The fact that there were actual people who had the absolute balls to attempt a restoration for the Maus is just bending reality for me... sure it would've been any mechanical engineer's wet dream to see this thing working, but it would've also been their worst nightmare.

My guess is that they realized that the surviving Maus on display is basically the hull and all the insides is gone. The Chieftain's inside the hatch series shows what it looks like on the inside and it's quite empty.

@@GrumpyIan The Russians have a complete blueprint of the Maus actually (it wasn't lost in the first place), since they were the ones who captured it after the war and actually have restored it themselves before when the turret was transferred to a replacement hull (refer to the wiki). It would just come down to fabricating new parts, albeit if money was no object.

@@f.m.f962 It's actually harder than you might think. You may have the blueprints, you may have the hull, but the manufacturing processes from the '40s and '50s are largely forgotten, and there's tons of nuance required to make a prototype work. If reviving a dead design was so easy, NASA would be remaking Werner Von Braun's F1 rocket engines. They tried, and it didn't work because the tech and production processes were so archaic and no one knew the unwritten secrets of how to make it work.

Hey Ash, the reason why the engine is an inverted V-Type engine is, that is an aircraft engine. It is basically a modified DB 603 liquid cooled 12 cylinder inverted V-type engine with 44,5l of displacement. The Version of the maus MB 603 has a reduced compression ratio and thus lower power than the aircraft engine.

fun fact: the engine is a diamler benz MB 509, a ground version of the DB 603, and had 1,200hp with a displacement of 44.5 litres.

3000-4000 hours is really underselling the amount of work needed to restore the maus in real life, it took years to restore a panther and they made thousands of those

Well for an average restoration yes that number accurately describe any given process and procedures. This was just a generalisation for example.

But there is one tank that are so heavy the name is P 1000 RAT it's the heaviest and the biggest tank ever build made in Germany WW2 and it didn't build because there is no factory to made one so it cancelled and when it's build it's a easy target for bomber

There is a few reason that no one restoring: + The cost would get you hunted by the goverment. + The time it could took. + But among all, the worst would be having to search for parts. Cause I am sure there isn't a single part for this, unless you need to order a company to specificly design that part.

The maus was a incredibly good tank and Nazi germany made around 10-50 of them but none where used in comabt due to lack of ammo for the 128mm gun it used and lack of experienced/trained crew to operate it, so the maus tanks that where made got hid in lakes rivers and marshes and even buried to prevent capture tho the soviets captured one during the battle for Berlin

They can make it faster but there is only 2 maus tank that are built because it's to expensive to build and it's to slow and it' a easy target for small tanks

The maus was.never deployed. It developed a prototype like the 1000 ratte. If it was actually deployed it would have been troublesome to maintain, and would have the costs outway the benefits. The p1000 ratte tho.. its said if that was deployed even once, it could have changed the outcome of the war.

I'm not sure I totally understand this game, is everything you do in this game just clicking all the parts and shadows? What is the "thinking" part?

The thinking part is that the game is highly realistic; miss one part and the thing falls apart, or loses a lot of value. So, you have to rely on statistics, or blueprints of the tank.

@@sproge2142 Perhaps we simply move in different circles, but I have yet to see a mechanic game that implements such a mechanic in a fun way. The only thing similar in TMS is finding dependencies, as sometimes very small parts prevent you from placing bigger ones
