Elegance and grace. Matt le tissier is one of the rare breeds. Easily comparable to the likes of zidane, baggio, bergkamp, cantona, laudrup etc in terms of flair and natural talent.
Summed him up perfectly there. People go on about his lack of ambition, I love how he stayed at Southampton his whole career. They were good to him and he respected that and in turn the fans got their moneys worth. Low key player/person who always had a cult following, world class on his day imo. I always looked forward to the Southampton games in the 90s just cos he would be playing. Same with shef wed and chrissy waddle. Both players could have a quiet game and then do something that would totally blow your mind and completely turn the game.
Yes, and Hoddle of all people didn't pick him for the world cup squad, after LeTissier scored a hat-tick in the England B team that was known to have been LeTissier's last chance to show what he can do. I will never forgive Hoddle for that bollx
The greatest British player ever, in my opinion. A humble and loyal man. He could have earned far more money and caps - but he was one of the few who stayed true to a small club. He shows his wisdom and class as a human being even more now by passionately defending truth, democracy, real science, honesty and people’s free will and health against evil oligarchic totalitarian forces. He is, thereby, far far greater than England’s finest ever footballer! More than just a legend -a true hero. Dear Matt - thank you for everything - and God bless you!
Exactly right, saw him at a show and he was brilliant, It was like a night with all your "conspiracy" mates, but of course they are not conspiracies any more lol.
He was definitely one of the best but I think he just wasn't fit enough, whether that was natural or he just couldn't be arsed I dunno? But we were lucky to see him play and Southampton fans who were there are privileged. Legend 👌
@@stuntmanmike6330 with a reel like this ... and you reckon he wasn't fit enough. Even if true ... who needs fitness when you can dribble, volley, 1/2 volley, head and score like this. I say that if a club had 6 of these in a side ... they'd be winning permanently whether they were "fit" or not. Talent trumps fitness ..
@@stevel9914People label players like this as lazy. They did the same to Berbatov. I think it comes from a subconscious jealousy over their ability. Like you said, he didn't need to exert himself, because he was head and shoulders above the rest in terms of skill.
I am a Napoli fan and have seen Maradona play and I am saying without any doubt that Le Tissier was just as gifted. There is not one footballer in history that is or was more talented than him. Unbelievable technical ability ! Absolutely ridiculous. Took the absolute piss out of professional footballers for 16 years every week !
The only reason Matt isn't mentioned in the same breath as the other greatest footballers of all time is that he played for Southampton and not one of the " big " clubs. I am a Newcastle United supporter but I am a lover of great football and I always applaud truly great players who had insane skills and used them to entertain ( as well as get results for their teams ) For me, Matt rates as highly as any player who has ever graced the beautiful game. On top of that, he's a top bloke as well.
Easy to say watching a highlight video. Harder to pick him when you’re watching live and see the 8 weeks between these goals where he’s waddling around the pitch, grossly out of condition, scratching his arse
@@HkFinn83i tell u what, i wouldnt mind waddling around and scratching my arse if i had the talent, ability and scored the incredible goals that Le Tissier did. A maverick genius, but i supose u always get bufoons who have to look at the beautiful game in a negative way.
@@HkFinn83 Read his stats you halfwit. A goal every 2.6 games. As a midfielder as well. You don't get in the PL 100 club scratching your ass. Especially playing for a club fighting relegation every year.
Great player. Almost all his goals are in the corner of the net. Top bottom left or right. And his penalty success rate 2nd to none. And he is a good human being.
i live in Guernsey and played against him every year as were the same age, when i was 11 there was a football challenge weekend, Emlyn Hughes came over to do it, Matt le Tissier ran rings around him, i remember Emlyn laughing and saying who the heck is this kid? He was unbelievably gifted even at a very young age.
The grace of Zidane with the ability of Maradona and an eye for goals like Pele. The perfect player, He could score with his left, His right and head. He was that good.
Ronaldo or Messi do this and it’s front page news, it’s a crime people of today don’t know how good Matt Le Tissier was. And he didn’t have Mbappe, Iniesta, Xavi, Neymar and co around him. He had 10 bang average players on his team and he did it himself. I paid my ticket price just to see this man play, we love him in Southampton, absolute legend.
The two goals he scored at Blackburn,he told his ex saints teammate tim flowers where he was going to score before the match and hit two 30 yarder rockets .....sublime but never cocky ever, very humble.
People said he lacked ambition but if I was a player I'd choose to have a Compilation video like this 25 years after retiring than a full trophy cabinet from being a fringe player at a huge club
He wouldnt have been a fringe player. He could have been at least what Berbatov or Sherignham was. He was as technical as Cantona just not as aggressive.
Venables was just as bad. They both made many mistakes during their tenure. Not just with Le Tissier but also Gazza. They had the stupid mindset just to field a team of limited Grafters. I was so disgusted with the England national team during the 90's it was pathetic.
Football now doesn’t allow players like this. Individual artists expressing themselves. Nonchalant flicks chips etc. It’s coached out of them. Today it’s just athletes pressing the shit outta each other for 90 mins. I miss football from this era 🤦♂️
Its absolutely criminal that this man did get 100 caps for England. The team should have been built around him. As a spurs fan I have nothing but love for Matt !
Le Tissier was a G, I was always rooting for him. But no they gave him a game before the 98 World Cup, scores a hatrick, and they still didn't let him in the England squad.
Yesterday: I get to know this guy watching this and other video. My jaw dropped. Then I look out his career. It's an tremendous absurd that we was caped so few times for England. How the English managers do not valued a gem like this? If he was born here in Brazil, he would be a national treasure.
