Rutherford did an experiment because he wanted to know the indivisible unit for matter. Like if wee cut something into into smaller and smaller piece we will finally arrive at a point where we cant divide that smallest unit into more units. Rutherford was credited to discover proton in the nucleus of the atom in 1917.
Nucleus of an atom is comprise of Neutrons and Proton. protons are positively charge particles. Electron which are negatively charge particles they orbit the nucleus
in circular orbits. Elements in a periodic table are arranged according to the number of Proton in an atom.
Mass number is the total number of Protons and Neutrons in nucleus.
Atomic number is the total number of Protons in the nucleus of an atom.
No of neutrons in a nucleus is the total no of neutrons and is called Neutron number.
Alpha particles are composite particles consisting of two protons and two neutrons tightly bound together in the nucleus.
If an atom is unstable sometimes it emits radiations to become stable. When an unstable nucleus with large no of Protons and Neutrons it emits some radiation and
it become stable. The no of Protons and Neutron in the now stable atom will be lesser than before. The disintegration of the nucleus as a result of the emission of
certain radiations is called radioactivity.
