A lot of people seem to have a nostalgia about DSJ, but he simply doesn't offer size, shooting and playmaking the way Dinwiddie does. DSJ offers point of attack defense but not much else. Dinwiddie is also an insurance the Mavs needs for mid season moves. Dinwiddie chose the Lakers before because he would have a defined role and more playing time. Since his contract was up, he chose what could give him a better chance to get a better contract, which I understand. It didn't work and one could say it kind of backfired. He would have helped the Mavs and going to the Finals would have been a better showing for his contract aspirations. That's why he now chose the Mavs with just a 1 year contract. His size and playmaking, ability to create his own shot makes him great for what the Mavs need. Because he can play with either Luka or Kyrie or both. DSJ would make a backcourt of him and Kyrie too small and THT is just bigger, no playmaking, no shooting, etc.
Spencer is the perfect cover for Luka and Kyrie who will miss at least 30 games across the season. Spencer will play his role. Mavs should investigate what assets they could get for Hardy or Grimes as playing time may be limited.
No Grimes should stay, I would hope he gets extended already in a Josh Green type deal. I doubt it but I do hope. I expect him to be Irving’s bkup. Hardy on the other hand, should be traded. There’s no future for him here unless he improves to be better than Dinwiddie and shows management that he can takeover Dinwiddie’s spot after this season once Dinwiddie becomes a free agent next summer.
Mr Gray thanks for all of your coverage on the team I have followed for more than 20 years. I'm so excited seeing how this iteration of our Mavs continues to pleasantly surprise!
The mavs improved that starting 5 while also improving the bench. The mavs are even deeper this year, and the may look slightly different with less athleticism minus DJJ, but not by much. Both grimes and Naji are athletic and can fly and the bith shoot better. I think grimes can play equal defense to DJJ and naji will be more in the pj role with ability to switch to the guards
Fk Hardy’s development. He has to earn it. Right now he isn’t better than 31 year old Dinwiddie. Sadly Hardy and Prosper need to go to other teams like Green to become better. Mavs don’t have time to wait for them to develop. Mavs are in win now mode. Partly because Kyrie isn’t young, Luka could leave, and because Klay is up there in age.
Will the Lakers have to pay child support since Spencer is moving back in with mom? Jokes aside, I’m excited Spencer is coming back to Dallas. This team is pretty damn deep. I expect Kyrie, Klay, Lively and Kleber to miss 15+ games each, so it’s great to have such depth. I expect Dinwiddie to earn a significant role coming off the bench and he’ll likely start some games when Kyrie is injured. I expect his shooting efficiency to get a positive bump playing off of Luka, Kyrie and Klay. Welcome back, Spencer!
Kev, leave that got-damn volume where it is! You’re doing an exceptional job. Awesome Microphone and I would like to know who the manufacturer is and the version to be quite candid. We have volume knobs on the other side to adjust accordingly.
This shows the Dinwiddie wants to win. Because most dude's wouldn't eat that crow to come back to the team, you thought LA was better than last year. His lack of judgment cost him a case at playing the finals.
Mavs just need some good continuity. Alot of people are going to be up in arms if we don't go to the finals this upcoming season, but will fail to recognise we're a genuine threat for a championship for years to come, maybe even multiple championships.
Do you know who we have at C now? And we have 4s that can step in as a 5 if needed WELL BEFORE we would use DP. I still think he has a place on the team.
Yea...Spenc is a good player...and i rooted hard for him while with Mavs....but his assessment didn't sit well with me....he has to be called out and asked what he meant
That the Lakers were the challenge for him as a basketball player and the Mavs would’ve been singing where there’s comfort. At the end I think it was all BS, he wanted to play for the team he rooted for as a kid. As a LA kid. I think most Mavs fans were just mad he didn’t pick us and looked for something to hate him for
Before getting Dinwiddie I would agree, but now with Dinwiddie back on the Mavs I don’t know. Hartenstein and Caruso were great signings but to me Grimes is Caruso for the Mavs, and Dinwiddie is a walking bucket. Had the Mavs had Dinwiddie, OKC would’ve lost in 5. Now with him back and adding Klay,Grimes and Naji? Man I don’t know. It’s going to be fun for sure. Perhaps neither team will get the 1 seed, because I won’t be shocked if Memphis gets it with Morant back.
If Spencer had signed back with us at the trade deadline last year, do u think his offense pushes us past Boston, or do u think we still would have lost even with SD?
I, personally they would’ve beaten LAC in 5, OKC in 5, swept Minn and the Boston series I think he could have helped win at least 1 game. And that game would be game 3. And you never know, could have won game 2. I still don’t know if the Mavs would’ve won the Finals though because Kyrie played so bad in Boston.
