The first thing I saw was the inimitable Al Green whom I've loved so long, as he is one of a kind. I could not believe how clear and beautiful a voice Sam Moore has. Mavis Staples's voice is so powerful on this song, and the choir is young, beautiful and energetic. All the performers together, killed it. Al Green is so worthy of being honored. The Lord blessed him with such a great gift.
What an Awesome Performance! I loved it when I watched the original recording, and I love it just as much watching it now!! God Bless the Great Reverend Al Green, Mr. Sam Moore, and Ms. Mavis Staples!!
This is my favorite performance of Take Me to the River. I love the tempo, Sam Moore, and especially Mavis Staples. That screech that Mavis gives at 1:20 is delicious.
In my opinion, yes; although the tribute to Led Zeppelin was spectacular, too . . . especially when the choir was presented at 18:10 in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ra-itTKnFaw.html
Did they really need to simplify the song to make it easier to play for this tribute? The pre-chorus (‘I wanna know…’) is supposed to be 5 1/2 bars long, with the lyric ‘take me to the river’ starting on the last two beats of that section as a pick up. It’s kind of embarrassing that they didn’t play it correctly.
