While Mavericks news has gone quiet after the first week of 2024 NBA Free Agency, Mavs GM Nico Harrison is planning to unveil the new Mavericks players they acquired in the 2024 NBA offseason in Klay Thompson, Naji Marshall and Quentin Grimes. With the additions of these 3, can the Mavs make it back to the NBA Finals for the second consecutive year? Mavs head coach Jason Kidd will have a tall task ahead of him balancing the rotation headlined by Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

People are sleeping on the Kings they had a lot of injuries they should be in that contender group. The Pelicans, Clippers, Grizzlies and Suns can make a case if any of the 4 teams you mentioned have serious injuries like the Kings had last season. For example the Mavericks have injuries to Luka, Lively, Gafford & maybe Klay for a short time. That could open spots for one of those teams to go deep in the playoffs same for Minnesota, Denver or OKC.

Just depends on the finish order. There are 3 teams that will be able to beat any of those four if they get hot at the right time, so you don't know who will be there or who they'll have to play in round 2.

Think about OKC and the fact that they were #1 in fewest minutes lost to injuries and #1 in most games played together for their playoff starting 5. They might get a few surprises this season....nobody is that lucky two years in a row.

Thunder had a great off-season. Great players and great coach. When Dort probably gets moved to bench and for Mavs he clearly starts.

I wouldn't say title contender, but they'll be a rough team to play in the first round (maybe even the second). Not enough firepower to get to the Conference Finals, but I like that squad.

Too many Mavs channels trying to get a foothold since they were so successful. It would be smarter to do like JJ did with his podcast where he had a show every other day and the two co-stars had the other days covered. New info, new takes, same channel.

I think the mavs may be holding the last roster spot for a player that gets cut before the season starts. OKC has like 20+ dudes on their roster…

I wish they needed a PG to develop. I would really love to see someone who has an extra roster spot give McClung a chance to stick somewhere. The guy has been playing great in the G-League and even beat Wemby's team in the all-star game "playoff". He definitely isn't going to help anyone immediately, but he's too good to just let sit in the minors (and I really hate to see him go to Europe to make a living).

Depends on injuries. They are WAY better than last year and Kyrie missed 24 games.....and they STILL won 50 (the starters all taking the final 2 games off). Do you really think it would be difficult to get above 56 if they are less injured (and now that they have replacements at every position)?

Has to be OKC. They already gave them a tough series, but now have Caruso and Heartenstein. That's some big additions (although I'm curious how they'll defend Luka if Dort is coming off the bench). I think the Mavs are better (Luka's healthy and OKC might not have the best record in the West). Don't sleep on the Kings. They have a great center (who put up the most double-doubles in the league) and a very talented PG along with some streaky players at the other positions. Now they added Derozan who will give them over 20ppg consistently to balance out their offensive attack. They're going to surprise some teams. I guarantee they won't be sitting out this playoffs.

Over I think it’ll take Klay less time to gel and Kidd to work out rotations Maybe a mixed back to start the year but think by trade deadline they should be cook’n Also pending Luka injury updates Will he get load management this season?

I think he just needs to play less minutes....especially early on. If Kidd can keep him and Kyrie to 36 a game, they starters might stay a little healthier and require less games off. Klay is used to 34-36 minutes a game and I'm betting he won't want to dip down, so they'll be able to pair Luka and him or Kyrie and him quite a bit. Saw Grimes at shooting practice today and that man has a SOFT jumper! If he shoots like that in games, you won't be able to get ANY playing time unless you're a PF or Center (maybe a little at SF when Klay shifts to SG during breaks for Kyrie or Luka). But Naji and Klay are going to eat up those minutes at SF unless it works out where Klay gets even more SG time.

@@SDesWriter yeah I was thinking initially 30 mins a game and this does give Kidd load management options too esp for Luka with his injuries. Kidd has pieces now that can move around. If and when we get SDW or DSJr then I could see it as… Ball out first Q, then heavy rotation with defensive stoppers (DSJr, GRIMES, Marshall, gafford) to maintain the lead and work back in starters as needed the. Close out 4th Q

They do have a couple guys who could come off the bench for the SG spot and Caruso is a lock to be the starter. They need his scoring and he's the best defender on the team now. The only problem is Dort is the best they have against Luka and even Caruso has admitted there's nothing you can do to stop him. So they might have to keep him just for that matchup, but playing time is going to be really brutal on that team.
