I’m a new pilot of 1 year and I fly the spark. I’ve grown to love this hobby and have grown in technique and skills in piloting and videography and feel it’s time for an upgrade. I’ve chosen the zoom as I find the “pro “ is “too much camera “ for my skill levels and i can always switch it when I’m ready. Thanks for the info,enjoy your channel 😎
I didn’t rush out and get it, I have been toying with the idea of upgrading but after watching this I really am quite happy with my Pro. Anyway I just don’t want the grief from my wife. She was ok for the first 60 drones but now she SAYS that I have enough. Thanks for your guidance
I’ve just flown my MP2, and I’m totally blown away. A lot has been said about the superb camera, which is awesome, but very little about the flying experience. The new Mavic2 is just so absolutely stable, very quiet and responds so well to the controls it just inspires confidence. The original MP was good, but there is something I can’t pin down about the new MP2 that just makes it feel different in the air. I was worried that I might be buying just another Mavic but with a better camera, how wrong could I have been, the flying experience feels totally better.
My Zoom will be here tomorrow. Ordered about five days ago. Very excited to jump in here, since I’ve been flying Holy Stone hobby drones until now. They are great fun, but I’ve also passed my FAA part 107 and plan to contract with the government for small jobs. Thank you for the enthusiasm and professionalism you evoke in your You Tube videos. It encourages me.

I already purchased the Mavic Pro 2, and have since sold my Mavic Pro and Air. I plan on getting into real estate photography with it as I have done real estate photos in the past with my Canon 6D setup.
I had a Mavic Pro last year. Since I knew I would not use it in the winter I sold it after my vacation in Myanmar and Thailand. Hoping that a year later i could use the money for an improved drone. So, i ordered the 2 Pro. The main reason is the better camera. Thanks for your videos. Keep up the good work.
Russ, we have a MP2 ordered, just waiting on it. We will be using it to supplement our Matrice 200 and 210 with aerial imagery and GIS data collection with some use for local government cable access TV coverage and supplementing local emergency response when needed. We expect the sensor on the MP2 to be usable in all these missions and more.
I was thinking that. Another mavic 2 pro review. And yes, I will watch it. Because spending 2 Gs on a piece of plastic is going to be the 2nd most expensive thing I've bought in my life. Thank you for your contribution to my purchasing decision.
I have the Mavic 2 Pro and I love it. I will definitely keep it but I will probably buy all of the Mavic drones once I start my channel. I can’t see how I would love any of the others more than the 2Pro.
I'm slightly late to the party in watching and responding to this video, but I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed this video and your videos in general. In fact I decided to subscribe, which is a big deal for me considering I'm currently only subscribing to a handful of channels. Anyway, I am a lifetime photographer. My first camera was a 35mm SLR back in high school. I eventually transitioned to digital in the late 90's. Fast forward to 2016 when I bought my first drone, the Mavic Pro. As you said, drone photography has rekindled my love for photography. I also enjoy videoing with the drone, but my primarily focus is photography. I've been watching many of the videos about the Mavic 2 Pro and am very impressed. I will definitely upgrade eventually, but in the meantime I'm still having fun and learning a lot with my Mavic Pro. I have the Phantom 4 and getting ready to buy the Mavic 2 Pro, but I agree with you that if I am going to put that much money into a drone I have to take my youtube channel to the next level.
Another great video Russ. On the subject of insurance, for anyone in the UK, the company I did my PfCO course with suggested looking at Flock Cover. You just need to download the app and then insure by the hour / day / job etc. This is great for those of us just wanting to do the odd paying job here and there and dont want to pay an annual insurance fee. Two of the guys on my course used this to insure for their Flight Skills Test.
I'm a pro sports photographer who is starting to wind down with sports as I move to more landscape photography. My first drone, a mavic 2 pro, is on order. Russ, your channel was the first one I subscribed to a few months ago. I used to fly my old Parrot AR Drone every once in a while but your videos on the Mavic Pro made me to want to get into flying more often. I learned a lot from your channel and also a few others so on Amazon Prime Day, I purchased a Mavic Pro Fly More Bundle. With many health issues and not being able to do most of my old hobbies such as riding motorcycles and playing golf, and being told to find a hobby, I decided flying may be the right choice. Man, I love flying. Unfortunately yesterday, I was doing a POI flight and crashed into a tree breaking the gimbal. Thank GOD I had also purchased the DJI care so I boxed it up and sent it off today for repair. I do plan on purchasing the MP2 Pro at a later date but may be a year or so away. I would like to do the part 107 at some point I think. As far as a You Tube channel goes, I have been really excited to try but am thinking I must learn to edit video first and I am not sure that with lower technology, I would be successful. I do like the way the Drone Community seems to back one another and that is great to see. Sorry for the long commit but I love your channel and am glad you plan on continuing with the MP1 videos. I wish you continued success!
My story is unique. I bought the Platinum when it first came out. It was a great drone at the time but the problem is and this is a doozie, I have dementia. So, a few things set in, fear being the first. This just wasn’t what I needed. It didn’t have the safety features that the Mavic 2 does for sure. I sold it about two weeks after owning it. Now, I’m getting back in the game. Like I said I have dementia and my short term memory is all but gone. But I am going to type out some sort of “start up” guide for me to use every time I fly it. The main thing is the Mavic2 to me is the best drone on the market that has the automatic features, that keep you from crashing into things whatever that is called, I forgot of course. But the automatic settings for the camera for example is perfect. I am going to go with the Mavic2 with smart controller. This will take a step or two out of the preflight things like hooking up my phone and worry about a call or text while I am flying. I’m starting out on Tripod mode. In an open field, and I will make myself have fun with this. Your videos I have watched for a long time now and I’m going to pull the trigger again....thanks for all you do. Anyone can tell you enjoy sharing your knowledge. And I will probably be reaching out for some pointers from time to time.
Awesome video! We share some of the very same sentiments. I too have rekindled my passion for photography. I wanted to spring for that Mavic Pro 2 right out the gate. Although I had the loot, I just could't pull the trigger just yet because I had never flown more than a $50 indoor drone. So I hesitantly settled for the Mavic Pro. Turns out, I'm glad I did. I'm learning a lot with it and getting comfortable with it. Only when I get my Part 107 will I look to upgrade to a then current drone. You're right, what I have now is still pretty awesome. Hey Russ, I received my MP2 about 2 weeks ago. Its my first drone. Prior to purchasing it i found your channel. It not only helped me with my decision to purchase the MP2 it gave me the education I needed to fly it safely. I've spent numerous hours flying it and getting use to the controls. Now that I'm a bit more comfortable and less anxious, I'm starting to use the intelligent flight modes. When I'm in waypoints I cannot set my height above 65 feet. Am I doing something wrong? Dang it, this makes it SO tempting for me. My biggest issue with my MP1 is I don't want to bother with video editing to get great shots, but I'm not happy with how they look stock.
My HISTORY; 1)P-4pro sold noise concern, 2)Mavic-Pro sold noise concern, 3) Mavic-Pro-Platinum = Noise==OK, but in bike race NEVADA camera went out of focus, send to DJI for warranty repair. Now thinking about Back-UP drone. Next drone will be Mavic-2 +Mavic-Platinum. LESSON Learned = When I am in REMOTE location 2 Drones will be =MUST

