Can’t lie, I clicked on this and got stuck thinking about my mom. I miss her everyday. She passed away from cancer at 45 yrs old, so young. Everything I do is dedicated to moms. Thank you Matt Barnes for sharing this story bra. Appreciate every word! Real shit right here man..

I still hurt when I think of what my children missed. Nothing fills the giant hole that it left right down the middle of me. My mom died when I was 19. I have one picture of her with my daughter and that’s it. My mom would have spoiled that little princess silly. When my son came along, he looked just like me. She would have lost her mind over him. I had my own kids so young and have three granddaughters. She never met them, obviously. Yet, she is shown to them all everyday through me. I love and care for my family the way I think honors her. They see her in me. It’s the best I can do. It’s all any of us can do. Honor our mothers and fathers through the love that lives on in us and we pass along to our children and grandchildren

I lost my mother to cancer in 2009. It happened so suddenly. Similar to Matt i gained my father after losing my mother. It took time but we are in a better space now than we were before. Still miss my mother though….

I feel every bit of this. I lost my father to an aneurysm when I was 19, and it was sudden, he died before I even woke up. I think about him every day and how he has missed me turning into a man and having a wife and children. My wife lost her father to cancer over 3 years period and she suffered for that. I think it is better to see a loved one pass suddenly than to see them suffer, although it still hurts to lose them at all.

I’ve seen several interviews with, Matt, and he really articulates himself extremely well. I cannot imagine losing my mom at such a young age, though she did pass two years ago, 4 weeks shy of her 80th birthday.

He may not have cried but he is definitely affected. He’s speaking about it in such a detached way that you can tell it’s his mind’s way of disassociating his consciousness from the reality and full magnitude of the loss. It would probably crush him if his psyche didn’t protect him in this way.

I feel the same for Matt. When my mother passed from cancer, I was being strong for everyone and I didn’t cry at the funeral. But I saw what it affected my siblings path. I my oldest brother passed from a OD and my sisters were a wreck. As for myself, it also devastated me to the point I almost went down a rabbit. Thank god I was able to keep my sanity. You never get over losing a parent, but as time goes on you learned to deal with it.

I applaud you, brother... You are a real man. When I say real, I mean, what you see is what you get with you. There's no facade. The fact that you're raising someone else's children and you're able to navigate that, & Maintain who you are & Still show respect To their biological father is Truly impressive. Your children, including your stepchildren, are lucky to have you. You're a good man!

When my mom died, my brother went into taking care of my dad. I told him if you don't grieve, when dad dies, you are going to grieve both deaths at the same time, and it is going to almost take you out of here. Sure enough, that is exactly what happened. My brother is doing better now, but it took years for him to accept both deaths

Being a step dad myself i completely understand Matt. My step son's are 13&14 now and I've been in there lives since they were 6&7 so i look at them like they're mine but they're still that line. My son is 12 and my daughter is 17 so my wife has had to deal with the same thing. It took some getting use to but we're all one big family now and we all love each other.
