ATTENTION: THIS VIDEO IS ONLY A SMALL SECTION OF A MUCH LARGER VIDEO FOR TRAINING LAW ENFORCEMENT. DO NOT TAKE WHAT YOU SEE HERE OUT OF CONTEXT, AND CHECK OUT THE LINKS LISTED BELOW BEFORE COMMENTING IN A NEGATIVE MANNER.
Matthew, the original Enigma, participating in making a Law Enforcement Training Video with the Coral Gables Police Department on how to interact with individuals with ASD and related developmental disorders. Created by Dennis Debbaudt,

Ok, my stepson has Asperger’s and is highly functional but has a severe stutter. When he goes for a walk he knows where he is and where he is going. He likes watching videos with earphones on. Cops surrounding him will make him very nervous and is uncalled for. Absolutely no reason to ID him or go through his wallet. The officers are pretty polite in this video but that doesn’t justify going through personal property. My stepson is 25 now and my wife and we taught him to be as independent as possible. He manages his own money, pays his bills, cleans the house without anyone asking him to do so. He is the most pleasant person I know to anyone. He doesn’t like being questioned by strangers nor touched.

It's not required to show ID for pacing a sidewalk anyhow. It's a public place he had every right to be in. He didn't threaten or communicate with anyone. Who calls in these sort of things? They never go out to see if the person is ok?

Do not take this section of video out of context. all situations are unique and you watch the entire video your comments here would be different. The whole purpose of this video was that the two officers had lil to no training in communicating with someone who has a developmental disorder. The narrator does point out the flaws. In the rest of the training video there are more interactions and how interactions should be.The section of the video I have posted "provided to us was not final cut" is the opening interaction of the training video and should be viewed as such. I left links to where you may watch the entire Training Video. I can't post entire video due to copy write.

Lol what crummy training! People wandering from care homes are often non verbal non confrontational and often self harm. They rarely ever have ID and rarely tell a name. If you approach them and they don't know you, they become agitated and become aggressive. These officers are training people to utterly fail.
