Well, it could be argued that the French didn't belong in Vietnam, but in that case, we'd have no Bahn Mi (or their contents) to argue about...

Thank god the French Colonized my country so you can have a white guy reinvent our food and call it traditional. The point is the French didn't invent the Banh Mi. They inspired a culture to develop a sandwich based on french food that the culture called "Bahn Mi". So if you want to step away from the original and add some new ideas to something, call it something else and say it's inspired by. Don't say that is Bahn Mi. Also, "..." is only used to connect two points, not at the end of one.

Your culture was wrapping delicious fillings into starch based wrappings long before those assholes came along, the Bahn Mi was just a different medium. As to whether what Matty made is in fact a Bahn Mi, c'mon, aside from the freshly cooked pork (and the Hoisin, which seems like a logical fit), it's fairly standard. Your assertion is a bit like saying, for example, that the addition of bacon renders a burger no longer a burger. Not true. I think what you're upset about is the white guy.

Wouldn't make sense to add jalapenos with the spicy vietnamese style hot pepper sauce he added. That will fill the role that it plays and there is still plenty of crunch in the sandwich from the pickled veggies. Remember the title says this is his version so he has mixed things around so getting hung up over authenticity or a single ingredient is a lil silly.

That's a pretty redundant thing to say.