You are right this drone is great with Auto and Normal Color profile. I cannot believe how easy it is compared to the previous DJI drones. Great Stuff and thanks for the Skywatch info. HQ is just stunning in my opinion, I love that resolution. Just an amazing drone. The Hasselblad camera is the steadiest camera gimbal I have tested. It is going to be great for Hyperlapses - not the DJI hyperlapse options.
On the insurance question: $10 million ? Putting aside the issue of what may constitute damages ,including personal injuries, most all of us don't carry that kind of coverage on our cars , which can cause considerably more damage and injury than any drone could (with a few possible exceptions?). This high $$ number could just be a competition thing as there are more companies coming into this new side of the insurance business. Guess it doesn't matter though , because even a hobbyist should consider insurance at times when flying , and the cost is well worth the peace of mind. I keep the Verifly app on my phone ,but as yet haven't felt the need to actually avail myself of the service due to always flying in remote ,unpopulated areas.
You can choose the amount of coverage. The maximim is $10m. Very few people will need that. They have several choices. It costs anywhere from $10 to $25/hr for a typical flight, depending on various factors at the time of flight.

Great vid Russ. I will probably hang onto my Mavic Pro for now for four reasons. 1) I am retired, so probably not going to get my certification any time soon. 2) I really don’t get out enough with my drone, and feel that I haven’t given it a fair chance. 3) I think I would rather hang on for a while so that all the problems, albeit tiny ones as far as I am aware, are ironed out before purchasing. 4) And this is the biggest stumbling block for me: I haven’t yet thought of a good enough excuse to give the wife for spending over £1000 on a new drone! Lol.

Great channel, just subscribed. Question. I am a real estate photographer and am trying to decide between the 2 pro and zoom. There have been some videos showing that the footage from the 2 pro is softer than the zoom and I was wondering if that was just video or in stills? Also would the super high res mode work just as well for still photos of houses vs the 1" sensor? Just wondering your thoughts and keep up the great work.
If you are just looking to do photos, then the Zoom is a better choice. Less expensive, and the photos are no better on the Pro, at least from what I've seen. Either way, you would be happy, but you could save a couple hundred with the Zoom.

