Actor Matthew McConaughey spoke at the White House press briefing after meeting with lawmakers on Capitol Hill about gun reform legislation. #CNN #News
Where he comes from these days, is Hollywood. How many people has McConaughey simulated killing in violent ways with guns, to solve a problem in his movies? Does he have no self awareness that he, and people like him, might be a significant reason for the problem of so many young and impressionable young people getting the idea that shooting people can solve your problems? Probably not. Nah, we just need another law.
"God bless him" - I'm so freaking sick of that stupid phrase. Your make believe friend looks down on humankind and allows Uvalde to occur, could have stopped it (all powerful right?) but didn't. Now you want him to bless a man for emotionally speaking about the situation after the fact. What, the actual fuck, does "god bless him" actually fucking mean?
@@jamedparker690 Agree to disagree. Especially from a person (forget the fact that he's a celebrity for a second) who is actually from UVALDE and is using his influence for GOOD. Imagine that? Jaded much?
I agree -- it's the far right and far left that are dividing us along with certain politicians that care more about power than the American people. Gullible people aren't helping as well - those that believe the lies of politicians and don't research for truth. The majority of us are in the middle and want the same things.
I loved that he said ALL of their names at the end. They deserve for their names and stories to live on! May they Rest In Peace. Thank you Matthew for your powerful and impactful words.

The way he said that as soon as he heard, he packed Camille and the kids up in the car and drove to Ulvade. Then he spoke to all of the families. Using his platform for good and using his heart to help others. The humility is unbelievable. What an incredible man. What an incredible family. ❤️
Yep, as soon as he heard, he stopped working on some movie where he was pretending to shoot people for our entertainment, and reinforcing the idea that shooting people with guns to solve your problems is a good way of handling things, to come tell us that shooting people with guns is a bad idea and we need another law to stop that from happening.
@@ralphholiman7401 hmmmm. I don't recall him having a gun in his new movie Gold. He done more than what your ass done though huh? He isn't to blame for glamourising guns. Look at your local officials and your government. You may find the answers there. I live in the UK and gun crime is on the rise here but nothing like the US. The people who do legally have guns here have to account for every bullet the gun must be locked up. The police inspect the gun and the access people have to it regularly.. Him as a native of that town I appreciate his voice in what he's done to try to help those families in his hometown. Powerful and commendable. Hardest gut shot I've had in a long time.
He was spot on with everything he said. I admire celebrities who use their celebrity to do good. Like Matthew, like Sean Penn and John Stewart. They don't have to do this stuff. They could be doing anything, anywhere in the world. Not bother with the very real issues in our country. I appreciate them. Thank you, Matthew and Camilla.
Thanks for sharing and how are you doing? well your profile got me overwhelmed and stunning,i would really love to chat with you if you don't mind ,GOD bless you have a nice day.
Most truthful words I have heard in a long time. They really jumped out at me and I hope they jumped out at some of the politicians he was was referring to.
The politicians need to change but THE PEOPLE, THE VOTERS need to change too!!! If politicians wouldn't get reelected by enabling murderers they would STOP DOING DO! I'm sitting here, across a fucking ocean, with tears rolling downy damn eyes over these Innocent children and their devastated families. How could anyone be more concerned about holding on to a piece of machinery that has been designed to kill, rather than putting all their power into SAVING CHILDREN. In my country SCHOOLS ARE SAFE, no need for guards or one way doors or any of that. Parents leave their children at school and are certain they will be able to pick them up in the afternoon. I'm literally weeping just thinking how broken my father would be had he come to my school only to see my lifeless tiny body with my bright blonde hairs blooded on a school floor. There are some things so essential to run a society that anything that stands in their way can only be seen as a luxury to get rid of.
My heart goes out to all families of the victims. I didn't know one child there and yet I still cried for them and felt my heart break as I thought about it more and more. God bless you all and hopefully one day this world will learn to embrace life more rather than destroy it. 🙏
I’ve lost a child-you are never the same. You walk around with a black hole in your heart for the rest of your life. Please vote in politicians who care! 🙏 Please vote.
God keep you well. I don't know how you manage. As a human with a heart, I can only lend you some of that heart to help you through the day. We're all connected.
@Corys Channel Jesus can heal that black hole in your heart... read God's Word with the faith of a child and then trust Jesus... and then you would no longer feel it necessary to seek fulfillment by politicizing sin for the sake of your pride. God hates pride. You can read my other posting on this video for additional information that hopefully will help you be reconciled to God as a new creation in Christ Jesus.
