Max Weber's contribution of "Types of Authority" is a typology about how authority presents itself in different types of societies. Tradtional Authority, Charismatic Leadership and Rational-Legal Authority are explored.
I can only imagine being in college or grad school with utube. I remember getting just stuck in philosophy and it taking more than one night to understand wtf the author was trying to (albeit poorly) communicate. This was only circa 2000!
I am currently struggling with writing a piece on Weber for my graduate studies. Many thanks for this video; very helpful for understanding his concepts and insightful for modern experience.
I don't think Weber mentioned election in his original essay on the three types of authority. On contrary, he believed an unelected bureaucracy was the purest form of rational-legal authority. The bureaucracy is based on competency and established rules but not necessarily elections.
