeit didn't matter in the end. Result etc. But I digress.. World Cup Winners with far better performances.
@@therealDeencat_ thats because they didnt go as far as the players in that spanish team. like i said, 9 of the 11 were part of that 2009 barca team, who played deep in all competitions, on top of winning all of the euros. their legs were gone, and yet still they only lost 1 game. 0 goals conceded in the knockout stage is what Spain of 2010 are the only World Cup-winning side to achieve. The two goals La Roja conceded overall tied the record for least goals conceded by the champions, shared by France of 1998 and Italy of 2006. West Germany leaked 14 goals en route to glory in 1954. teams simply didnt get the ball, but if they did, had to get past casillas, puyol, ramos and pique
Italy's win in 1982 was the greatest. After 3 draws in the group and a scandal back home, they go and beat reigning champions Argentina (who went and won the one after in '86), beat Brazil who had arguably the best team to not win a World Cup, beat Poland then Germany in the final. I can't think of any other team that beat Argentina, Brazil and Germany on route to winning a World Cup.
I'm biased because my first proper world cup was 02. I remember 94 and I was about 11 in 98 but by 02 I was 15 so I knew every player on every team, I watched almost every game and was as into football then as I am today. And that 02 Brazil team was out of this world. They had guys like Lucio, Gilberto and Juninho who were great players but the fact that they had Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho up front, two in their primes and Ronaldinho breaking out as a world class player and they had Cafu and Roberto Carlos joining them in attack as maybe the greatest wing backs ever at that stage meant that they were unstoppable. Everyone slates England's golden generation's lack of success back in 02 they were hands down the only team that gave them a real go in that tournament. Everyone else just bent over for them. Ronaldo got more goals than games, Rivaldo scored in every game except one to my knowledge. Lucio was a rock at the back and Gilberto was a destroyer in midfield. Even guys like Roque Jr and Kleberson were great which was bizarre as they both massively flopped in the Prem a year later.
1. Brazil 70 - obvious 2. Spain 10 3. Argentina 22 4. France 18 5. Brazil 02 ( The Three R's, different league, ultimate dream team strike force ) 6. Germany 90 ( first world cup after Berlin Wall fell, I was in Germany, amazing tournament victory ) 7. Germany 14 ( Germany 7 Brazil 1 - a legendary score ). 8. Italy 82 ( although what they did to Brazil was brutal ) 9. Brazil 58 ( they won the final 5 - 2, Pele's first tournament, what a team ) 10. Argentina 86 ( how I hate typing that ). I detest home World Cup winners and I detest cheats. Argentina cheated in 78 and 86. I'm Scottish, the Hand of God was sickening and appalling. Of the home champions, West Germany's 74 team would have obliterated England 66. France 98 were in a different league than both
2014 Germany should have been on the list over the 2018 France side. I would agree with the guys that Spain 2010 team should be middle of the pack. There 2012 Euro Team was the peak to me.
England never actually won the world cup - they got awarded it. 3rd goal didn't cross the line, 4th during a pitch invasion. Corruption, home team privilege, etc, etc.
86 Argentina team wasn't that great. Maradona truly carried that side. I agree with Alan they should be lower. I think Michah should have swapped them and the 98 france side.
What is the last tune on here after mexico 86 i used to know every note to it but when I search football tunes from TV it's never on there. I was thinking it was an ITV show no?