He is so connected to each and every single one of those victims. He took the time to speak and understand each family as people and not a statistic. He didnt go as some big movie star but as a compassionate human being.
@@rue1x25 Yes, he is an actor, that is his career/job, had nothing to do with this speech, was honest, clear, and HUMAN, can't say that about a TV reality hack!
I can't even imagine the pain and gut wrenching grief these families are feeling. My heart aches for them. I'm so angered by our selfish politicians and citizens who care more about themselves, than fixing this problem. Thank you Matthew, for your efforts on behalf of the slain precious children, and school staff.
exactly, well said. In any other country gun control isnt a political issue, its just a common sense thing that you dont sell semi-automatic rifles to civilians, cause this is the result :(
Ibagree buti think every citizen of the United States needs to help in some way or form to figure out someway to help strengthen gun control or laws changing somehow... do i know of any single way to do ANYTHING TO HELP OR CHANGE ALMOST DAILY SHOOTINGS???!!!??? I've always admired the way this man can take an issue, examine all sides of it, find common points of agreement, and draw corrolaries between those points that make sense. He's, without question, a gifted actor. But he's also a gifted analyst and speaker. To those in power, I implore you please, listen to him.
As a mom, to a 2nd grader, in the US- I’ve cried every day since this happened in Uvalde. I’m tired of it. We need change, NOW. No more kids sh0t at school. NOT. ONE. MORE.
And the teachers, teachers aids, Substitute teachers, cafeteria staff, janitors, bus drivers, office staff and all the administrators in the school system are very tierd, afraid and worried.
This is not a gun control problem. This is a government incompetence problem. We should force police officers to focus on protecting schools instead of writing damn traffic tickets. Stop making gun free zones easy targets.
I am a 42 year old Army veteran. I had my first child 3 years ago. At this point and time I can not imagine letting her go to school with the way things stand now. I do not want the grieve that those parents have. If we have to ban guns, or make it more difficult for people to obtain them I will support. We are losing our children over an object. We are losing our children over a fear that our own government is out to get us. My child is more important than that. Thank you Mr. McConaughey for taking the lead on this. I really hope we get things better before she is old enough for school. I would not be able to bear losing her that way.
He didn’t say to ban guns, he said to protect the Second amendment and make changes. There are so many changes that can be made and it seems changing the age from 18 to 21 is good and adding Security is great
He gave a wonderful speech. You could hear the emotion, the heartbreak and anger in his voice. Even when he kept tapping the wood, you could see it just how shaken up he was.
I am so grateful and appreciative that Matthew came forward to say these things for these children who don't have a voice anymore. Gritted teeth and tears, I am writing this now and just praying that if anything gets through to these lawmakers and people in charge, that this speech is what does it. I don't know what kind of cold hearted and uncaring person you have to be to listen to this entire speech without feeling moved by it. Hell even I feel like driving to Texas and helping these families. I don't know why it's weighing so heavy on me but it hurts as if I had lost one of my own. But that's just it, I can't even imagine what these parents and family members are going through right now. As soon as he said AR-15 and mortuary in the same as sentence, talking about little babies who just started their lives, not that I hadn't been crying through the entire thing but that was what sent me over the edge. I'm so angry. They changed laws about cigarettes. You have to be 16 to operate motor vehicle in 21 to buy cigarettes and beer but you can be 18 and buy a semi-automatic with practically no training or background checks and it's completely legal. Not to mention the police officers that were standing outside ignoring family members yelling at them. It's not like they were doing anything anyway they could have consoled those people, calmed them, helped them. Hell if I was there I would hope that a police officer would let me run in there if they weren't going to. Cuz that Mama got her two babies out of there while every single one of them stayed back. They know what they're getting themselves into. They know they're putting their lives on the line but yet they were far too cowardly. I wonder if those gunshots still ring in their ears while they sat back and scolded him and told him they just want to talk instead of rushing in there and risking their own lives, lives already well lived, to give those babies a chance. So they could be heroes and self-sacrifice. Instead they just did back for more than an hour and I assume most of the children were out by then except for the ones that... This really is tearing me apart and I wish there was something I could do but I am so very grateful that there was someone high up enough that people would take serious that was from that small town. I really hope that this beach has gotten them talking. He did an excellent job at delivering this in such a way that it just really makes you mentally visualize each one of these children as more than just number one through 19 or names on a cross that should never have been there in the first place.
