‘’ Not limited to the summer months “. This is the time of year we have them. Usually from Oct thru the winter. Tiger sharks mate as well as give birth this time of year, the females are hungry and go hunting for turtles close to shore. The water is also dirty from the rain storms. They don’t call it Sharktober without reason. If you are a tourist and see the shoreline water is dirty then I would not get in. Not saying it does not happen in clear waters but the tiger sharks use the dirty waters as camouflage when they hunt. In the winter you get the best waves in my opinion, so every surfer knows the risk but it does not make the story less tragic. Maui leads the Hawaiian islands in shark attacks and is one of the worlds leaders in shark attacks, Florida is number 1 , South Africa and Australia then Maui depending on the year.
Anyone can look up the fatal shark attacks on Wikipedia. The majority of fatal attacks are Nov, Dec, JANUARY, Feb, Mar, April.... I didn't see a single Oct....."Sharktober," Research......
@jacobr4558 43,000 died in motor vehicle accidents in the U.S.A. just last year ALONE. Sure..... more people drive than swim is salt water. I've worked in a trauma ER...... Let me tell you this. A motor vehicle accident is a VIOLENT event that is equally as devastating as any shark. It's like comparing being hit in the head by a wooden baseball bat or an aluminum bat with a steroided up MLB player swinging. NO DIFFERENCE. So buckle up. "Honk if you love Jesus. Text and drive if you want to meet Him."..... Or, in my case, His not so friendly Friend.
he was beyond cool. he was my friend. we both worked at timberline. on mt hood. ski resort. the lodge from the shining movie. i knew him for 18 or so years. we seen each other out snowboarding all the time. and at all the company parties. i moved to illinois a few years ago after 20 years there. he moved to hawaii. now i saw this story yesterday. but it was a hour before i had to go to my aunts funeral. what a way to start the year. rip my bro.
@@BoratM.Sagdiev he died later surfing. not feeding shark. he didnt die scuba diving or snorkeling. it was just out surfing. he got attacked while surfing. not feeding sharks.

Sadly the only thing to investigate would be bite wounds to identify the species. You never know though, in today’s world you might find a District Attorney who will bring charges.
Saying condolences to the family on a RU-vid video helps no one, just empty words. There’s always an investigation anytime there is a death. You must be a kid 😅
@@eastwood111 LMAO you must be a trolling loser who thinks he's tough behind the keyboard. Go ahead tough guy and say where one can find you (work, home, hangouts) that way we'll definitely know you're a tough guy 👌🏽 🤣🤣🤣 go ahead now don't be shy...🤣🤣🤣
@@eastwood111condolences might be nothing to you but when I read of a family members death that was on RU-vid a couple years ago, seeing all the condolences and kind words really did make me feel alot better
I’m sorry this happened, condolences to the family, but surfing is a high risk activity in my opinion. Sometimes standing in knee deep water is risky because of bull sharks. It’s their domain.
@@riderpsychopatesurfing alone or in a group does not matter. We all know the risks. If a shark is in there it’s just the luck of the draw. Depends on a lot of factors. Just like someone driving and causing an accident even though you did everything right.
Don't get it 🤔🤷 people know the dangers of sharks 🦈 but they just won't acknowledge it and just keep doing what they're doing then something like this happens.
Never ski, swim, or surf alone to name only a few outdoor activities that are safer in groups. Especially the latter, because avalanches don't much care how many people they kill in a few seconds.
Can someone please explain to me because I don't understand I live in northern Michigan in the country. I have coyote packs that walk across my land I have black bear that walks across my land people watch their pets when they are outside and people don't go outside without bear spray or a firearm. So I never understood why someone would of their own free will would swim with shark's. I would really appreciate it if someone could explain. And to the family my condolences for your loss.
The film of him scuba diving wasn’t swimming with sharks. That’s their domain. There’s not much you can do but get out of the water. Of course you could be in a cage and just watching them because those steel bars are protecting you. Surfing is high risk. Anything in the ocean is risky because of predators, and sharks are the apex predator outside of killer whales that predate on sharks but leave humans alone.
There are a lot of people who believe 🦈 are not dangerous to people and LOVE to scuba dive and can safely swim with sharks. My daughter does it all the time and had training. She also lives in Maui. My condolences to this young man’s family. Rest in peace 🙏🏽❣️
@@starLaSane Some sharks are dangerous to people. Maui? Good luck with that. Ever watch Great Whites circling shark cages containing people? If they were in the open ocean, chances are the sharks would take a bite to see if it’s something they would like to eat and therein lies the problem. But by all means do what you will, but don’t believe that sharks aren’t dangerous to people: great whites, tiger sharks, bull sharks, oceanic white tips are dangerous to people. The USS Indianapolis sunk during WW11 and hundreds of men were killed by sharks. It is what it is.
I’m terrified of sharks!!! But only in a water situation. If I saw one of the street corner, I’d just be like: “what’s up shark?!? What are you looking at?!?”
Ongoing investigation??? Why?? Going to question the shark on why it ate someone dumb enough feed it with their own body?? Sounds like a waste of resources to me.
