I'm planning my second motorcycle trip to the Arctic circle along the Dempster highway. It is such a vast area. This is exactly what I wanted to do. Set a fly path and have the drone cross in front of me as I crest one of those hills and then follow me down the road. I'm buying my drone in a couple of weeks.. so excited. Thanks for what you do.
Russ, i just want to send big thanks from me here in the uk for ALL your tutorials. ive been watching your footage for months and months and today i decided to jump straight in and buy my very first drone. (mavic pro) its a used one but hopefully its as described, fully working order with very little signs of wear. your videos are more watchable and easier to understand than lots of others as most others seem to think its a competition to see who can talk fastest. i'm due to take delivery of mine this week so i'll let you know then how good your tutorials really are. dont worry Russ, if i crash, i'll not blame you!! haha
I am in Melbourne. When Vicroads start to update the freeway from 4 lines to 5. I was using P3. Now I am using mavic air and they still haven't finished yet.
Really late in the piece but just here to say really loving the tutorials on the Mavic pro... just bought a barely used Platinum and absolutely love the thing... Flymore, 4 batteries, cam filters a plenty, mains and car chargers, prop guards, Spare props till 2030!! Hard case... For an absolute bargain.. all she needed was a PC connection and a firmware upgrade lol.. Bargain!! These things are such a capable and solid drone... Will be for years to come hopefully too!
I agree with what you're doing and am very grateful for that but in my case learning something completely new sometime a little mind boggling. A few years ago I used to fly fixed wing and that got the adrenaline going, and I dare say that flying the Mavic is a great deal easier than them fixed wings I used to buzz around the flying site, But nowadays for us oldies things have moved on big time, and I am going to get one of these Mavic Pro as a retirement pressie for me and I'm grateful for any info I can get so I can fly safely and get it back in one piece! And I guess that's what you guys are doing, please keep up the good work and keep making videos for us old boys. Xx
I wrote down your tutorial instructions to take with me. I just got some time today to try. It took a little bit longer for me to follow your tutorial. I do not blame your tutorial at all as I believe it was spot on. What I think may have happened was that we either had a different version (4.x) or OS (iOS vs Android) of the app. When I did mine this morning I was on DJI Go 4.0.8 iOS. The steps you took were in reverse for me, so I had to skip ahead and do your steps in reverse order. Some of the settings you mentioned were named differently in my DJI Go 4 or not there at all. So I took my time trying to match your settings to mine. I was able to create a waypoint driven flight around Mountains Edge Regional Park that can found on my channel. You know how in your video at 3:11 you started off with get into position, 327 feet, horizon at top of screen, start waypoint settings, then you said to hit C1 -> move into place -> turn left or right with left stick -> focus -> C1 -> back to course -> move to next place and repeat. My app opened to a screen where it made me record the waypoints first, save them, then do the setup settings. The things that were named differently or not there at all were: 3:59 There was not a gear in the upper right corner, I had a star there. The waypoints settings screen appeared after saving mission. 4:01 "Aircraft heading" was just "Head to:" in my app. The aircraft headings are different- Adjustable Heading, Route-linked heading, Free. "Flight Mission Complete" was just "Mission Complete" in my app but the settings were the same- land or hover "Flight Velocity" was just "Speed" in my app, "Apply" was the last option Then you set the RTH altitude on the next screen, hit apply The waypoints were then uploaded, you click "Exit", then mission started. Sorry for the long post, I kept editing until I made it short as possible. This may help someone who might run into the same thing I did. Thanks for videos and keep up the hard work.
My new pro plat arrived today....windiest and wettest day for months. Good to fly tomorrow between 12 and 6 but I am at work. Cant wait to get it in the air!
Great tuition, it's going to take some practise methinks. Ordered my Mavic pro today, should get it tomorrow, I may be pestering you for some more videos. I have learned more from your tuition I think than anyone else in 2 years of flying drones. Keep up the excellent work.
