Hi, do you have to return the dvds or can you keep them for future students? How many lessons are in Beta? Thanks. I just started looking into this program.

My son is going to grade 3 from Abeka. I think start at Beta to be sure and then move to the next one early if needed

I started Math u see for my son from Kindergarten. But it was a lot for him to finish Primer. It took a year and half to finish it. Now he is 7th, and he is doing alpha. Watching your video, I feel like my son is way behind.. I think he supposed to do beta? Should I keep using alpha ?

Hi. Every kid really moves differently though the material. Since this is a mastery style program, it is important that the skills are mastered before moving to the next level. You'll definitely want to finish Alpha before Beta. There is more of a range for age and grade kids complete each level. I wouldn't worry about levels or ages. If your student is doing well in Alpha, and you have a good pace, I'd keep with the pace you are on. I hope that helps!

There was no mention if this is "common-core" or "traditional" in how it's taught. Does anyone know?

This is not a common core or traditional math. It actually teaches it’s own concepts, which to me, are very simple.

As a former teacher who has taught or tutored math in every single grade level, I prefer their teaching methods. Like multiplication actually uses place value, which makes so much more sense with previous knowledge. They also do a great job of showing different thought processes can be used to get the same answer, you use what works for you.

There's also AIM for anyone switching. AIM is a 6-8 week program to catch up older kids who need math facts work.

When using Math U See for multiple kids how many manipulative sets do I need?
@homeschoolpeace
@homeschoolpeace 3 года назад
I only have one set for my three kids to share. I haven't had an issue with them sharing. If you have more than one kid working on the same level together, then you may want more than one set. Since my kids are on different levels (this year Gamma, Alpha, Primer), if varies when they need the blocks. You could always start with one set and then get a second set if needed. I hope that helps!

@@homeschoolpeace I will be using Primer and Alpha. Still debating on using Beta or Gamma for my third grader. Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. This really helped.

How long is each lesson on the dvds for each day?
@homeschoolpeace
@homeschoolpeace 3 года назад
Hi. Each lesson has one video. Since we normally work on one lesson over 5-8 days, we are only watching a video once a week at the most. The video length can range. Sometimes only 3-4 minutes, other videos lessons 7-8 mins. It really depends on the lesson topic. They aren't that long. I hope that helps!