If you watched him live like I did you would realise why he only achieved 8 caps and no transfer to the big boys. Bags of skill but a lazy overweight git, if you were in the trenches you wouldn't want him at your side. Very good on match of the day highligts for armchair fans!
@@polaris7122 Overweight maybe but lazy no. He did what he was good at. He would still be on on the training field practicing penalties and free kicks long after others had gone home.
@@SuperChalkster hahaha that's why Kendal, Ferguson, Dalglish, Moran, Souness, Graham, Wilkinson, Wenger, wouldn't touch him with a barge-pole. Guess what they all have in common, they all won the first division, or the Prem, and didn't want your so called superstar anywhere near their teams, because they know football inside out and don't just watch match of the day highlights, unlike you and the rest of the armchair fans on here. I rest my case proven winners opinions verses the losers on here!! Hahahahahahah
Absolutely amazing dribbling and shooting technique. he is not doubt the English Maradona, but one that hardly anyone has ever heard about - The engish fan never revered him despite being way above the pack in his generation and beyond. If he had played in Spain his techinique would have been very much appreciated like Zizou's, with whom he shares some similarities. Thanks Mr. Le Tissier for all that artistry! - :)
You are stating absolute facts. 💯 English fans only appreciate ones that 'work hard', get stuck in and are full of passion. This is exactly why England never win any major competitions. One recent example is how players like Grealish and Sancho hardly featured in Euro 2020. And lo and behold, England lost in the final.
@@Sajangrg69 couldn't agree with you more.... :) Having played both in Spain & England at lower levels, you can see the clear difference in the styles. Some think running and heading a lot is more effective & entertaining, but not moi :'*
Le God always said he liked being a big fish in a small pond and never wanted to leave Southampton, it’s very hard to be considered with the greats when you haven’t achieved the highest awards
I could watch this all day, he made the game beautiful. The English national team missed the boat, you can't win trophies unless you pick match winners. If Matt had been born in Brazil we'd be talking about him in the same league as Pele and the fat druggie from Argentina. I watched football for over 60 years, even played a bit, I saw George Best, Law, Charlton live on those weekends when my beloved Bury FC (RIP) were away. In terms of skill I'd put Le Tiss right up there with prime Best. As you can guess I'm a huge admirer, not just for his skill but for his loyalty.
this is why football is incredible, seeing players who can perform feats that we can't comprehend, football is losing is in danger of losing its mavericks, fitness, strength and speed are stifling talent
Hahaha yes I could have torn up that midfield, there's more to football than looking good on match of the day. I watched him live and he was one lazy git.
He apparently was Xavi's favourite player. Xavi said something like he does what I do but I have to run to do it he just walks and wins (cannot remember the exact words used but it went something like that)
Pre Injury Ronaldo Nazario, LeTissier, Gullit and Rijkaard make it look so easy, like playin against lil kids. Really overpowerd, players. No one else gives me that impression. P.S.: The music is flawless also
Amazing how the great players just seem so relaxed and at ease while doing unbelievable things on a football pitch. He hardly looks like he is trying but everything is so perfect, like it is choreographed almost
The reason I became a Southampton fan all those years ago. We've never played the beautiful game quite as beautiful since he retired. Boy do we need him now.!!!!!
Football in general is bereft of players of his quality ( And Matt was doing all of his Magic with the old true Leather Ball,on rough Pitches, with players seriously attempting to stop him,by any means necessary) And as a footballer he was a combo of a Artist and Master Craftsman!
Ridiculously underrated ! Pure talent and skills and the way he runs and his posture ( very deceiving ) great dribbling, passes and some rare whiping shots that are a joy to see !! Just showed him to an Egyptian friend who appreciates football in that Era n he blew his mind and he has never heard of him !!
Theres atleast 3 Puskas awards in this short video. If he played for a bigger club (no disrespect) he would have all sorts of titles. Hes always in my top 5 English all time players. Seems like Gerrard and Lampard mixed together with a sprinkle of Zidane
Had a video of his goals to the music of EMF you're unbelievable song,Messi said he used to watch match of the day so he could admire Matty,I grew up during Matty's reign wonderful memories.
What a player. If he’d had a little more pace he’d have been as good as George Best. There’s nobody playing in the Premier League these days anywhere near as exciting to watch as Le Tissier was back in the day.
This is true. Legend as a player back then, a legend today pushing back against the Bolshevik globalists who want us to eat bugs, own nothing and be happy!
@@marknewbold2583 I understand the reality and people like you who implicitly trust Government are the ones living the delusion. Only when it affects you directly, will you acknowledge what's happening. Agenda 21 is real. Read the WEF's plans and you'll know what I'm talking about. Try to find footage of what happened in countries like China, New Zealand, Australia, Holland, Germany and Austria in 2021 and you'll understand. Just don't believe what you see on television - it's propaganda setting society up for a massive humanity fall.
The only two English players who ever excited me for their flair and technique were Gazza and Le Tiss. It feels a little tragic that Matt was not valued more. I feel like in England anyone who demonstrated skill over physique and "graft" was immediately written off as lazy and not a team player. Think how many times over the years England desperately needed a moment of inspiration in an important match, and imagine having Matt on the bench. Even if he didn't start, he would have been my first name on the squad for any tournament.
And wasn't it poetic justice that the finest player to play at the Dell scored the last goal at the Dell. But the thing that gets on my nerves is that Matthew Le Tissier only got 8 CAPS for England. One of the best ever players to grace the Premiere League only got 8 CAPS for England. Yes I understand that if he had moved to another club he might have won more caps. But you cannot force a player to move if he doesn't want to. And if he had got more caps England would have won more World Cups and European Championships if he was given more caps.
He preferred Paul Scholes, all u can say is put Paul Scholes in that Southampton team and see how he does, le tissier kept them up year after year fantastic talent.