He really did! It took me a while to tune in and watch because I thought it would be craving for attention, but it was truly heart felt! Heck, I'll vote for him if he runs for the presidency!

The most profound speech I have heard on this issue thank you for honoring these victims in a way that no one else has . We aren't as divided. People talking civil war if they take my guns...blah blah blah. We need peace and togetherness. The Dems and Republicans want division. This shits been going on since columbine. Let's fix this shit show together
We the common folks are not as divided however some the political elite want to rule us common folks with an iron fist. We can't let that happen. What ever it takes. And once guns are removed from common law abiding tax paying citizens we are up for takeover by our own government. Don't for a second think it wouldn't happen. What happened in Uvalde is horrible and evil. I find it interesting that so many criminal types prey or target children. Doesn't matter it's a school shooting, child sex trafficking, child porn, pedophilia, some LBGTQ . It all targets children, our most innocent in society. That my friend, first and foremost is evil, the pure fact you target innocent children. Guns are just the quickest way to carry out as much evil as possible as fast as possible. No one talks about pedophilia or child sex trafficking Why because it dark, nasty, heinous and pure evil. When people won't talk about an issue you can't expect to fix it. The same time this story came out there was a story of an elderly woman in her house by herself and a man approached her door to break in. She warned him several times she had a gun and he broke in and kept coming, she shot him. He didn't die and is in the hospital. People don't forget we have to protect our homes and our loved ones. Our country is in this position because we have taken so much of God in Jesus Christ out of our country and schools. We are paying the price for this decision. We took God out of our schools approx 60 years ago. Maybe we should God back in our lives more and allow prayer in our schools for 60 years as an experiment. We've expremented with the more liberal idelogy for 60 years lets try a more conservative idealogy for 60 years and compare stats. Personally I would love to be here for the results.

McConaughey was considering running for governor of Texas. I wish he'd decided to do so. He'd be a great improvement over the man currently in that office.
If he did run for governor, he is a religious man...who will he serve...man made laws or God's laws...Jesus said give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and give to God what belongs to God... can't serve both... Jesus served God and the cancel culture of His time crucified Him...to be a politician, it is clearly not to obey God's laws....MM would have to make a choice...but since he didn't run for governor...clearly he has chosen GOD and uses his clout to make public awareness speeches. Usually when a President talks about Americans that have died or who they have met it feels very politically motivated. A speech that was probably written for them with no emotion when read. That's directed to former Presidents from either party. McConaughey's speech was the most genuine and real thing that came from that podium in a very long time. Mental health, family values, American values, setting aside political motivations... It's going to take someone like Matthew to turn this country around from the divided and tense mess that we are in. If you think that he is being fake then go listen to when Joe Rogan interviewed him in 2020 and he talked about his love for Austin, Texas. The guy has a big heart.
I believe some of the speeches are real and heartfelt but their hands are often tied by politics of their own party or those who hold the power to prevent new laws especially those who are enjoying the blood money they receive from the NRA. The only one I believe who would have felt nothing nor give a care is the previous piece of crap. The others regardless of party would be shattered making another one of these tragic evil unnecessary speeches. I expect they too cry like many of us feeling helpless, the weight & gravity of all these babies being slaughtered.
That's what you project onto the speech for seriously superficial reasons, you really should work on your self awareness. Your reasoning for preferring this man, who has given ONE speech, is beyond pathetic and embarrassing. You literally know NOTHING about this person and his politics so you can project whatever you little fantasy you have onto him. Grow up. People like you are the reason our party is in the toilet.
You know what I owe an apology to Matthew McConaughey because in my mind I thought just another actor trying to capitalize on something but watching this press conference he did yes I know he's an actor and all that but I can see his anguish his pain and his real self not some fake you know being a movie star on a scene thing so I believe that he truly is saddened I'm not just being an actor this time
He's got heart. This is what I like to think our state is made of. We don't see eye to eye on everything BUT you know you're dealing with good people more often than not. He's very sincere. Our state leadership should be ashamed of how hollow their response has been. It's mortifying how cold and unmoved they've been.
Rips your heart out. This is so good to hear the kids being talked about as individuals. Breaks the heart, also details just what gems we lost. To greed. Greedy politicians, greedy gun manufacturers. What a waste. .
