What if I don't want the size (that is, the height and the width) of the buttons to change when parent window is re-sized?

You get change the units parameter of an object to pixels rather than normalized. set(object_handle, 'units', 'pixels') should do the job. Note that you'll also have to change the position parameter values as well which will know specify position in terms of pixels rather than normalized units.
