Oh...to hear the history of the song...to know the heartfelt genesis of the feelings put to words by Matraca Berg...is so intimate... honest and fresh...a rare pleasure for this old man's heart...and I remember September apart....
I will forever remember the first time I heard this song. They used to do two new songs against each other every night on the radio and you'd vote for the winner and it would take on the next challenger. I'd always record them on my cassette player in case they vanished. I wore the tape out on this one! That song was the champion for so long, they retired it from the competition. Oh, how I wanted to be even half the songwriter Matraca is.
She seems to he the Hank Williams of female songwriters. They called him the Hillbilly Shakespeare. She is right up there with him 👍. I'm glad I've learned who she is so she can get credit for all these great songs
I was just thinking when I 'skipped' Eat at Joe's how I don't like Matraca's '"hit's" ! I have 5 of her CD's and this is another of her 'hit's I don't like.... {I Luvvvvvv "Back in the Saddle"...... } Think she sing's her song's better than anyone else..... Love her voice. X X X..... Great song writer.....
Have loved Matraca's work for over 30 years -- she's the best! Trisha -- wow, shes the best interpreter of those songs, and has more taste and class than many of today's trashy pop-music ding-dongs...
