Maverick 88.. What NO ONE is telling you!

I already owned a 500 and a 590 before I bought the 88, the only two reasons I bought it was it was a Mossberg and was on sale for $170.00!. I have no complaints what so ever about this gun. I started hunting back in the 60's and a lot shot guns only had a bead on the end of the barrel and that's all we needed!.

I LOVE MINE..HAD A REMINGTON 870 BACK IN THE 80'S...I MISS THAT GUN...BUT,I AM WELL SATISFIED WITH MY MAVERICK...

Have 3 of them! First one got NIB at a local big box store. Other 2 are used pawn shop finds. Great shotgun for the money.

The nicely blued finish gives the Maverick 88 a classic look. With care, the finish will hold up well.

I've had mine for 4 years now. It's hasn't let me down. I can fire hot rounds just like I can on my M590. The only thing is it doesn't hold 7 + 1 3" or 8 + 1 2¾" shells like my 590. The safety is something petty to gripe about. It's not a problem.

My two favorite shotguns, which I currently own are...Remington 870 Wingmaster and Maverick 88. Without question the 88 is the best $200 I've ever spent on a firearm. Mav 88 has been outstanding, no issues whatsoever. I have the security model with 18-inch barrel. I also purchased a longer slug barrel for deer hunting. Such an affordable versatile shotgun.

I just picked one up myself. It's great but I have one gripe. The safety is a cross bolt rather than on the top like the 500. Other than that it's frickin Fantastic.

Maverick 88 Security Model is just fine for it's purpose. You won't be running around in the rain other than putting it in your car to take to the range and practise. Five shots is also more than capable of stopping or discouraging intruders. Great rifle for the average Joe. Not everyone can afford a Benelli M4. But all in all a very true and informative video. Thanks

I actually prefer the crossbolt safety behind the trigger for three reasons: 1. It's more popular among other pump action and semiautomatic shotguns and thus more familiar and instinctively embedded in the training of most shooters. 2. The receiver mounted safety of the model 500 is prone to "walking" to safe under recoil after being worn out from extended use. People who are trained to actively engage the safety as a training condition, like police officers and military users are more likely to encounter this problem. The 590 uses a beefier steel safety which is a bit better, and a little harder to vibrate back to safe under recoil because of the weight, but it's not a "cure" for worn out bearing surfaces. 3. I find the "tang" or receiver mounted safety to be a distraction when sighting down the plane, which for me, starts at the receiver.

I believe the Security model with the 5 shot magazine can accept longer Mossberg barrels, but the Security model with the 7 shot magazine doesn't have much in the way of barrel options. All of the Mossbergs with the with long magazine tubes, tend to suffer from magazine springs that go weak. A better quality replacement magazine spring should help both lengths, as the springs are similar in both.

I do wish there was a matte/park version of the 88.

Bought mine when Dick's Sporting Goods sold ammo and firearms .... paid $217 with tax and a box of ammo ....mine is the 18.5" bbl

The only reason I would spend more for the 500 is the Maverick doesn't come in a .410. My son has a 12 ga. Maverick which I have shot, and the only thing I didn't like was the safety. But could get used to it.

I own 2 Maverick 88's. I cant find naythign to complain about, They both do what is needed without issue

I love my 500 but I would buy anything from this company and the torcher test is proof of its reliability

I like Mossberg as a company and many of their products. I wasn’t impressed with the 88 series. Price was good but quality wasn’t. The 410 sides bulged after use. The 20 had a lift gate issue = when the pins got loose after use the gate would dislocate rendering tge weapon a club. The 12Ga seemed better built but my front grip worked lose and popped off. I had to drill out and replace the small pin holding it into place with a larger one.

I quit counting rounds on mine once I cleared 2K rounds without a single problem.

Price not being a real problem for me, I like the 500 group and the ability to modify the gun to my liking....

For~$200, cerakoting would be easily affordable.

I bought my 870 in 2011 for 250 dollars.

It doesn't rust if you clean it.

I think I'd rather wait till a police 870 Wingmaster from back in the day comes around for about 300.

parts are outsourced to Mexico. I will stick with Remington

Go look at one they suck compared to the older one .

what they are not tellling you is that shotguns are toys, intende for hitting birds or clay targets in flight. They suck at nearly all other gun jobs. they aint waf for shtf, ccw, or home defnese. NO longarm is likely to be there when you need it for home defense. WEAR your pistol openly when at home, so it can be brought into play in 1/2 second, cause 1 second is all you're like;ly to have before an intruder overwhems you in some one. 1/2 second gets your gun pointed at him, 1/4 second more makes the decision to kill or not, and 1/4 second more get his buddy. When the others see two of their homies burned-down in 1 second flat, they always flee. it's many tomes more likely that you wont HAVE the longarm (in hand, when needed) than that the pistol wont be "enuugh gon".
