That beginning level of Max Payne still haunts me to this day… you hear someone upstairs, then cries for help, baby cries and then you see your baby and wife dead… seesh
You should also change Bullet Time and Shootdodge to different buttons, for example BT to Right Mouse Key and Shootdodge to Left Shift, even if the default has them in one button.. I cringed hard when the gameplay in this video suggests he completed the whole game using only Shootdodge (which jumps too low because of the fps) because by default you have to stop and stand still to activate BT and that can quickly get you killed in fights.
Legends will be remembered for ever and James is one of this legends his voice and face will always be associated with Max Payne one unique actor and talented man. Thank you for all the memories James.
I played through this game so many times when i first got sn Xbox. It was short enough to be played through in a sitting or two. Halo and Max Payne over and over in the early Xbox days. Great times.
I love MP1 so much. It has that unique flavor of atmosphere that I felt didn't get revisited in 2 and 3. Don't get me wrong, 2 and 3 are fantastic in their own right but 1 is a special game. I kind of prefer the characters looking so normal and average in the comic cutscenes - it kind of makes it feel a lot more believable. Or maybe it plays on the cheese factor that actors wouldn't have been able to replicate? I don't know.
I had no idea James McCaffrey died and hearing you just blurt it out was like a shot to the gut. I’m a fucking wreck now, Jesus. I love all three Max Payne games, but have a special fondness for the third one. I know it was made by Rockstar and had a drastically different style, being in hazy Brazil and not cloaked in night New York, but I it still felt like a Max Payne game and was a fitting conclusion to the series, and I just loved it. I beat that fucking thing on Old School difficulty on console. That game desperately needs a remaster. The console versions still look good but have a ton of aliasing and of course are capped at 30fps. A 4K, 60fps remaster would be incredible for a game that deserves to be remembered along with its older brothers. Rest in peace James. I thought Alan Wake 2 was a fantastic game and I’m going to miss hearing your voice.
I'd highly recommend a movie called Meskada if you've never seen it. It's a damn good movie with James McCaffrey in a great supporting role. It came out in 2012 I believe. The man could act, and the creative world definitely took a hit with his passing.
I totally get the feeling. That's how I felt when I learned tommy the OG green/white ranger committed suicide. Fucked me up. I grew up with that man. Same with max Payne. These are the moments you realize we're getting old friend.
The Max Payne trilogy got me through some terrible times and it's always really fun to see a different perspective on some of my favorite mechanics and story points. Great video as always!
replaying this now and what an amazing game this is. the atmosphere is unmatched. sometimes in the beginning i would just sit there and take in the lonely make shift bars, subways, bathrooms, its very silent hill/jacobs ladder vibes. this game was also my first ever rated M game at 8 years old when i got it at blockbuster for ps2 to rent. my uncle was the one to let me rent it, my parents would never have let me, and the beginning of this game, hearing those baby cries and also your wife, just to find them dead, killed so horribly, it stuck with me forever. remember never being able to finish this game because of the nightmare level being too scary for me. still in my top 10 games of all time.
Lets go! Another one of few games i return to every few years to replay. The style of storytelling and overall setting is great, story is solid and basic, with few ticks to make it dynamic, gameplay is a fun, but not perfect... It was all pretty much mentioned in the video to not repeat myself. Oh, and since i went to costume party as Max few years back, i love to quote it every few often, especially during a colder than a walk-in fridge winter May James Rest in Peace ❤️
Just a note about the dynamic difficulty is that it technically only works in Fugitive, I say technically cause I think it also works for the other modes but it seems all the stats are the same whether you stay alive for a long time or you keep dying a lot.
Max Payne 1 - 3 is the greatest fucking game ever. The diving mechanics were amazing and Bullet Time was even more amazing. The only downside were that the bosses were easy as hell to beat in MP 1. ❤
Max payne 3 is an absolute masterpiece, MASTERPIECE Its like how the fourth die hard movie should of played out, no department would hire a cop that does that much damage hed have to go into private security or some such industry
I do think it is good they have a decent budget for the remakes, but it is the budget of one game to remake two. I'm still absolutely pumped for it though.
Oh how I miss Max Payne in general. Growing up I was obsessed with noir films, novels, and video games and man this game was like a film noir wet dream thankfully I oen all 3 games on Xbox and can play them on me 360 and Xbox One
Only thing I will say, for the quality of your future videos, learn the names of characters properly. It got annoying correcting "Walden" to "Woden" every time you said it. Other than that, great video.
I still enjoy watching the movie with Matt did the best he could but I wasn’t a fan of the ending of the movie At least have max kill the lady responsible for all of it
Just in time, since I literally just bought all three of the games the night before because they were on sale. This is just having me be more hyped to start them.
I couldn’t agree more. One solid remake of the first 2 games and a solid remaster of the 3rd with some extra content and it would be perfection. After that no more hands on the Max Payne series. That’ll be the final icing of this cake of an amazing series.
It’s not Max Payne without McCaffreys voice, I already know I’ll be playing the originals forever, I’m just happy that Max Payne is being brought to the spotlight one last time.
I used to play this game with my dad, and those times were great, now my dad barely talks to me, maybe because I grown up, but him and I love this game
@AnushrutaMitra About same! It's especially Effed because we are hardwired to baby cries that's even how cats make us feel the same. It's harrowing! Love cats tho 😍
Love the video!! I’m so happy you’re finally covering one of my all-time favorite trilogies in gaming. Btw I LOVE the new “end of video” picture,it’s showing your OC on a bank heist with the Yakuza protagonists while being chased by the GTA 5 protagonists. And at the same time, Wei Shen is right about to Action Hijack Michael, Franklin, and Trevor lmao Your crossover pictures are so imaginative.
Man I haven’t played this game since PlayStation 2, back in like 2002 ish or close when it came out, thanks to my dad. Now fast forward I’m 28 now and as I write this comment, I’m on with what seems the last chapter of this game. The storytelling is intriguing ,very dark, and lots of gun play. It’s fun and even better since I’m old enough to understand the plot.
Knocking over the antenna wasn't intuitive to me so I cheated and watched a walkthrough on what I was supposed to do there. A big issue for me (and one of my biggest gripes about this game) is how, when I hadn't yet figured out how to take down the helicopter, I was forced to watch that same unskippable death cut scene over again each time. How far back you sometimes end up after dying will make you hate yourself for forgetting to hit F5.
Remember my uncle brought this game. This was my first mature rated game so I immediately was hesitant on playing (Iv play resident evil maybe once) . I let my little brother play while I was reading the instructions manual. The voice acting creeped me the FCK out.