Good insight. I will keep my MP for the foreseeable future. I fly for fun & family or personal video projects so the increased cost is too high for me right now after only having the MP for 1.5 yrs.
Congrats on your 107, while I agree that the Mavic Pro 2 has awesome footage 90% of the people wouldn’t be able to tell which drone was producing the 4K footage, wether it be Mavic Air or Pro or zoom etc.
Hi .... I love your videos, I recently received my Mavic 2 and have watched most of your videos pertaining to it. I also purchased a iPad Mini 4 . I have flown 2 times so far and both in Beginner mode. Never thought i would be nervous but I am so far. I live in Ontario Canada and the weather has been crappy which brings me to my question. How much wind can you fly in or does it have to be no wind?
Thank you! I have flown it in 20mph with no issues at all. I have flown my Mavic Pro in 31mph, and although it struggles a bit, it still landed directly from where it took off. They are very good at handling the wind.
They don’t even have a good portion of the features available yet. Precision landing is kind of important!!!! Saw one where a guy had to intervene before his landed in a roof! Plus other main features. Also a lot of people are saying the video quality is lousy. And I’d have to agree.
Not lousy at all. 10x better than anything I've had. Don't listen to other's opinions. You just have to see it for yourself. RU-vid compression brings the quality down quite a bit. If you watch the footage on a 4K monitor, not on RU-vid, it's like night and day.

I for one will be keeping my Mavic Pro for awhile since I’m still learning all about the capabilities it has, plus it’s only 4+ months old. Congratulations on passing your Part 107 exam! In the future I will be looking to upgrade plus I’ve started studying for my part 107 exam too! May use it in the future for modeling or mapping construction projects, since I been a project manager & contractor most of my life. Again, thanks for the very good review!

Love the videos Russ. My MP2 arrived on Wednesday and it’s as awesome as you say. Don’t get me wrong, the MP is still very very good and thanks to your tutorials the flying and film footage has improved dramatically, but the MP2 really makes professional flying and videos a whole lot better and easier. Great video Ross, i am still very satisfied with my Mavic pro at the moment, main reason for me to keep my Mavic pro is because commercial drone flying is not so simple here in Canada... My drone is almost new and i keep learning with this fantastic aircraft, for me it’s my first drone and he is so fun and easy to fly.. i just love it, my next step is to learn editing with Adobe premiere.
Congrats for the new drone mate! But... Honestly, looking at the samples you show in this video I cannot see any upgrade. The Pro 1 looks a bit more crispy and true-color to me, sorry :-/ Anyway, I'm still looking for a good footage from the new mavic 2 Pro and I couldn't yet manage to find any anywhere. No one is doing nice stuff with it :-/
Very helpful information for a beginner. What editing/grading software package would be for a novice? I've 30 years under my belt using music composition software, but even-so, would like something with a relatively easy entry-point.
Wow, the first time I don’t really fully agree with you. First thing is client are not that discriminating. As long as it looks good and you have done a good job the Mavic Pro Platinum is just fine. I think the Mavic 2 Pro is way over what nearly anyone would need. I have looked at tons of videos on these two drone. At first I was all over the Pro2 but then I began to get strayed but what most of our pros are saying and began to lean heavy to the Zoom. I raw tests the Zoom shots a great picture. Rarely do I get a job request for video. Almost always it is for stills. So now I am in between keeping my Mavic Pro and buying the Zoom maybe later this year when it all shakes out. The Pro 2 is really great but I think it is over kill. I bet if they had priced the Zoom at the high end all the early adapters would have ran out and bought the Zoom. Just because the Pro 2 costs more it is not necessarily the best for most jobs unless you are a professional videographer.

I'm thinking about going with the pro for amazing photos and videos for my website. I'm a professional auto detailer and I think it would be a good investment for my business. I must say DJI really pissed me off with the phantom 2 vision plus and I really don't want to give then any more of my money, so I'm still debating on it. FYI I subscribed thanks bud.
I also have and love the Platinum and will keep it. I am planning on getting the Zoom (very handy to have in certain situations) and the Pro (that camera, and video quality!!). I can sell a few toys so the cost is not a problem. Keep up the great videos

Thanks for your variety of videos on the Mavic 2 Pro. I did purchase one before the price increase due to the tariffs. However, I am having some bad luck with frequent gimbal overload warnings while in flight. Doesn’t happen all of the time but it is happening more than I would like. Have you experienced or heard from others about this issue? Or do I perhaps have a faulty unit? Thanks for your help Russ!!
Not sure. That does sound like something that should be checked out. I've only gotten that warning when I forget to take the dang gimbal cover off! lol
51 Drones good to hear it isn’t the norm....I did end up sending in to DJI today. Not worth wondering with every flight if my gimbal is behave properly or not! Such a bummer!