Love the videos, as a new mavic owner i find it hard to follow you through the control menus. If you could slow down between each controller screen so i could have a chance to find my bearings the videos would be even better
Many thanks indeed! A really helpful tutorial, has given me a much better understanding of the waypoints mode and its potential. Impressed to at your remaining battery control and confidence to keep filming your tests! (I have had my mavic for less than a month) Geoff in the UK.
In India it would take several years, literally several years and during that time there wont be a proper road or anything and the vehicles will be diverted thru a rock road for 5-6 years and then later they will complete. Right now in my city there are half done flyover bridges lying half done for more than 5 years, in the heart of the city.
While the go app does offer some pretty neat options the waypoint procedure is not near as good as what Litchi has to offer. We are going to Mexico in a few weeks and I have all the missions all setup already using google maps so when I get there I just run the missions without all the fiddling required when using the go app. Just my opinion of course. As alway great video Russ and nice to see you act responsibly regarding the fire etc good job all around.
Great video! This is really helpful to me as a newer mavic pro owner learning intelligent modes. You gave a better and simpler explanation than others I've seen. Definately checking out your other videos...
Hey Well done! I have been utilizing LITCHI a whole lot. However I have lost two aircraft now using LITCHI. Both on Waypoint Missions again with LITCHI. So even though you did this with the MAVOC, I am a P4P and P4A owner. In the GO App the waypoint mission will be very similar. So thank you, this was very informative.
Your fire photo is very very important drones can help. In India the farmers gets compensation for fire in its neighbours field even after the wheat has been harvested 1 week back.
Just open up the Waypoint intelligent flight mode, and then on the bottom right it will say "saved missions". Click on that, and it will bring up all of your saved missions. Choose the one you want, and then hit start.
Hi , i would like to know how to set up the way point to keep the camera on the fix object and keep routing without adjust the camera up and down manually to make a more professional and smooth video?
my waypoints don't upload to the Mavic. They did the first time I tried a waypoint mission. But now when I enter waypoints, hit done the message giving your height is in red & the mission upload fails. Anyone have any ideas please
Hi, Great video but you do leave out information which could be very useful. For instance, in free mode how do you control the direction the camera is pointing? If you could update this it would be great. HNY!
LOL, just seen your comment on my chocolate tea pots - we sell them in the UK : ) Maybe I'll send you one to review : ) Maybe you can tell, flown two days now, 5 batteries, and on the 5th battery I came out of beginner mode. Weather is finally dry after 9 days of rain out of 11. Warm, bit cloudy weekend blue skies from Sunday so we're looking at things like way points - this looks like a cool feature.
I literally hate it when I lose footage or write over a memory card of construction progress. It's key to stay consistent, but things happen! But you have the before footage and thats all that really matters! @@51Drones
Can I rename a mission? And Can I delete a mission? I love the show and I have learned alot from you and Ed Ricker. Got my first drone a month ago. Getting a better feel for flying. Thanks brother!
I would very much like you to do that. I've been googling for quite some time but haven't found a way that would actually work on my Lenovo tablet (Android). I'm using DJI Go 4 app. They claim it's working on iOS.
Is it possible to set up a waypoint route using the map whist not flying then save it for later. I think you should be able to. if you can could you do a Video pls?
can I save only a starting point as a favorite? to use it after restarting the aircraft? I need to score a point but the distance is long (5,000 meters)
We live out in the sticks and plan to use the waypoint mode for protecting us and other houses on our road in case of some sort of an emergency. I plan to have it fly at about 75-125ft around our home and then up and down our road taking video. Can you adj. how long it hovers at each waypoint and is there a limit on how many waypoints you can have?
Hi. Great video. The phone I'm going to use with the controller hasn't a SIM card in it. It's a spare phone. Does this matter. Do I need to use a phone with a SIM card or not. Thanks in advance
I believe that in order to utilize the Intelligent Flight Modes that use GPS, you need a phone with a SIM card. I am not positive though. I know that you can still fly without service, it's just limited. I will do some research.
