The Silver Ghost will always be my favorite handgun of Leon's, but I can't deny that he and this VP-70 have been through much more together.

I remember getting the Matilda on Re4 and thinking "this is so powerful", then I figured out you could get a giant revolver with unlimited ammo after getting full 5 stars on mercenaries with everyone on every map

Some more trivia about the H&K VP70: - Unlike most semi-automatic pistols, the VP70's slide does not lock back upon firing the last round. The RE2 Remake gets this quirk correct, while the original erroneously depicts the slide locking back when reloading. - The Matilda in RE2 Remake can equip an extended magazine and compensator. This is contrary to real life: H&K never made extended magazines or compensators for the VP70. - Leon using a VP70 was probably inspired by the movie Aliens, where the Colonial Marines had the VP70 as their sidearm.

In a way, the Wing Shooter looks similar to a Walther P5, but in polymer and striker fired. The ejection port is to the left like a P5, similar silhouette, flush and slanted muzzle.

I'm a big fan of what I call "legacy objects". Things that aren't by themselves super special, but are carried by a character or multiple characters through further adventures. I really love that they established that the knife Leon uses in the remake is the same one that Marvin gives him. It gives it so much more weight as an object. I really liked to think, even if its in a non canonical fashion, that Leon kept his VP 70' after Raccoon City. Even if he uses the SG or the Sentinel Nine more as his "main" handgun afterwards, I like to think the VP is still in his possession somewhere, or even as a backup small handgun. I especially love the idea that by RE6 he just has two of them up his sleeves. Even as a rookie cop, having a weapon as unusual (for the time) as a VP70 I like to think gives away Leon's potential, as something "bigger" than just another cop.

Another thing worth mentioning is that Leon's starting handgun in Resident Evil 4, while based on several different designs, does bear a striking resemblance to the Heckler & Koch USP. While not the VP70, I think it's a cool bit of continuity for them to stick with the same brand even while using different models.

I love the Matilda and parts for it you find throughout the game! I like how RE3 now is using the Glock 19 and Glock 18 lol even though the 18 is burst in the game, and full auto in real life! Maybe a few more but I haven’t got that far yet

I actually think that Characters having a unique sidearm is a cool concept. IN EVERY RESIDENT EVIL Your character will always have a pistol at their side. When you run out of AR ammo time to use the Trusty sidearm. That's one thing ill prise RE6 for having each character get a unique weapon.

This is why I love the resident evil franchise. Awesome video

The amount of knowledge contained within them is like a small history lesson for both the series and gun history, making me drawn even closer to its dark atmospheric world, I have come to love since way back in 1996. Fun fact: one of the problems of the vp70 is that it has a lower muzzle velocity compared to other 9mm pistols of that size. This is because the rifling of the barrel is cut deep enough to let gas escape around the bullet.

Great video Kendo, I'm surprised you left out a shot of the VP70's most iconic use besides RE2. In 1986's ALIENS Lt. Gorman empties one at point blank into a Xenomorph's head, but to no effect. Gorman and other marines are seen holding this gun throughout the film. One of the many influences that ALIENS had on RE2. Also seen in 1989's Renegades, used by Buster McHenry.

I never noticed the Leon that professional connection. God I love Japanese devs. By far my favorite movie mixed with my favorite game. Too bad the director was a creep. Still love the movie.