@@tjmiller6159 well a bomb does require some pre-planning so you don’t blow yourself up with the kids…unless you would like to be a suicide bomber. Also, these shooters are wanting to see first hand when they decapitate a little child with the AR 15. They don’t get that turn on with a bomb. So I don’t believe that’s a valid argument. There’s a perverse pleasure they’re seeking and it won’t be sated by an IED. My husband says the same as you but I think he’s all wet too. One thing has been proven, countries that have gun control don’t have mass shootings. Maybe one….like New Zealand. They had one mass shooting, and promptly bought all the guns back and destroyed them. Magically, no more mass shootings. Let’s own this thing. It’s one of the few things the USA does better than any other country.
Thank you Mathew, your wife and children. Thank you for bringing these terrible, heartbreaking stories to the White House. I just hope and pray that you got through to the people that have to help this country. Thank you for taking your time to present this terrible act of violence to them. Something has got to be done. Our children should never have to go through this. Just thank you from the bottom of my heart.
The true issue is a lack on respect for human life by some, the few, not the majority. When did we lose the respect for the value of life? How heartbreaking and felt
I live all the way on the west coast, California. This incident has been bothering me so much. 19 babies and two awesome teachers. don’t know what to say. 😢
Thank you so much Matthew for speaking for those whose voices were silenced. Every life matters. Regardless of skin color economic status educational background etc etc etc even the ones still being formed in the womb matter... I hope we can all remember this.
To Matthew McConaughey: WOW...... you're really a wonderful caring person. I watched you speaking with growing tears in my eyes. You really brought the victims alive again, one more time. To the parents: my sincere condoleances for missing your loved ones, I cannot imagine how this must feel. It is all so unfair... And to the "politicians" who do not support the people by refusing to make sensible gun laws: you should be so ashamed of yourself !! History will tell upon you all.
He is saying what everyone has been saying. Enough with it always being Republican vs Democrat, and Liberals vs. Conservatives. The foundation of our government was not for one side to rise above the other, but to have a group of people come together who have different opinions and understandings and outlooks to figure out an issue together. Obviously, this points out how not every group is represented. Guess what; that can easily be fixed. Do the work that Matthew did and go to these places and talk with these people. Not for your own political gain, but to understand who you’re fighting for. Stop making each election about adding another number in your political party’s ranks and trying to outweigh the other party. Our government was not put in place to benefit only one political party. It’s to find the middle ground, and the solution to the issue. Not only that, it’s about the people! It is sad that so many innocent lives have to be lost in order for some of our elected officials to even glance in that direction. And for it to happen so many times too. Again, to all elected officials I doubt you would even care to read the comment section of a RU-vid video, but making reformations is not going to loose you your election. Stop making that your main concern. Your main concern should be on making sure innocent lives are not lost.
Although I mostly agree with your sentiments about everyone working together, the fact remains that this is almost totally the fault of the Republican party. They are in bed with the gun lobby and are basically at their mercy. They’re also scared to death of the ultra right MAGA gun crowd who would vote them out, in a heartbeat, if they ever tried to put restrictions on guns.
Matthew gave a very touching emotional speech, and I hope for those sweet little darlings their dreams come true in a great way I saw some of those kids and talk about so cute they were little dolls sweet ones humble your breaks and for the precious adults greiving parents & relatives I pray God gives you a great peace and comfort of your life times and thank you Matthew you did something
Beautiful speech! Very strong man talking about these children and teachers... I wouldn't be able to be so together speaking of this. So proud he is using his fame to stand behind his hometown community as a father and husband. Good values! God bless him
Thank you Matthew - more people with the same platform who are able to speak to those in charge of making change should also speak on behalf of these angels we lost. Fly high sweet baby angels. 😞
Not crazy about this guy, but I respect him. He walked the walk on this day. This is action. This is leadership. This was an act by someone w/ values, someone valuing their community and not just re-election like he said. I am humbled.
@@patriciafoster3347 They have the right to preface their comment as they like. They were saying "I'm not some obsessed, biased fan." Maybe they don't usually care for him, but wanted to express how much this speech cut through their feelings. If anything, that phrase makes it more meaningful because they probably aren't quick to compliment him. That just shows how powerful he was here.
What are you talking about? Democrats have been trying for years on both floors to get laws changed to protect people. They aren’t standing in the way,