@@a.puerto5667 lay-up line maxi misalot is the worst scrub he can't be moved without using a first so no can't move him, but he should never see the court ever
@@richardcase9165 I’ll be surprised if Kidd doesn’t use him if he’s healthy, in the season and in the playoffs. He’s not a liability on defense and can spread the court for us and play Center in small ball lineups. If they trade him, I won’t be mad, but I also wouldn’t trade him. He’s not Powell bad out there. I rather keep Kleber.
Kevin, as someone who has been around the team, do you think Kyrie and Spencer will get along? Seems like they are both smart but strongly opinionated and outspoken. They are both professionals so I'm sure it will be fine but it has crossed my mind.
@@KevinGraySports good to hear. They are two of my favorite interviews to listen to with thoughtful, non-generic answers so post games should be more fun haha
He needs to earn those minutes. He’ll get them in the season, in the playoffs I doubt it if Dinwiddie,Grimes and Naji are balling the way we hope they will.
14:46 Naji has a smirk in his face when klay says “the way this world class organization treats their players” that was most definitely shady af and he must’ve been talking to his new teammates
Heck no, fairweather. You know nothing of the game nor what Dinwiddie brings. Beyond what he brings--he is also close friends with Kyrie, Hardy, and Doncic-approved (over and over).
Not sure, but he shot the 3 at 44% in his last 15 games for the Lakers. I expect a big season for Dinwiddie on a contract year. That will be good for us if he can help this bench get better to win the title
@@AMINOMMA Like any fan I want my team the Mavericks to win the championship. When they fail it might seem like I'm angry but just frustrated & want them to be better.
Kidd should sit Kleber with the third unit and rollout Spencer, Hardy, Grimes, Marshall, and Gafford. Defense lacking blabla they will put up BUCKETS! I know rotations are more complicated than this but that should complete our 10. Exum and Kleber should get less minutes
How do you put the nuggets over this mavs team? If we still had DJJ the we’d be leaps and bounds better, but we are definitely still better than the nuggets without him. The healthy mavs last year beat the nuggets and the nuggets have only gotten worse, while the mavs have gotten better. They lost offense and defense , where as we improved every side of the ball. Health is gonna put us close to 60 wins this year. I’m thinking around 55
Nuggets have no bench and losing Pope will be huge. OKC is a problem, but with Mavs adding Klay and Dinwiddie, i am not worried about them. In part because they also added Grimes and Naji without losing someone like Hardy and Exum for depth
Point is the Mavs didn’t have enough scorer’s who could take the pressure off of Luka/Kyrie. Plus, they lacked players with playoff experience when it matters most. You’re underestimating the potential of the Mavs’ moves this offseason even with a stacked WC going forward.
Mate, Hardaway jr is a cone on defence, DDJ was great defensively but a liability on offence more than you think, naji is not really old and apart from Josh green the team didn’t lost any youth. If you talk about hardy, he’s not good on defence either and the mavs have enough ball handlers now
@xfanatick7972 Exactly, in fact, Naji is even younger than Jones by a year. The only thing we really lost is some of the above the rim athelticsm. Which isn't anything major imo when you look at the improved shooting we got.
This is just not true naji is about the same defensively as djj grimes is better than green on defense and a worse shooter klay is better than thj in every single way and dinwiddie is literally like we got a new player without having to replace someone
He plays D when he has to. He blocked Dame in a 2pt attempt to try to win the game last season for the Lakers. And the Mavs needed another creator or someone who can get their own shot. We saw that in the playoffs that the Mavs just had Luka and Kyrie to get their own shot.
@KevinGraySports Why does Nico seem to only want to sign, trade for or draft black players? I mean they were extremely lucky last season with health that allowed them to make it to the NBA Finals. I'm disappointed that Nico doesn't seem to like international players whether they are in the draft, free agency or to trade for. With the exception being Josh Green & Ajinca.
@@xfanatick7972 Thank you for your comment! Last year they were lucky the first time no one expected them to make it that far that's because they had DFS and Dinwiddie & others playing their role.
Whoa whoa whoa… you’re seriously making this about race? What a tool. That was a despicable comment you made about racism. Don’t ever f*cking bring it up again. That was absolutely atrocious. Shame on you.
@@bjmusic1984 Np mate. I agree with your second part but at this point we need to stop underrating Luka and the mavs. I’m not a mavs fan but at this point it’s kinda unfair for us to belittle their accomplishments. There’s no luck in beating the top1 seed(fully healthy) in both runs and the wolves with Luka dealing with injuries throughout the entire playoffs this year.
can't play together? said who? they were good in nets until he got he got injured. then harden came in, the reason nets didn't resign spencer in fa. in mavs, you need to give something back for nets to trade kyrie and nets got dfs and spencer. kyrie is definitely glad to have another pg in the roster to help to make their job easier. If anything else, it's hardy and exum who will not like this because spencer's minutes will be coming from them and not kyrie/luka.
Irving GEEEEET OOOOOUT please, this guy sucks, guess wont happen, so at least hammmer in his head that he is and ever been a 2nd option, after B8ston series not more as minimum salary