The exact number of sharks killed each year is unknown due to multiple factors at play, such as overfishing and pollution. However, The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) states commercial fishing kills over 100,000,000 sharks annually. They also estimate that up to 273,000,000 sharks are killed each year.
Sorry for the guy, good that he lived with passion ,better that than not living. I dont think the shark should go on trial, where does one find an interpreter if the judge asks what the shark why he did it ?
@@ryann6234 it is if you don’t swim in open water yes. If you do, chances go up. And sharks attacks are on the increase in the last few years. Probably due to human overfishing forcing sharks into shallower waters.
Can't we humans just be civil to everybody? Why do the tongues lash out? Respect the fact that a young man has died! don't we all climb in our cars every day? We don't know if we will see the sun coming up the next day...shame on all of you that has something nasty to add to the already sad situation...
@@lisamoore9523Stupid is as stupid does often is the cause of car “accidents”, whether it is driving in an altered state of mind, ie: (lack of sleep, while angry, sad), a lack of proper maintenance of a vehicle, distracted driving or the consumption of mind altering substances which includes, alcohol, prescription drugs or illegal drugs. In the case of Tiger shark or Great White shark or Bull shark attacks, it is all preventable. These dangerous instinctual predators will be deterred only by one thing, the scent of their liver oil in the water and they will not be in the vicinity of the source of their kinds liver oil for miles and miles. The idea that we need to protect every single one of these non-endangered fish is lost on me.
doesn't matter what youre doing, you enter a realm where we aren't the apex predator. do you think cows would be happy knowing their whole life has just been for milk and their meat? you can't live your life in happy ignorant bliss forever. it's unfortunate but it's also life, sometimes when we leave this world it isn't pretty, no matter how bright and happy your soul is.
It's not hard to explain. The population of sharks exploded in places that banned culling of sharks. Turtles, dolphins and birds decline. It's a one in a million chance but if you go into a shark infested water it becomes a one in a hundred chance even worse like Panama might be a one a dozen.
I feel for her loss. Although you cannot say swimming with sharks and surfing with sharks isn't reckless!!!! Do you realize the number of shark attacks.....
False.. only one death. Get ur facts straight. Saturday's attack was the only deadly shark encounter in Hawaii in 2023, though there have been more than a half dozen incidents involving sharks in Hawaii this year, according to the state's Department of Land and Natural Resources.
Every time you float out on a surfboard in the ocean you are offering yourself to the sharks. This is no surprise. You should expect to be food for a hungry shark every single time. They test everything to determine if it's food. RIP to the surfer. Condolences to his friends and family.
Uh no. You don't "expect it". If you did, you wouldn't go out in the water, and if you never went in the water you'd miss out on an incredible aspect of life. Intimate interaction with the ocean. I LOVE to swim in the ocean. Been swimming, surfing, boogeyboarding for nearly 50 years. I LOVE being in the ocean. And while the notion of being attacked enters the mind on rare occasion, it's pushed aside by 'I'm not so special" and "I don't want THE FEAR keep me from doing what i love.
not at all true lol sharks often bite because they are territorial and aggressive, Bull Sharks are a perfect example of this. And often times Sharks like great whites simply bite out of curiosity because they don’t know what you are, but a curiosity bite from a white shark is enough to shred a human being like it’s nothing.
It’s also supply versus demand. Meaning that there’s way more shorts out of the water now because of conservationists. Sadly, we will see way more of this know that that is being said in the future. :-(
@thatguyjoe007 I always wonder why people make this kind of comment. As nobody knows if the shark next to you is hungry or not, you need to be careful anyway, don't you ?! And if a shark attacks, you will be injured or die and the shark will not care if you complain: But you weren't hungry..! There are no rules in wild animals' world. Maybe statistics/possibilities/ chances, but they aren't going to save your life
im so very sorry. I myself wouldnt get in the water because i know theres always the risk of a shark attack i just wouldnt. im not sure i really understand the fascination with water ocean sports or recreation.Just stick to a swimming pool. Im not the least bit interested in diving or expploring the ocean floor
Whaaaaaaat???? He wasn’t doing anything reckless! Most people think surfing in shark infested waters IS RECKLESS! You have taken a bump or two to your head! Duh!! Only thing worse, a Grizzly attack. Takes longer!
Too many people are dying because the sharks are protected! Human life is worth more than a shark. Time for a reduction in numbers,,I will never go to Hawaii as I dont want that to happen to me! Bet that poor guy thought it would never happen to him.
Fairly sure this is bait, but even so, shark numbers are as low as they have ever been. When you venture into the wilderness, which includes the oceans, you should know the risks. And considering this guy was a surfer, he more than most knew what his risks were.
Humans take out over a HUDRED MILLION sharks every year. You can’t be too upset the sharks get one every once in a while. It’s still pretty good odds for a human.
I just read a comment of a person who was in her teens and had huffed to get high from the highly compressed air cans we use to clean our key boards. She wants them banned because of her choice that didnt turn out well. your post is about as bad.
No sympathy. No empathy. No feeling bad. He knew there were sharks down there. He went anyway. He put his mother's child on the menu. No tears for him. Many tears for his family.
I don't think it was a shark, it was most likely a laser beam. Just talk to all the Maui residents who do not understand that the wildfire was caused by wind, they know everything.
