The Huli Cat sport fishing boat takes on a Mavericks wave during a filming session for the movie "CHASING MAVERICKS" Music by Los Improviders / user-653609833 #surf #chasingmavericks #powerlinesproductions
Love how the video starts with early morning dark surf check and crusty dudes mumbling and being trash. For like minutes and minutes. Super great intro
"Gotta pay the bills, ya know how it is" great quote, and yes I agree Also hats off, 2 thumbs up and props to the people on the jet skis, they have got a set of nads on them too!
Love that oh-so-casual pole dance at 8:36 the guy pulls on the Huli...little bigger set wave with just a little more west in it, and that could've been pretty sketch...
Pause at @ 12:13 , slow it down to .25 speed, hit play and watch that man go over the freakin' falls! He pops out at the peak!! Holy smokes, what a monster wipe out!!!
You guys make it so easy to ride Mavs. But I know different. You guys have balls of steal. Yea I have to get some shots of me getting caught inside !? Lol.
Awesome footage. Those were some quality rides. That angle on Tazzy's drop on the last wave (14:28) made it look impossible. Shane Dorian was knifing takeoffs and that goober at 11:50 (and again at 13:45) was cutting lines. Can someone provide a little insight into the etiquette in a big wave line-up? I can't imagine it gets any more unambiguous than burning the premier big-wave surfer in life-threatening conditions like that example, but why are shoulder hoppers even looking at waves let alone dropping in and forcing chargers to straighten out? I guess I'm just surprised that's even remotely tolerated considering how high the stakes are when even crummy breaks get regulated.
Mavs has such an epic left, too. It is usually hollower, and even heavier, than the right.....they oughta just go left if they want the true innately barrelling section on that break...It is well worth looking up footage of the Mavericks left.
I believe there was a film crew out for this session. Not just for individual surfers but for a Hollywood type movie. Thats why it was so busy with boats, and everyone had their best boards and wetsuits on. The Hulicat may have been getting the re-enactment of the Jay Moriarity wave. No excuse, just what was going on.
Luv that last clip of that guy who kept dropping in getting shoved into the rocks by that guy pulling in from behind. He had to or that would have been him getting slammed into the rocks.
Nice view of the guy's shoulder when Dorian is pulling in a barrel big enough you can drive a school bus through. That's what happens when Hollywood tries to create surfing
Best 4:28, petty lady.. Ok I had to stop watching when boats came out into the channel, not cool... best on low tide still a great wave amazing how filmer and editor made it look so easy and peaceful on such an actually very dangerous and challenging wave, crowded as hell. I can still remember early 90's on the real Santa Cruz locals on thia wave, we still love ya Shane. Much respect to late mark foo's passing, RIP... 😆
Standard survival practice is maintaining extremely high fitness, where possible some do training underwater at holding your breath whilst picking up small boulders and running along the bottom but underwater swimming at the least the length of a fifty meter swimming pool. If you cant sit in a chair and hold your breath for four or five minutes then you really shouldn't be out there.
Jim Jammy They seem pretty relaxed about sharing unlike the beach break crowd, but that guy with the fluro yellow suit that nearly t-boned a few times needs a kick in the nads
We are working on it. Didn't really have a good place to put our footage but now RU-vid has supplied a great platform for us. So thank you for tuning in and if you're interested to know, we will be consistently posting up new or archive stuff. Aloha, POWERLINES
@@nickc3856 Well David C., He's kinda chillin in that situation. This is his home break literally. He knows the ocean out here very well. Not sure what he says about this incident but he looks comfortable a bit. #justsayin :)
@@PowerlinesProductions Did the surfer riding the wave who had to dive off his board to avoid the Huli Cat seem comfortable? If something worse had happened would you still just say "well it's his home break and he's chillin" as an excuse for that captain being a careless idiot? I bet you wouldn't #justsayin :)
David C well Captain Tom is kinda known for being reckless but he's been in the area for something like 40 years so he gets a pass from just about everyone. There's a video on fb of the Huli Cat motoring fast next to a bunch of kayakers in the harbor and knocking a couple of them over and I gotta admit I laughed
Hahahaha, what wave you surf that so much better?! Some of the best big waves ever ridden have been at MAvericks annnd hardly anybody surfs the left because its VERY DIFFICULT. HARDLY ANYBODY! So, where is that wave you surf?
