So much talent in this band, it's ridiculous. Pye's lyrics, Kim's riffs and vocals, to Wilk's boards. Just awesome.

No kidding! He hosts or has hosted a radio show in Toronto for years and no surprise is good friends with Alex and Geddy from RUSH. I didn't realize he was so good on guitar, and this song is so well crafted, my bad for figuring this out after all of this time!

Oh my god this brings back some memories. Max Webster were the very first rock band I saw live. They supported Rush back in 1979 during a UK tour. I was 16 at the time and had discovered metal/rock/prog etc only a couple of years previously. At the time I wasn't too sure of MW and was looking forward to hearing Rush more than anything. I liked MW and still do but I can never say I loved their music.

COMPLETELY AGREED!!!!! Shit; not only do the members of Rush (the tourm8 buddies of Max Webster) know Kim's talent. So does IAN THOMAS (Kim actually contributed 2 Ian's 1975 hit "Liars"). Though I'm from Detroit, MI (a stone's throw away from Windsor), I pledge my musical allegiance 2 CANADA (Ian Thomas & Kim Mitchell primarily lead the way).

Kim comes from my home town. In fact, before he moved away to Toronto, he lived in the same neighbourhood that one of my uncles still lives in. My parents bought a house in that neighbourhood although we didn't move in until quite some time after Kim had moved away. About 20 years ago, I met Paul Kersey, one of the former drummers for Max Webster. I met him at one of my other uncles around Christmastime. Nice guy, although he made it plain that he didn't like Kim much.

I was 18 when I saw this on TOTP (poor old Peter Powell, nobody told him Max Webster wasn't the band leader! - he'd have probably also asked Roger Waters "by the way, which one's pink?")...I was that impressed, I tried to track down the album but there were distribution problems with the record company and for a while nobody could buy it anywhere in the UK...as a result the ticket sales for gigs were down and the execs pulled the plug on further tours. Criminal....a band as good as this should have been massive! I did get to see them live, a smallish venue, too, the Marquee in Wardour St, London. I stood right at the front about 3 feet from Kim and, as a fledgling guitarist, stood there in awe (well who wouldn't!?). God I miss those days.... Thankfully, even 40 years on I'm still a pro gigging guitarist - thanks guys for the inspiration! p.s. Beyond the Moon from Mutiny is probably one of the best rock songs ever written....musically, that is, the lyrics are nuts!
@tonystfa

As a Canuck I luckily saw Max many times - I only got to the Marquee once in my life (Terra Nova - Manfred Mann survivors) - the two together would have been overwhelming - so glad you got to see them - we will never see their like again - such a great band that never got what they deserved.

They were part of the New Wave movement and were very talented and creative. Would have been interesting to see where they would have gone had they stayed together. Kim Mitchell's solo career was very commercialized in comparison. Max Webster was on the path to becoming something great.

Pretty cool you can clearly hear like the 'inception' of patio lanterns in this tune, the clean comping bit after paradise skies I mean like the inspiration of the riff, if you know what I mean.. That clean comping thing Kim does in a lot of his tunes, lager and ale, 'Soda,' Patio, etc... Its a very unique aspect of his playing that makes Kim...Kim. People fail to realise the skil involved in controlling that kind of sound, in a fairly controlled environment, like a prog rock band. Guy never fails to inspire me, he is still rocking, he only seems to get better, and his band is so awesome. He deserves to get a lot more accolades than he does, and he seems to be cool with that, its all hollywierd BS anyways, but he is just so great, a real Canadian gem
