why waist the turn when you can build a battle copter, and tank instead of the copter and infantry?

It wasn't ballsy; it was calculated. Grimm Guy knew that he didn't need a comm tower or a minor income lead to pull off what he was trying to do: proliferate his units, bait Kantbei into an all-out-attack, then punish with a game-ending counterattack. What he needed was raw numbers on the frontlines. Skipping out on the T Copter let him build an extra Battlecopter, and have it and the infantry he would've otherwise wasted capping Comm Tower Island in range and ready to fight/wall on the fronts where he needed them. Since both players wound up hitting the unit cap, Grimm's refusal to cap that comm tower actually gave him an effective unit count lead. Max had 2 of his 50 slots wasted on a transport and an infantry basically on vacation in the bahamas, whereas Grimm had 50 units ready to fight and/or wall.

Also I've seen him do the exact same thing in this map. His game plan in this map seems like he doesn't care about that 10% fire power or the 1000 income and he rather have more units in the frontline

He went for fog too, so he encounters more low mmr. But he kinda struggles in high rating std rn. So that's why his mmr doesn't move too much

I started thinking something along those lines with the last grimmguy vid. like what if the secret strat is baiting people in with that reduced defense, only to punish them for overexerting.

I'd like to add to that. Sensei and Grimm tag is called Grizzled Vets. Grimm is an old and strong CO. I think you're onto something with this being his strategy. Then Sensei is copying him a bit by pretending to be senile and just schalking his opponents.

He also definitely had an advantage that his better ranged game was able to force Max to finally go in on Grimm's terms or start getting picked off. I doubt they actually planned it this far out, considering some of their other balance choices, but it's definitely interesting seeing someone with the skill to properly steer it.

So, "blood for the blood god," as Technoblade would put it? Sacrifice a few cheap units, then hit hard and recuperate those losses with just capturing as much as you can and then go on the defensive again and again.

Grimm selflessly threw wave after wave of his own infantry at them until the Max tanks reached their kill limit. Truly a maverick for the ages

Grimm isn't weak, he's just very difficult to use. If he were weak, even the best players would hit a hard plateau, considering that this is turn-based strategy.

Isn't Flak banned for being luck based (even if he's awful)?

Grimm's DtD is like a ruleset change that nobody but Grimm is used to, it turns the game upside down for those who perceive it as just a big damage low defence CO, while forgetting that they are just as vulnerable.

Grimm's battle copters are so good because, even without Grimm's defence penalty, battle copters either take chip damage from the enemy (vs. tanks, infantry, counterattacking battle copters that just got hit by the player battle copter's first strike) or they die instantly (vs. anti-air, fighters, cruisers and first strike-ing battle copters). Taking a defence penalty on a unit like that isn't much of a penalty. The defence penalty hurts tanks and infantry more, as they're normally the units that have to take hits.

I tried this in dual strike, really wanted to test out some wierd combos. it was terrible. I'm no competitive player by any stretch of the imagination, and even less so back then, but it really felt like no matter what co i swapped to it was the wrong choice

@Yuni-the-Shy-Gal In Pokémon, tiering rungs are based off of usage, with only the BL tiers, Ubers, and AG being ban-based. Get banned from a tier, get kicked to its BL, except OU and Ubers, then you go to Ubers/AG. That's what OP was suggesting happen to Adder - a use-based tier promotion despite not being too strong for Tier 4.

@@KopperNeoman ok, and the Pokémon meta is infamous for being a messy shitshow that virtually everyone and their estranged grandma hates. Also Pokémon has to rate around a thousand different mons each with dozens of possible movesets so it's only natural they'd need to simplify the tiering method. Advanced Wars has how many COs? Like, 20? No need to simplify what's already simple. False Equivalence. All moving Adder to tier 3 would do is make it so nobody uses him at all, nerfing something good (in this case by moving it up a tier) doesn't make bad stuff any better, it just makes the good thing less used.

True, I cannot stand modern comp Pokémon because OU and UU are miserable. All the cool UU Pokémon in Gens 5-6 are all RU and PU now, and anything that is too strong for those tiers is stuck in purgatory since every gen post 6 just introduces stat stick after stat stick. These stat sticks decimate balanced Pokémon, but then those Pokémon absolutely massacre the tiers below and or are stuck in purgatory where they are stuck in a tier where they have no impact. My physical tank will lose 65% HP from a neutral hitting and unboosted physical attack.

If you put your heart into the game, and are rank 20, all COs can be viable.

Grimm VS Von Bolt is not even close. Von Bolt can easily wall with 10% defense.

grimm has aruably one of the worst infantry overall (maybe even more than jess one). firepower on infantry is amazing to interrupt cap but at the same time, it doesnt serve much outside of footsoldier fight. furthermore, other unit can interrupt if needed while not optimal defense on the other hand make your capture hard to interrupt, leaving your unit with more hp to even deal more on counter attack. defense serve vs any matchup since infantry are also used as a wall which make them most likely to serve as a wall. there are no other unit that can wall as good as infantry since you won't have the economy to spam them so I don't think grimm has a strong capture phase. sturm infantry which has a 120/80 has a better capture phase even if you remove the perfect move

Boot Record is how many times a match has ended because a player has Timed out. I have over 100 Boots because I have a Love/Hate relationship with AWBW where I start 25 games and I think I can complete them all, only to end up completing 10 and getting kicked off from 15. The Boot Record is Permanent and while there is no Permanent Punishment for having so many boots, it does temporarily lock you to only playing up to 5 games at a time. The "Boot Record" is a counter for how many games you have lost from being timed out on your turn (Which is 7 Days in the Global League). It's more of a shame counter than a Badge of honor.

which is quite significant bc since grimm doesn't need it as much, it also meant that he can just pressure the enemy and not waste amount of funds trying to get a b copter into a comm tower like this map

I feel like there's 2 things going on here. One is that to do what Grimm Guy does, you have to have really clean mechanics. Two is that you're preying on a better understanding of the "new rules of the game" that you're imposing. Grimm is so double edged that more than conferring an advantage, he changes the way that you have to approach him when playing against a good Grimm player. In this case, Kantbei's biggest advantage with Max is the presence of his COP. Once he has it, his ability to bully Grimm out goes through the roof. However, Kantbei played too passively. Grimm Guy displayed excellent mechanics and steered Kantbei away from trades of vehicles until pretty late. Thing is, that's exactly what Kantbei had to force and he didn't even try that hard to do so. This is probably because against other COs, playing safe isn't a bad thing. With Max vs Grimm specifically, forcing early trades completely changes the dynamics in your favor to a great degree. By letting the forces build up, Max's movement buff ceased to really mean anything which turned it into a game where the player with the better mechanics won and that was Grimm Guy. So in order to win, Grimm Guy needed both cleaner mechanics and an understanding of how his opponent should play against Grimm so he could steer them away from that direction. Kantbei had good mechanics but not quite as good and more importantly didn't understand what winning against Grimm would look like which caused him to squander his CO advantage.
