For those of us who were in our early to mid-teens when the Cuban Missile Crisis occurred, this movie resonates so well even to this day. I vividly remember my family sitting in our living room and watching President Kennedy giving his somber address to the nation on our black and white TV. We lived around ten miles "as the crow flies" from the Empire State Building in Manhattan which we assumed was ground zero for a Soviet nuclear strike so JFK scared the bejesus out of us. The movie itself is still a hoot with great performances by John Goodman, Kathy Moriarty and the kids. Lisa Jakub was one one of the cutest young actresses of her time. I've had the Blu-ray of Matinee for years and the new 4K version is on its way to my shelf.

It looked immaculate

I truly loved this movie and have fond memories of it from when it was first released on VHS. I was nowhere close to being born in the era in which it's set, but I've always had a love and fascination with 50/60s era sci-fi and cinema, especially William Castle's theatrical gimmickry and the 3D creature features. I will definitely be picking this one up. Great review. It was like a love letter to this love letter to 1960s cinema.