I have I2 / X5, Mavic Pro, Air and Spark. Now that I have Mavic 2 Pro I will sell Mavic Pro and I wonder if I'll use the Air anymore as new as it is. I want the Spark 2 to go into flips and be able to be unlocked to a full racing drone.

I think I'll go m2pro route for the quality and portability over my current Phantom. Even in the DJI hard case the Phantom is super big and bulky. oooooo aaaaaaa mmmmm I love the how the M2P auto settings makes great videos without much effort. Geez Russ now I gotta work out how I can find the $ to buy one. At this stage I think I will continue with my MP1-ferrari and wait until the DJI M2PZOOM-all in one comes out. Some smooth editing once again, I can now understand a little how editing works and always looking to you for new knowledge. Before I decide to purchase a Mavic Pro, I'm going to wait and see if DJI is going to introduce a new radio remote that can transmit without the need of a phone.
I honestly think the Mavic Pro is the ultimate starter drone. The Mavic 2 Pro is maybe a bit too expensive for your first drone. The original Mavic Pro was my first ever drone and I have never regretted it. You can get a refurbished one for a great price, and it still comes with a full warranty from DJI. Hey, great video. I started following you a couple of months ago as part of my research prior to purchasing a drone. Love your channel & appreciate the information. I am a city planner and am awestruck by the possibilities presented by drones. I picked up a Mavic Air & Platinum Pro. I plan to get the Pro 2 this week. Why 3? Because two other members of my Team are equally hooked! We have different interests so the three drones provide the variety to match those interests. We fly as hobbyist now but I intend to sit for my Part 107.
With you, bro... Just as I'm living in Austria a MP2 is almost pointless, as you are limited to a maximum height of 8m in populated areas due to the fact it's a quad and it's weight. So for real estate I'm better off with a Spark or an Anafi which allow 26m and 25m, so to say can fly circles around the MP2. To get the quality of MP2 and the max. possible 150m you'd have to invest heavy in gear in my place...hex or more, redundant flight control, redundant battery,... and a lot more of the stuff you find in gear of the upper price range. And not to forget a biannual registration of the craft, costing at least another 300 bucks...

Great video Russ. I dont plan on buying the Mavic 2, i just fly for fun and look at the world from above. So for me, it is not worth it, and then the price we pay for it in South Africa is crazy. Our currency is at almost 15 to 1 against the dollar, plus import duties and the dealers profit added in :(

I just ordered a Mavic 2 Pro with Fly More. I have a nice Mavic Platinum and I'm thinking about selling it. For the first time, i bought gradient lens and the package of other darker shades to use. (N64, N32, N16) I'm traveling back to Maui (I used to live there) to basically spend a few days using my new Mavic 2 to film.(bright beaches, sunset, torches on the beaches at night, jungle landscape, and waterfalls) Please give me suggestions on settings, shades to use, and any software for after editing that I could use to make things beautiful. Well, there are many things to consider, depending on the environment at the time of flight. For the drone input and gimbal settings, watch my most recent video on Mavic 2 settings. For ND filters, I would invest in some ND/PL filters, at least the ND16/PL or even ND32/PL. For software, I only use Premiere Pro, but DaVinci Resolve and HitFilm Express are good free ones.
I’ve got 4 drones now after purchasing the Mavic 2 Pro. I have had my part 107 for over a year and market and tell people every day but all I get is we already have a drone guy or a drone here then I ask are they part 107 licensed and most common answer is no. What do we do why should we even bother getting our part 107 it’s hard to keep going with so many people with disregard for the law.
I enjoyed the video I’m thinking the same way I like to make some money with my drone I am planning to upgrade to the Mavic pro2 I have Evo but I have learn to trust my Mavic pro . And I’m working on a part 107.
honestly the mavic 2 pro's AUTO looked so much better than the D-LOG color corrected version!! I don't see how anyone can disagree with that statement because after color correcting it, it just looks more dull as opposed to bright and energetic quality that the AUTO seems to capture all on it's own.
Well, that really comes down to editing skills. Someone who is more skilled than I could probably produce a more appealing product. I have a ways to go with that I think!
Great comparison. Those shots of the Badlands convinced me of 2 things. Yes I need a Mavic Pro 2 since I am about to get into commercial photography and I need to take a trip to North Dakota. I think I will keep the Mavic Pro though for the more risky shots. Over water etc. You are costing me money Russ. I bought my MP a year ago because of your videos. Now this. Please don't review the Phantom 5 if it ever comes out lol
