Match vehicle panels perfectly - Making the False Floor! - ProjectStealth

To cover my amplifiers and subwoofers for this car audio project I will be making a false floor. This trunk design is meant to be stealth so the false floor serves as a foundation for the beauty panels and other design accents that will highlight the gear, yet be a usable floor in the vehicle for groceries or other items when needed. #cafprojectstealth

Hi Mark, I really like your work! I work in a car manufacturing facility and I would suggest you to do some crack lines on the wood panel to avoid it being dangerous in case of crash, this way the panel will break into pieces instead of shooting in the front. Keep up the good work! :)

Depending on the vehicle, sometimes I use the factory carpet to trace my false floor shape. I you make a matching access panel on the other side you could cut out the middle of each and make another insert that is covered in speaker grill cloth to vent the sound from the subs.

Great work, it is always difficult to hid a sob box, you make it seems so easy. Believe you will have an opening in the middle for the sound coming the subs or will you place some vents over the sides? Mark, could you do a video where, you discuss the best approach for improving the subs on sedan like a Mercedes or a BMW where the back of the rear seats and rear deck are in steal.

Can you do a tweeter pod build for a sail panel? It's one of the few things I've never seen you cover, yet to me it's one of the most common builds a DIY person will need. You have certainly covered the basics in all of your videos, but I would like to see how you handle aiming the tweeter, temporarily securing it, and setting it up for vinyl. Then I 'd like to see how you fiberglass a small sail panel without interfering with the door or window and also how to apply vinyl to it. I've done sail panel builds twice and I've struggled both times! Almost seems not worth it to be honest. I'm hoping you can shed some light on this. Thank you!

Once again, nice video Mark. Now for questions. 1. For a SQ install and to block road noise, would you recommend SoundSkins Pro only, Sounkskins + MLV, or install CLD, CCF, and MLV the whole vehicle? 2. Does it hurt the mid-bass performance to put a type of acoustic insulation inside the door? I see your approach to treating the inside of doors like a box with only a fast ring or similar to help the back wave. I see other guys install acoustic insulation in doors. What's the best approach? 3. Is there a clear winner to what is the very best plastic to use for speaker adapters? (HDPE, ABS, acrylic, etc) 4. When choosing power wire, oxygen free copper is a must. But how do you handle corrosion and oxidation? Is tinned OFC better in the long run? 5. When choosing ground terminals, what do you recommend to be the best material to use? 6. When building sealed subwoofer boxes, I see boxes ranging from no fiber fill up to filling a large portion of it. I can see a side or two having a layer applied, but what is best? 7. How mad will my wife be if she found out how much I spent on stereo gear? :) 8. What do you do for a living? Just curious. 9. Is it ok to use a non-spiral flush trim bit on HDPE? Or do I need a spiral bit?

Just about ready to build an enclosure for my S10 and need a way to mount my amp that will not be intrusive to the rest of the cabin, but yet still be visible and accessible due to the enclosure needing to be very large. I’ve read a lot about not mounting the amp directly to the enclosure due to vibrations, but I was wondering if I could add a secondary layer to the the front wall if that would be enough to cut the vibrations down?

Q&A question! I have a 2010 smart for2, in which I have installed a pair of rockford fossgate speakers in the front doors. In the speaker set there is a square block thing, that I want to be shown in the door, but the place that I want to put it, is upholstered from factory. My question is: how do I make it look like it’s installed from factory? I will send a photo on Instagram so you can see what my problem is. Thank you for your amazing show, and please keep on the awesome work! Cheers, Rasmus from Copenhagen

But it’s a tight fit for a normal box with tilted front so I’m gonna have to do a custom box cuz in the middle of the box I’m gonna have a half circle cuz of the gear box cut out so my question is should I stack some MDF and cut a half circle or just make it square?

How does the bass sound with a cover over the speakers? I ask for two reasons. Not real up on mobile audio, I know enough to be dangerous. And I want to mount a stealth sub in my Jeep Grand Cherokee and the spare tire well is a perfect place, the large tires I run are too big for a spare to fit in it anyway. I would have to have a rigid cover though as I use it to haul my tools as a carpenter, the sound comes through good enough? Great channel, I have learned a lot.

Help Mark! I bought four 8 inch subs (2 ohm dual voice coil, nvx) and an audiocontrol 1200.1 epicenter. I thought it would be enough power but it turns out the rms of 250 each sub was for a ported box and mine will be sealed. Now I need 400 each sub. I know I lucked out because the audiocontrol amp can be linked to an additional amp but I have never done this before. Can you please suggest which audiocontrol amp you reccomend for me to add and how exactly does it work? (How does it combine the power of two amps and spread the power evenly to four subs?) Thank you Mark

It might get covered in a future video but is that beauty panel not going to restrict or muffle the sound from the subs? also, will airflow around the amplifiers for cooling not be an issue?
@CarAudioFabrication
@CarAudioFabrication 6 лет назад
The beauty panel will have "holes" that are shaped to look cool for the subwoofers and for the amps. There is plenty of room for airflow around these amps, they are designed well so they stay nice and cool anyhow. I did a video in the past testing the difference between having a beauty panel and not, watch it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tI1QMJdhjuU.html

Question for the Q & A: Do you think there is a sound quality difference between using MDF & fiberglass when building a sealed enclosure in a spare tire well? If so how much of a difference will it make if the volume is the same between the 2?
@frankthetankricard
@frankthetankricard 6 лет назад
You mind if I throw in my 2 cents on this topic? It's not really an answer to your question anyway as you assume equal volume, but since in practice you definitely can't get the same volume out of mdf that you can using fiberglass: I'd start with measuring and comparing the space you have to manufacturer recommendations on box volume for your driver. Maybe use some box building software to get a frequency response curve. That could eliminate mdf as an option right off the bat.

My car has a factory amp which apparently has an active crossover built in. My question is, can I used the audio control DM810 to change the signal coming out of my factory amp (example: front doors have a mid-bass signal only) or would it just enhance the signal I have?
@frankthetankricard
@frankthetankricard 6 лет назад
That processor has signal summing and a 30 band equalizer so technically it's possible to stitch back together the source signal even after it goes through the crossovers. If it's an option, I'd rather recommend capturing the signals coming out of your head unit and circumventing the stock amplifier.

I've seen several videos about bypassing a car's factory amp, but nothing about adding onto it. I have a 17 elantra with infiniti's Clarifi sound processing. The mids and highs sound great, but the lows from the factory 8 inch sub are lacking. I wandered if it would be possible to install a second amp and larger sub in conjunction with the factory system.
@DustinPrat
@DustinPrat 6 лет назад
tk146boy it would be relatively simple, you would need your added sub and amp and to get your audio signal you would need a line Lever convertor that takes high level input from an existing speaker (splice into the wires) and then you could send the signal from the convertor to the rcas on the after-market amp