Just on a constructive note. A lot of thing you say or do but don’t explain. Example. When you got to your first waypoint you sait lets go to the intelligent fly mode and then suddenly your drone appears quickly in your left screen and the next second your tab was open. You then went from sport to normal mode quickly without saying and I was like: what did he just do? I was confused. Also many times you say something like: ok lets do this, lets save this, let change this, but you don’t explain how you do it ans since we dont even see any button to click we dont even know how you do it. I believe most of the time the confirmation button was at the bottom right of your screen but you had a blurred screen under you logo there, so I was like: how the hell did he do that. So maybe, more precision on what you do would be much better for us to understand what you do and follow you. Anyway Thanks for the video. I certainly learned something but i just didn’t get how you did a few things.
Have you heard of the Litchi app? If so it would be great if you could do a tutorial. There are a few vids and none of them are that great! They are all pretty generic. Please help!
Question: Do you have to record your location or save the date externally to select the correct saved mission on arriving at the same location ? In other words can you name your saved missions
As a beginner, I would like to record my local golf course. That is, I want to take off from the tee with the camera gradually tilting forward as the Mavic goes forward from the tee to record the length of the hole, then go around the green as a point of interest. I would like to do this with waypoints, tripod mode and point of interest all in one. Is this possible. Thank you in advance.
So let me get this straight. To do waypoints you have to actually do the course first manually. And then it will start over and do the waypoints.. I thought it was going to kind of be like you can draw a line and make points on the map and it will just do what you told her to do. I didn't know you had the fly the entire Waypoint first..
51 Drones Yeah they should definitely have some type of thing that you can draw on the screen I mean I have the JJ h-47 $50 selfie drone that's a lot of fun for indoors that I can literally draw something and it will follow the path it's a piece of junk compared to the mavic pro surprised they don't have something like that weird.. Tap to fly is different.. Come on DJI really? I know on the Phantom 4 Pro with waypoints you can draw them or fly the route it's up to you.. You can't put that on $1,000 drone DJI really and I can do it on my $50 drone LOL
Is there a way to adjust the height of the drone once you record your last way point before it automatically returns to the 1st way point?? I crashed my drone into a tree today because it started to return to the 1st way point before I could hit stop at a height that wasn't above the trees because I wanted lower attitude for the video. I also tried to raise the drone with the left stick when I was trying to save it and that didn't work. It would be great if the drone would go to the RTH before traveling back to that 1st way point.
If a waypoint is at a different height to the previous one, does the Mavic climb during the journey or does it get to the waypoint and then adjust the altitude? Can you get it to pause so you can take a photo from a set waypoint? I’m thinking of using it for time lapse photography for a building project... By the way, how did the highway project come out?
It climbs during the mission. You can not pause a mission once it has started. They are still working on it. I got some footage of it the other day. I plan to post an update soon!
Hi..what is safest or highest height and how far can mavic go? Im new with mavic. All these while im into parrot. All type of parrot products. I flew the mavic twice now and straight away i can feel the difference but i do not wanna go crazy with it. Any tips that i may encounter? Thanks.
Nope. But it does record drone position and if you set it to run the mission as you recorded it, it will be the same. You can also set it to simply fly the path, keeping the same forward facing position.
GREAT VIDEO Review! I bought mavic pro platinum, and i am very exited flying with it. :)) on same day i made my first video, and its not so difficult to fly but also man need some skills :))) ALL recomendation !!! Without FLY MORE COMBO pack its not worth it , its must to have. Have u tested filters from Neewer ? Greeting from Cologne
No, I lost most of my footage because my microSD card failed. Bad deal. I did get a pre and post though, that I will be posting later this Spring. They still have a few small things to finish up on the road.
cool video, gonna try soon this mod....I haveone question: 1.if you start saved wp and mavic is 10m from point 1, it will go at point 1 and start flying to point 2... Is there any option so you can pause the mavic right at that point 1 to hover and wait for event to begin(because if u are not right on the piont 1 and you start, you will lost some time while mavic reach point 1 and start flying waypoints ...sorry if I am complicated :)
zolaneger I know exactly what you mean, and I think the only way to do it is to hit the stop button, fly manually to WP1 and then go back in and start the saved mission. I'm not 100% sure on that, but I think that's the only way.
