Hello David, how do I implement a select box in MATLAB gui? What I mean is, when the select button is clicked I'd like to use the pointer to select a particular area in the image and use that area for computation. Much like the select box in mspaint.

hey mate, i have a query. i had created a program in netbeans which call a matlab program and start matlab GUI. The program works just fine but when output come up like suppose the figure window i see only a blank white screen. i am unable to any image. i can see the push button not the image and when i run the same program in matlab i can see the output image. pls help.

David I have a matlab code that I made and I used global. I know global isn't the best to use, but I wasn't sure what else to do at the time. I was wondering if there was a way I could change or incorporate globals into handles to simplify the code.

Hi thnks for reply, I am new in matlab programming, I was trying to do the same example of yours using guide, but I got really stuck in making ellipse using it. Is there any easy way to make geometrical figures using guide?

I'm not a fan of GUIDE and really just wanted to show how to go about this without having to use it. There are plenty of videos on youtube which do deal with GUIDE so I won't be doing one. Best of luck with your GUI development (with or without GUIDE :)).

Hey David, could u briefly explain what a handle is for? I cant seem to understand what it is for

It can be a tricky concept to get initially. I think of it like a builder having the address of a house he is working on - once he has the address he can then go to the house and to some work on it. The handle is the address of an object on the computer - once a programmer has the handle (address) then the programmer can make changes to the object. There are probably better ways to look at this though!
